Only able to play demo

Well, I have a legitimate copy, bought on Steam & it has the option to show the key on there between launch and view downloadable content, I'd say this is most certainly an issue with whatever "legitimate" seller you got the key off of.
You realize all those keys they sell are legitimate right? They don't just give "fake" keys.

It's pretty much Frontiers problem since they want to use their own launcher that you need to connect with Steam instead of just having the whole thing work through Steam.
Frontier always had their own launcher since the game was in Early Access/Kickstarter. The Game wasn´t even on Steam, when i bought my first Copy (3100+ hours played). I have bought my second copy on Steam and it also had the launcher from the beginning. Everything worked as i told you. I can see my Game Keys, i could redeem them on Frontierstore.net the only diffrence between your Copy and mine is, i bought them from Frontier or Steam directly.
You can do the math sherlock.

What does any of that have to do with the keys being "illegitimate". I own the game. It's in my library. It's just Frontier's incompetence to make it an easy process. They don't need their own proprietary launcher and activation system for the game. Just use Steam.

Ok, how do you think the sellers on there are able to sell the keys so cheap? There is a reason many developers have stated that illegally obtained keys are being sold on that site. A lot (not all) of these keys are illegitimate, obtained illegally (there have been some counts of "youtubers" obtaining keys for free from the developer then selling them on there), bought with stolen credit card details, or bought & then charged back once the seller has obtained the key.

That doesn't make the key illegitimate. If it didn't work, then it's illegitimate.

Also, you didn't pay Frontier a penny for the game, it's likely the seller on G2A didn't either.

Get your money back from G2A, buy it on steam & it will work fine.

1. You need the key from steam to verify your copy at frontier.
2. Steam doesn't show you the game key.

Let's say you bought any other game on steam and you need the key to redeem it on any other games launcher like many other MMO's require you to do so. Who do you think should give you the keys? Exactly... Steam should give you the Keys you need. Contact Steam support. Or just write a ticket to Frontier Support. These guys are a lot smarter than i am. Maybe they can help you.
I told you all i know. I´m out and ill play Elite now.
Hope you find a solution. Good day. Fly Safe o7

It didn't, hence why you can't play.

This is all I see.
Check on the right hand side of the steam window, under links. On my copy at least, there's an entry there for CD key too. If it's not there, I'd suggest contacting Frontier directly. They can be a bit slow responding to complaints on the forum.

I already made a ticket, almost 2 days ago.

I'm having the same exact problem and I've tried literally everything. Ive wiped and reinstalled, everything. Demo is my only option.
And the that's about "illegitimate Keys" if Steam accepted it and added it to your game library. That would be a massive liability issue for Valve for approving that..

Yeah that's Not true at all. You think a multiple billion company like valve would approve bogus game keys and allow you to add the game to your library?

Hmm, yup Frontier did not see a penny of that sale, G2A got 10% the seller got the rest. As for bogus keys, as I said, it's not like sellers on G2A haven't been caught doing it before... Ubisoft has caught them, and deactivated keys, EA has caught them and deactivated keys. Those two stores have both allowed keys to be activated as legitimate & then subsequently revoked them. A quick search on steam also reveals similar stories about G2A & other key resellers markets... So yes, definitely not true...

Not to mention all the times where the sellers then request the key revocation themselves even if they are legit.

Oh, and actually yes, a multimillion dollar company like valve will allow a bogus key to be iadded to your steam account if it looks legit, right up to the point where it isn't, be this Years, months, days or even mere minutes down the line...

You realize that if a key is fraudulent the game is taken out of your library? That's never happened to me. Many people use the Steam store and pay Argentinian prices and buy in bulk, they then sell them to people all over the world. Not every seller is a criminal. I always buy from sellers with 99% satisfaction. You have no clue what you are on about.

redacted, there is no point in rising to that last bit, you are on your own.

This is still going on? You guys realize this debate is not going to solve the problem?
You need the key to redeem the game on frontierstore.net. Try steam support or wait for the fdev supports response. Things may have changed and if so these two are your only options.
All I can say is how it worked for me and my two copy's of the game. The first copy I got via frontier store was the easiest to redeem. The second on steam took a few additional steps that being
1. Get the keys from steam
2. Create a frontier store account
3. Redeem the keys at frontier store
If what worked for thousands of players on steam somehow doesn't work for you there are two possibilities
1. Something is wrong with steam or frontier store
In that case contact the support of one or even better both of the above.

2. the validation process has changed and nobody knows about it. In that case contact the steam and/or frontier support.

If they tell you there is nothing they can do because you bought the game via a third party reseller, then you know, why so many people don't like buying from key resellers like g2a. And in that case, good luck with g2a support.

Bro I work in IT in Seattle, and two of my best friends work for Valve. Tech companies spend unbelievable amounts of money on massive legal departments and outside council just to cover their ass from multi million dollar intellectual property lawsuits. They would never allow fraudulent keys into your steam game library so easily. We are trying to fix a steam key bug and that isn't the reason why it's happening. Appreciate you trying to contribute but it isn't the end of the world to be wrong once in the while man
