I didn't see the original title of the thread, and there have been a couple edits to the OP for content, but it pretty clearly states that this is not an indictment of all of Open but rather it's a data point for consideration. Not sure how much of a fallacy a data point can be, especially when no major conclusions were directly drawn from it.

The guy has clearly admitted to needing to get better in this aspect of the game. And his story is a good one for anyone who doesn't have a lot of experience in Open - be prepared because it CAN happen.

Open is an a-hole magnet; any system popular with actual players will be full of a-holes in Open.

My experience has been quite the opposite. Ganked once in my 1300 hours of play time.

Usually the solid squares bother me way more than any of the hollow ones.

All this talk of Open being cuddly and not full of idiots I decided to give it a whirl.
I'm in A rated Corvette, 7A shield + 5 A shield boosters. No cargo.
Went to Shinrata, immediately interdicted. No comms. Tried running. 4 more ships jump in, open fire. Insta death.
FSD sniped before it even cooled down.

Yeah don't believe the hype.

Just a quick edit - internet connectivity was crap. Ships jumping around all over the place so there was no way to target.
Third edit - some people seem to think the post implies all of open - that was not my intention hence the title has been altered.

If instant death in an A rated vett you need to work on your engineering a bit.

Poor experience? Nah... never been killed in Open. But idiots always TRY to kill me for no reason so I don't bother with that game mode except for Beta.

The original OP was an indictment of Open. Everyone knows you can be attacked at Founders, OP used that to make a far larger claim.

I was ganked once. Well, sort of. I was at a thargoid site, driving around in my SRV but hadn't dismissed my ship. Someone strafed my landed, unoccupied, unshielded AspX. Then they hovered there and shot it till it exploded. I was just really perplexed. I didn't have a bounty, they clearly weren't showing off any skills, more the opposite since they had to sit still to shoot an unmoving target (lol) and they didn't even inconvenience me since it meant I didn't have to fly back to the bubble afterwards! The rebuy on my explorer AspX? Ha.

I can understand how that steers people away from Open, but I've met too many decent, non-drooling cmdrs to put any weight to it. It's not like I'm forced to fly the Cutter in Open when I don't want to.

There's only a few areas of the game where this type of stuff is common. This is definitely one of them.
