OK, So Frontier Really, Really, Doesn't Want Me To Mine For A Fleet Carrier...

Where do you do asteroid mining? Do you have point defence system? What kind of shields? Let's.. have a look about this.
Yes, I have point defense, thank you. Full size 6 shields, with boosters. And, I mine in uninhabited systems a lot. Run from the first ships encountered, of course, run some more before mining.

Last night, I used a Krait 2 for materials mining. No refinery. Single mining laser. Had a fighter bay. Killed the NPC Krait 2 of the first encounter, collected his parts.

It took a long time to gather materials. Gave up when my trigger finger did.

Ah, that sounds very interesting. I assume moderate thermal resistance and top boost speed at around 560m/s. How is that powerplant? Uninhabited systems can be dangerous, but there are so many of them. I'm also interested in estimates of arrival time.

Well, It's not for everyone.... buuuutttttt.... An Annie, Good FSD range, Jet cone boost, and some time spent finding my own rings at 500LY away has made mining a quieter prospect now. I'm still hunting for a double painite ring but I've got a few that have multiple hotspots, so no penalty for leaving and coming back or switching spots. I have to say that cores do seem 'more rare' these days though. It's not far enough to hurt too bad on FSD damage due to boost but far enough for no pirates.

I'm not doing well at saving though. Been hovering at about 1B for weeks because there is always another shiny ship I could try out or those bleep-ing expensive 7/8A modules to buy.

It's got enough shield / pew-pew power to kill stuff that interdicts me once I get close to home.

On a completely different note, I'd like to see a core mining SLF. Have a larger ship, like a corvette or whatever collecting the fragments, while blowing up the asteroid and surface mining in the SLF.

The spot I usually use has dried up. The selling cost halved and the ring doesn't have much left in it. But I just put that down to other players mining the same spot. I'm too lazy to find another one, or travel far to sell my opals, so I've resorted to combat.

Hopefully those fleet carriers won't be too expensive.

Armored to G5 is the PP. They arrived after I had cleared the initial drop area, and I had had a clear scope for five minutes. They dropped out of jump, and commenced their raid.

First, I've noticed that the number of rocks with cores have dwindled. Former pristine spots in and around Colonia are not yielding what they were.

So, I switched my loadout for some weapons, and extra defense. Good call.

Because, I'm getting mobbed by groups of 3-4 engineered NPC's, even when there is allied security around.

3 engineered Eagles can put a hurt on you. Last bunch I shot down, but not after taking damage, and losing cargo. Only went down to 93% hull, but I lost enough to call it a day.

Yes, I am armored, shielded, armed, and engineered, thank you very much. In a Python. Killed all three of my last assailants. Didn't matter. There was enough module damage to make continuing risky. Module sniping.

Two or three will shoot, while the other makes with the hatchbreakers. My point defense shot down some of them. Never go anywhere without point defense.

I think Frontier might be trying to turn off the money faucet, before December. If I mine for materials only, it gets the stuff, but makes no money.

Mission running now seems to be the way to play. An armed trader stands a better chance than a mining ship. Or, a combat Krait 2, with fighter. I have one now, and it's finally fully engineered. I was mining, because the engineering drained money and materials.

Any bets on if this is on purpose?
You get attacked by npcs?

Ive been shield free for almost 2 billion credits without a single rebuy and only got shot at once.

Normally I don't have anything in cargo except limpets. They scan me, complain, and leave.

Occasionally one will demand 3 tons of limpets or whatever. Take em bro. Ive literally got 350 of them and only normally need 300.

One time the npc just went balls to the wall right away. Cutter boosted till the thing gave up and low waked out.

On yet another side note. The trade missions, I wish they marked pickup and dropoff stations and systems differently. I sign up for trade missions and come back to pick up the goods later and it gets confusing because the UI doesn't help or distinguish them.

I have been using my Krait 2 to attack the first encounter ships at the ring sites. Then, I collect the parts. Mining with a fighter has more utility than I thought...

OK, my Python had another gun added. It survived my Painite Paradise Ring. The sonar is almost useless, so I've removed the abrasion blaster, and reverted back to straight surface mining. Quite refreshing. Got my materials, so I can quit, for now. Back to mission running.

Yeah painite mining. The time with nothing to show for it doesn't exist there so whatever you experience won't be doubling the pain.

You can also put in a ticket to lower your combat rank. Elite npc's show up only at some distant rank im not at.

The ship also matters.. not considering your experience with 3 small ships.. i always found the python attracted ships that were always on the not possible end.. eg, in a cutter or type 10, or even a krait, there's usually a chance you're going to win.. the python i remember nearly 100% calling it from being outmatched.
