Still not getting it are you? Price is based on the market - if they tried to sell a FOUR YEAR OLD game for more, it wouldn't sell anywhere near as many copies, that's not "exemplary" on the part of FDev being nice to us, that's just the reality of the gaming market, FDev get no credit and deserve no Kudos for it. Basic marketing strategy.
People will drop £8 for a game and accept the loss if they don't like it - but that's still irrelevant to the fact that the BASE GAME is still being sold as a SEPARATE ENTITY when the reality of playing it is the BASE GAME and HORIZONS are NOT SEPARATE as far as the NPC's and environment are concerned.
To put it another way ALL NPC'S "own" Horizons -and the ENGINEERED assets that come with it - while some human players do not. It's imbalanced. It's wrong, and what my father would have called "sharp business practise" (aka crooked).
Also the whole "Frontier needs money to dev the game etc etc" that arguement got destroyed years ago when they released planet coaster and JPW after that - it ALL goes into the SAME POT OF MONEY. Funds from ED sales are not allocated to JUST ED, that's just ridiculously naive.

I agree with the OP, they really need to stop offering the non horizons version of the game. So many design decisions are made because they have to deal with the fact there are two versions of the game, which harms it.
Because you either design a game mechanic for non horizons thus limiting its potential or you design it with horizons and thus locking out a section of the player base. Its actually a really bad idea.
They should just combine horizons into the model fully, raise the price if the game say 5 bucks and there you go.

If people wish to remain disadvantaged over the price of a cup of tea and slice of cake I say let them.
If people dont wish to buy dlc for a game that is on them. It doesn't hurt anyone having the base game available for sale.

What I am getting at is this JUST SELL THE DELUXE VERSION.....Or offer BASIC lite eng with the Base game so cmdrs can get a taste of it.. The biggest complant I get is that they feel cheated that for 30 bucks they only get a quarter of the game and for another 30 bucks (after they already bought the game thinking the DLC is just for goodies and endgame stuff tho...it kinda is what it is actually..humm)to get the whole game....why not just drop the base game and just offer elite as the deluxe version..minus the paint ofcourse..
I am not saying give anything away...just its kinda a bait and switch a tad...
Full disclosure I payed 60 bucks for this game...(Best god dam 60 bucks I have ever spent) the only reason is I want every CMDR to experience all of elite. Hence why I used my own money (with no intention of ever getting anything back mind you) to pay for the DLC so Cmdrs can really enjoy elite. regardless if they play with me or not.. I love this game that much...Its like donating but...not

As someone who paid the full $60 price tag for Horizons when it initially launched, I feel that I was given far more than my money's worth. Hundreds of hours spent throughout Horizons and enjoying just about all of the features it introduced (although I do wish that the initial release of said features had gone better). There is not much of a reason someone can't fork over $30 for Horizons... If you like the base gameplay of Elite enough to want all of what Horizons offers, then it's totally worth it. Even more so when Horizons is almost always on any active Steam sale. Currently $7.19 with the Winter sale. That's dirt cheap.

I think people have to talk about this without the sale price. Even if the price was $15 to 30 for just the Elite Dangerous without Horizon. Not everyone can afford both parts of the game at the time. I have to rep you CMDR Plexus Ironrot I am glad you are willing to shell out your own cash for people who might not be able to buy the full game. I would have done the same thing if I had the money. But being on disability I don't get much money.
I also understand Buying the game in parts because you can't afford the whole game. Like Skyrim, you can watch all the youtube videos and you still can't get a feel of the game. You buy part of the game to try to get a feel for it If you like it you save up in a month or two and buy the other DLC. If you don't like it you only paid a Fraction of the game.

Woopie do. on the 60 bucks. I paid $300 in Kickstarter so I was in the DDF and Private group. Then I paid for 2 other Elite Dangerous games later. So I can deal with 3 locations. One for exploration another for combat while another in Trading. But I don't have many other games. Elite was a game I love for 30+ years.

Whilst I agree that now Frontier shouldn't sell the base game without Horizons included, I can see issues for those that have so far just bought the base game and they haven't bought Horizons. How do they then upgrade to Horizons?
If they still offered Horizons to buy, for those that have only bought just the base game, I can see some people in the future buying both the game which includes Horizons and the separate Horizons DLC because they want it all and they got confused when purchasing. Yes, it does happen sadly!
Why people, who still play the game, have not bought Horizons I just don't know as horizons brings so much to the game even if you're not interested in engineering.

Frontier discontinued Mac support. After 3.3. So they don't have any reason not to merge both games.
Best idea for frontier is to send a sale by player email to buy horizon Or make Elite Dangerous Free and Horizon as a paid upgrade.

I think it is time for FD to roll Horizons into the base game. Having seen the state of combat zones since the last patch i have no idea how someone in a non-engineered ship is expected to kill anything there while staying alive except for the odd small ship.
If engineers are now pretty much a requirement to partake in non-Horizons content then at least engineers should be rolled into the base game even if planetary landings are not (but then there needs to be ways to get those mats for non-horizons owners)
