On empty and in a system you cant refuel from

Badger's right - log out and wait until someone here tells you they're there with a fuel transfer module.

I like how you start gasping for breath at 30 seconds left. They need to make the cockpit start to grey out when that starts to happen. Makes it more realistic! =D I just wish I hadn't lost all those rares I was hauling =/

Oh god D:

Lost all power and have less than 3 minutes of oxygen. Guess this will teach me to pay more attention to fuel and where the stations are! Thanks for the replies! See you on the flip side!

Log out.
There is a very slight chance someone might be fast enough to get to your system, wing up and refuel you if you drop a beacon. Unless you've already punched the suicide button there's a chance you might be OK.

This happens every time!

sad we lost another one to this problem, I dont think 3 minutes is going to cut it.

To anyone reading this, the very instant you realize you are not going to make the next jump, come out of SC, throttle to zero, turn off thrusters, log out immediately and post to fuelrats.org
Once youve posted to the thread, someone will friend you in game, tell them what system you are in privately, theyll head out and you can wing up from there.

We need every second we can get sometimes, I lost someone earlier today due to time limits.
Time really is precious on these missions.

I did take the opportunity to upgrade my FSD to A class!

You can really gobble fuel with one of those. How about upgrading your fuel tank or scoop?

When I'm running rares I do it in my Asp so I can go station-to-station without refuelling; but it's tight. If you make one jump wrong you may wind up trying to breathe vaccum.

Was just thinking of the classic elite where a pod would eject and you could pick up the pilot and sell as a slave. Would be cool to add a stasis option to life support. If you eject you could be scooped up and dropped at a station. This would retain all you bounties and maybe some other stuff.

That would be cool. Or maybe instead of self destructing, you just die and everything is left there.... ship and cargo! =D

I have a C2 class fuel tank.

Just in case you don't know, you can now use an internal compartment to fit an extra fuel tank. This'll give you more range before needing to scoop - which could be the extra jump you need to get to a scoopable star.

Since you mentioned being somewhere you can't refuel from, I'm assuming one of your internal compartments already has a fuel scoop, which is pretty much required if you want to make long trips through space with no stations.

Of course, all these come at the expense of less cargo space - so it's up to you on risk/reward. I learnt myself that you need to plan your jump routes - with no fuel scoop, plan for stations along the route, preferably stopping one station at least before your fuel runs out and perhaps looking out for alternative systems nearby with a fuelling station that is within one jump. If you have a fuel scoop, only O, B, A, F, G, K and M spectral class stars are scoopable, so you have to plan your route looking out for those. These are based on the actual main-sequence stars using the classification NASA uses... a helpful mnemonic to remember them is 'Oh Be A Fine Girl, Kiss Me'.

Invest in a better life support, just in case.. ;) Not only that, Class Ds are lighter than Es. Got the cash? Get a A.

Fly brave into the dark, commander, soon you will be a part of the universe and we will all fly together again!
