General Open: Why you should play or not play.

Here is the US. It happens every other week, and it appears that these are nornal vapes, but you never know..
Which country was that? We have had (in the UK) only one 'serious' situation, a few years ago, where a teenager was affected very seriously by his vape, reckoned to be a major allergic reaction to one of the ingredients, but none since that I have heard about.
There are recorded cases of folk vaping THC loaded mixes causing major damage though...

Thanks... In the (UK) news recently it was mentioned that vaping had been banned in 3 states recently, no doubt more to follow.

Seems sensible.
At least tobacco industry was under heavy scrutiny and quite controlled.
With vaping - well, God knows what chemicals you are ingesting.

I'd rather get back on smoking than starting to vape.

I've been playing in open longer than you have been out of nappies, I follow advice when it's good.....let's see some good advice!

I'm sorry how big is your ego?

Look darling. I don't give one single iota how long you think youve been playing.

Sorry, but you gotta buck up your attitude. Longer than I been in nappies xD Please. Goddamn child.

Heres some advice for ya, and this is gold. Don't think yoursef better than others.

Literally NOONE likes people who are that self absorbed.

Hey who started the ego stuff thinking you can tell people how the game should be played and then insulting them when they disagreed, I see you can't take a bit of ribbing back, no surprise there, maybe the forum game isn't your strength!

If FDev wants to make things equal between modes then the most sensible way of going about it is to tie them together in a way that is'nt the BGS.

The BGS is pretty much the only thing connecting disparate instances; it's nearly the only real persistence we have.

Could, and should be more involved, but that would ultimately be an augment to the BGS.

I mean, the problem there is "Jameson". That's like taking a trip to Syria and saying how horrible the entirety of Planet Earth is. Most of the planet isn't an active warzone. :p

Well, with more than forty major active conflicts ongoing at any given time, I'd forgive them for that assumption.

The situation in Elite: Dangerous' Open mode is really quite mild compared to reality...usually only a handful of overtly hostile areas, it's just that everyone wants to volunteer for aid work for some reason.

I've ventured into Open, and what I found was not an abandoned wasteland, nor a ganker-fest, nor some weird in-between.
What I found were ships skipping across the backdrop of space, and my own ship being rubber-banded out of stations where I'd requested landing and even touched down, only to be retracted into space to have repeat that landing, all the while my clock is ticking down to complete my landing before I was loitering and used for target practice by the station.

I promptly abandoned Open, never to return.

But if that's how you like to play, feel free. I left a spot for you.

Ive moved to open recently, and haven't had that much of a problem. Ive been interdicted a few times in engineer's systems, Shinrarta and the CG, but I sort of expect that.

The only thing I don't like are the (imho) morons, who think it's s laugh to consistently ram you outside a station so they die and you get a fine. Block time for them.

They aren't morons, they are the ultimate PvPers, and what they do is perfectly legal. Anyway, they don't do it all the time, sometimes they are at the starter systems showing all those newbies just how big and tough they are lol

Yes the proceeding comment was made in jest. If it upset you then there is a good chance it hit close to home - too bad so sad :D

Read my signature aha, I must admit nicotine deprevation is not aiding things lol.

The point of this is to make it clear that open has unrestricted PvP because many of us are bored to the hilt with reading the posts. As I said on another post, the blur is not all that clear, and mostly gets ignored when people flit through the menus. It's just hear to make that clearer before people feel the need to click on a mode that is going to cause issues for them. Rather than two short scentences, it's a fully detailed post that outlines the positives and negatives and hopefully provides cmdrs with a decent enough clue on what it is.

Also, as I say, I'm so bored with the same faces complaining ad infinitum about open when most of them don't even play in it, and the rest that do seem to be some weird kind of masochist that both wants to get hurt, enjoy that immediatley, then seek sympathy from people on the forums for a secondary hit. It just gets on my nerves after the thirty milliionth time.

I try to go out of my way to help this community when they have questions I can answer. It gets made increasingly difficult when a portion of those exist seemingly just to cause drama.

And cheers, means a lot. One of the hardest things I've ever done xD

You can do it. You are strong enough to beat that vice.

My father managed to do it, long ago. He used to smoke two packs every day, then, from one day to the next, he stopped entirely (of course, a shadow on an x-ray of his lungs helped a bit).

He lived almost forty years without that, in prime health. :)

Plus, think of all the money you're saving... ;)

As to the topic: there is no refuting your logic.

My problem with Open is the stuttering when there are one or more CMDRs in the instance. More often than not, its really bad stuttering (or rubberbanding?).

I must have a very good internet connection because everything works smooth as glass when I don't see other CMDRs. I played Solo from before Beta-1 to a little over 9 months ago when I decided to go back to Open. I live on the fringe most the time so I don't see many people ships. Now that I've started mining Painite, I have to go to stations I rarely visit or never been to for the good prices and sometimes there will be 3 or more CMDRs there and I have to manually land due to the terrible stuttering. But, I persevere and keep playing open especially when I mine because I've found miners are fun and peaceful people to burn rocks with. Have a nice day Commanders.
