Greetings! I am CMDR Chocolatier of the Hull Seals;
There will be many players planning their actions with the Alpha & Beta fast approaching later this year. And with that, the Hull Seals and I are seeking your help in understanding the survivability of ships while inside the cone of a White Dwarf or Neutron star. During the Alpha (Phase 4) and possible Beta for Odyssey, Frontier will do much the same as they did with the Fleet Carrier Beta; that is make a duplicate account for all players in the game. Frontier has confirmed this during their live stream on March 25th. This will enable all players within the Alpha (in Phase 4) and Beta to do as they see fit with no transfer of action back into their main account.
This provides you and us, the Hull Seals, an opportunity to help the community. By purposefully crashing our ships and recording some basic information we will further understand what ships have better odds than others inside these cones. We simply ask you crash whatever ship you have into any White Dwarf or Neutron star and submit the result on our website (link on banner below).
We're looking for a worse-case-scenario, which means complete loss of maneuverability of your ship and a cool-down timer of 30 seconds. We are providing some information below to help assist you in understanding what will happen when you enter a cone in that situation.
Some things to keep in mind:
If you have any further questions, please leave them below or visit The Hull Seals Contact page, which will give access into our Internet Relay Chat (IRC), so we may answer them. A post regarding the current results as well as all testing data is being linked here.
Thanks for your consideration to help!

Currently, we have only 20 instances of ships recorded from rescues during the past 5 months. I will be concentrating on these during the experiment with all other ships half selected and half random for the experiment. These recorded ships include:

Some things to keep in mind:
- Your canopy will blow anytime within 33-72 seconds, the average being around 52.5 seconds.
- Your hull will degrade at a rate of 1.17*Integrity. So if your hull health is 100, your ship hull will be destroyed in 117 seconds. (This is without any Hull Reinforcement Packages)
- Modules will be destroyed at a rate of approximately 3.5*Integrity. So if your module has 100 integrity, that module will be at 0% health after approximately 350 seconds. Again, this is approximate because module damage is random. A time difference of up to 30% is expected. (This is without any Module Reinforcement Packages)
- For best results, escape via Hyperspace (into a different system).
- Once your Thrusters, Frame Shift Drive, OR Power Plant become 0%, attempt Reboot/Repair and let us know if this made a difference.
- Never give up, keep going until you've exhausted all options.
