Overly Cautious Python Cmdr

So, last night, I FINALLY unlocked Tiana Fortune (had to grind 2 Imperial ranks to get the system permit-BTW is anyone in Imperial space? I was there for a week and saw 2 cmdrs). Now I have all engineers unlocked except for Lori Jameson (I'm only 15% Deadly ATM). Anyway, to reward myself, I bought an Imperial courier and had it shipped to my home station. It's a fun ship. I slapped in the engineered enhanced thrusters I had left over from this adventure: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/141131-The-Viper-thread/page3
These drives really work much better with this ship than they did with the Viper because it's not nearly as power limited. But I digress...

Anyway, was on my way to Wyrd (or maybe Farseer) in my new Courier and just dropped into the system when I saw a hollow box ahead of me and selected it just to see what kind of ship it was. As soon as I selected it, the Python cmdr immediately took evasive action and high waked out like his pants were on fire. I don't blame him as I am pretty wary at engineer bases too. The funny part of it was that I was only armed with the two small pulses that come with all ships by default, so even if I wanted a fight, I was in no condition for it, lol. Anyway, I salute you Overly Cautious Python Cmdr! You are on the ball and your escape drill is down![smile]

My Python in Imperial space would have said a friendly, "Hi!". I came across an Anaconda with pulse lasers and a Novice ranking. He didn't leave the station while I was around. I fly a combat Courier so I know it's capabilities. But my red winged Ferrari lookin' Vulture is pretty cool as well.

I was in the same boat as you recently: wanted the coming scanner upgrades, got enough Empire rep to get to Achenar, and bought an iCourier for fun.

I love flying the thing, but with the enhanced performance thrusters I feel every gram of weight. Even putting lightweight G5 weapons on it hurt...

I'm sometimes in Imperial space. I operate out of Seleru Bao and Gongalungul, mostly. I was at Gongalungul most of Saturday.

I'm sort of confused about my Courier too. With the engineer modded hot rod 3A's, it's wicked fast, but mine at least seems to be power limited such that I can't carry particularly effective weapons. I also seem to be cursed in that every time I go RES bounty hunting in it, I end up getting chased out of the area by the local police for shooting at wanted ships too quickly or something.

It seems like it'd be good for smuggling small quantities of something, though. You could be through the airlock and docked before anyone could scan you. Maybe it would also be good for carrying criminal passengers?

Why is everyone so paranoid?

Hollow Square.
90 degree turn out of shipping lane.
Rx Comms: "Sorry."
Tx Comms: "What for?"
Interdiction.
Pew pew.
Rebuy.

You only need to have it happen a couple of times and high wake / low wake become favoured options.
Personally I've always been about survivability and "Hollow Squares" is a high alert call.
I'm working towards implementing some of the techniques featured here by Massive D.
But the engineering is taking a toll on my ability to be of service to the Alliance.

It would probably be ok for a VIP transport, but I'm out of the VIP hauling biz since they nerfed the pay.

Yep. Sound 'red=alert' ensign, 4 pips to weapons, 2 to systems, prepare for interdiction.. target that CMDR and keep targeted until I say so. Wait for weapons deployed warnings.. Send the "o7" just to let him know we see him...

My 9 year old son always asks, "Why do you get so crazy when you see a human ?"
Me : Because, humans are unpredictable. They kill on a whim, lie, cheat and steal just for fun. Others are helpful, nice, and generally good guys.. And you can never tell which is which.

"Curiosity killed the cat" is an old proverb that might fit. Any way the Python might have been a lowly mission type vessel, there are many possibilities.
But you cant really blame him can you, I mean close to an Engineer base and all.. So yes, he was on the ball, observed, acted and avoided any nasty encounters.
I'd say I would have done the same if carrying one of those "tasty" (FD, see what you done!!) 8,5 mill. credit missions.

Cheers Cmdr's

Where the heck does this happen? I'm yet to be attacked by a player at all, and I'm almost 300 hours in.

Barely never. Its like people screaming that the worlds about to break due to terrorism when terrorism is at its lowest level in decades.

People scare mongering about Open are usually players that don't play in Open. Over the weekend i went to the CG to test the theory that Open is full of rabid crazy greifer gankers; so i set off in my shieldless clipper and did 4 runs of reactive armor.

Nothing, zip, zilch, nada, nothing, no one interested.

I figured maybe they thought a Clipper wasn't worth the hassle, so i did the same thing, 4 more runs, in my shield less T7. Guess what....Same outcome.

Getting ganked in Open is a rarity, but the people who do fall victim are the ones that shout loudest.

I've been pirated more than I've been attacked, but then I rarely do CGs. I was pulled over by a python a couple of days ago at Wyrd (I think), in my super lightweight, paper thin DBX. He scanned me, saw I had no cargo and waved me on my way - we had a friendly chat and that was that.

Sure that that CMDR didn't just do what he/she already was doing?
From time to time I see an other CMDR dropping into the system I'm in while I'm already charging my FSD. No reason to stop.

And btw, noob question, is there any way to see if an other CMDR selects/targets you in SC instead of just flying in the general direction of you?

To be fair my only encounters with other commanders have been positive so far.
This has been out exploring though so not quite the same situation.
I'd run too, just on general principle I think.
It isn't paranoia if they are out to get you, and sometimes they really are.

Yeah, I'm still kind of wondering what to do with it, exactly. I'm thinking of using it as a....courier....

It makes a lovely gank ship in the right hands.

You wont be taking down heavy battleships in it alone but its great against smaller stuff. Its also great as a support ship in wings. Also....engineered....its wicked fast. My combat courier does 750ish. Nothing can hit it
