With the success of the Elite Dangerous kickstarter, the results we can get from crowd funding the development of the kinds of games today's publishers are just not up to making are becoming starkly obvious.
I am not sure about the good folks in here but I had largely written off substantial games these days as being too formulaic and aimed at today's teen to mid 20's gamer who appears to largely buy based on similarity of titles rather than originality of content or execution.
So, beyond Elite there is a cottage industry of independent (indie) developers out there with some interesting (and usually deep) game designs that would not see the light of day via EA, or little mention on the traditional gaming sites.
With this thread I'd like to continue to build a list of interesting and potentially notable crowd funded and indie titles that may be of interest to the Elite of the gaming world - the gaming connoisseur
