Only you, FdEv, only you...

And you really think "Everyone must have this mod" is balance in PvP?

Weird.
That was one of the arguments that were made against Drag Munition changes ### "everyone would be forced to have it to be competitive in pvp"
I still think it would be nice change to combat instead of FA-Off perma boost dance that is the meta.

Well, DD5 just happens to be the meta. That really isn't a problem in this particular case since we are talking about drives, and speed is a crucial factor (and fun, at the same time) in PvP.

And the playing field is level, as long as everyone has access to the DD5 mod. It's certainly much more balanced than having to use a handicapped lower grade mod after a rebuy because you forgot to do some mind numbingly boring busywork to keep your material storage filled to the rim.

The two cases are not even remotely similar.
Every single ship has an engine, but not all of them carry weapons on which you could put the drag experimental.

You can use the "dirty drives" upgrade on your engines if speed is what you want (not permaboost, that's mainly a distributor dependent thing), like for PvP. Or "clean drives", if you want to run super cool (that's largely irrelevant in PvP).

But you cannot use the "drag munitions" effect on a PA+rail loadout, for instance. And what's worse, the "drag munitions" experimental can be applied to weapons like seekers/packhounds and gimballed frags, which are pretty much uncounterable and don't even require any kind of skill to use.

That's why you can say that "the drag munitions buff forces everyone to use frags/missiles to remain competitive". But what about the dirty drives? Would you complain "the dirty drive mod forces me to use engines on my ship", or what?

Yea, this makes every other mod useless in our frame of reference (pvp)
When you saw last time someone in pvp with reinforced drives?

And that means you will have to "sacrifice" a slot to a weapon that can take the new special effect. Again, breaking the meta.

But, i'll stop here - this one thread is not about breaking the meta in ED

And how is it a problem?

Almost every single module has one or two meta mods. Drag (the unbuffed version) is already one of them for fragment cannons and seekers/packs. Superpen and feedback for rails. Corrosive for multis, force shell for cannons, etc.

... could have seriiously have had the idea of locking down an Engineer needed to up your drives to the max while simultaneously trying to make the game more newb friendly.

Only you.
The newbs!!! Won't someone please think of the newbs!!!

It’s a good effort OP, but while you’ve aced the ‘utterly preposterous rationale’ part of your post, it’s still related to something that actually happened.

To be top of the pile, you’ll need an utterly preposterous rationale and it to be about something that was only ever in your own head anyway.

I give you 4/7. A good attempt but must try harder.

Palin is dead. He will not be replaced. We will never get DD5 ever again outside of Colonia. Everything that happened so far is pointing at this. There can be no doubt about it.
Unless you already had Palin's DDT blueprint pinned...

Tip: In the bubble, Elvira and Felicity can apply the experimental effects at DDT1 ;)

So what I'm hearing is, these mods are way too easy to get, and should be made much more difficult to obtain so they actually fit in their actual role as veteran-player mods.

Maybe mat requirements need to be ramped up, and you lose them on ship destruction. Sounds like a good place to start.

I kind of think they should just be WAY less powerful, rather than "Super hard/rare"

Hard to get, or rare, tends to either be a bit annoying, or just give a select group of players some huge advantage and you probly want to allow most players to see all of the game.

Should have been sidegrades from the start, ways to alter your ship, not definitive upgrades. Madness.
