Open play trolls

We've seen this here on the forums. Kill folks without saying a word, the ask for "at least a little role play". Provide them with some role play, it's never good enough, not sanctioned, your own invalid invention, etc.

This subset of players are determined to redefine being pathetic as attaining virtue it seems.

I still think it's funny to say something pithy when blowing up another player. Like "Oops! I didn't mean for that last shot to kill you!" or "Candy Gram for CMDR So & So!"

If they ignore me or respond rudely, at least I can rest easy in the knowledge that I tried.

Agreed it's the first thing I think when I read the anti-open mode conspiracies.

With no information about the nature of the messages it's useless data - could just have been "lol" and still satisfied the requirement of sending a message as you kill someone.

Heading dangerously into the territory where nobody is allowed to express anything about a negative experience without being labelled as a wannabe-victim and dismissed. It's an extremely nasty place to end up but you can see why some would like that.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. I think the issue is with people just generally looking to be the victim in any and all circumstances.

Again though, the same issue applies to both extremes. Attention seekers are not bound by arbitrary lines drawn in the sand, other than to point out how others have drawn their lines 'wrong'.

Do you really not see the hypocrisy of your comments?

We need goose. Where's goose at?

Goose, or Goose's wife?

;)

The outcome is the same regardless no? I tried sending messages as I killed people for a test to see if the opinion of those killed change... safe to to say it made them even more angry than sending nothing.

The outcome isn't always the same. If someone interdicts me while showing me an in-game reason in comms, I don't block them.

I'd tell you to feel free to pre-preemptively put me on your block list, but I think any experienced player who uses their blocklist like you say doesn't really play in Open in the first place, so moot point.

I'm the opposite, if someone sends me some cringy inane roleplay message about inderdicting me because of Article 356 (a) (b) (n) Amended 2948 of whichever bull**** made up rulebook they invented, they get a place on my blocklist.

Interdict me with no message and the gloves come off, it's fightin' time, baby.

I'll put the lot of you on my block list, Just for funsies.

I think it's pretty spot on. Block a few unruly types that don't play the way you like, have a happier play experience. Works well for both I'd say, good compromise solution.

As far as I'm concerned, there is only one legitimate use of the blocklist, and that's if someone is genuinely harassing you in chat with abusive language. When it comes to gameplay reasons, I think it's being exploited. And like I said, River, nobody using it like that is going to be spending much time in Open anyhow, so no loss.

Apart from those who do like Hellakitty just said he did, but of course that's fine and different.

Block list is great. Can't play with others? Not a problem anymore.

To be fair in that respect I do the same, but if someone else wants to fair play to them for solving their problem their own way. I'd rather have that than complaints from either extreme.

For clarification, I don't actually block anyone for that kinda stuff. Some of it is so cringy I find it amusingly irritating, though.

The only people who get blocked are the genuinely nasty pieces of work. And I can usually tell when someone's just roleplaying being a nasty piece of work, as opposed to being a genuine one.

Here's a video of an innocent player just doing his thing when set upon by a wing of evil gankers. In this video, the good guy wins big:

It's nice when evil is vanguished.
