Panther Clipper Rear Hardpoints phasing issue.

This is a cute spot. But. I couldn't care less.

Not least as a) I'll be using turrets b) I never fly in third person and c) I reallly don't worry about such silly and irrelevant minutiae. FDev's easiest and most sensible solution is to do nothing.

Pew pew!! Everything is fabulous! Hurrah!

Altering the turret/gimbal arc of fire so that it doesn't intersect any part of the ship shouldn't be too hard, but FDev won't do it.

Checking to see if a gun barrel and cargo scoop occupy the same space at the same time shouldn't have been hard either, but just check out your conda next time you're in it....

FDev don't care about things like that.

A player new to ED might think the Panther MK2 is actually a combat ship tsk tsk 😁
Not unreasonable given its role in FE2/FFE - sure, it could carry a lot of payload, but back then that meant "a ridiculous amount of firepower and still 500-800t left over for cargo and passengers"

ED doesn't really have a need for the "armed trader" archetype of the previous games, though.

If they want to sell me arx, this isn't the way to do it. I hope they fix it. If not, three months fly by really fast at my age. I can put up with defects if I pay in credits.

They could scallop the hull where the weapons shot fixed, and at add a deadzone for gimballed and turreted. They could also install it after the launch. I do find it a bit strange when Chris(?) was asked in the FUnlocked- How difficult was the positioning of armaments on the clipper? Then he responded- actually rather easy, its a boxy shape with plenty of area to fit 10 weapon positions. Then added- It was one of the easier ships to figure out the placements. Those are not quotes, my memory is not that sharp, but it is sharp enough to remember the conversation.

Don't want to sound like an azz and hurt feelings, but ya it would be easy to just plug them anywhere and not give rats azz what they shoot through.
I'm still gonna buy it, it just makes me think like everything else in the "modern" world, ya whatever close enough. Then people spend their hard earned money on higher priced items and lower quality inferior crap. You know stuff you buy your whole life and just watch the price go up because someone said raise the price and produce a lesser quality product, making even more profit. I paid 10 dollars a piece for normal copper spark plugs this weekend, through account ive had over 20 years at a local parts store. Those plugs should have cost me $1.79 and the company making them still would have had 300% profit because it only cost them .02 cents each! There, now thats a rant. Oh and they raised the prices for "big" ships, just ridiculous. That shoot through hulls. Idk no pats on the back from me.

It's disappointing to see this lack of care. How was this not picked up at any point during the design process? Or was it noticed, but nobody with the authority to do anything about it took action? I'm not sure which is worse.

It's not the end of the world, but it does show a disturbing lack of attention to detail.

I think it's very strange that a bunch of youtubers are just now discovering that weapons clip through hulls. They do on more than half the ships when used with gimbals at certain angles. The corsair fires its lower hardpoint through its nose!

Honestly my friend it's a good thing, they do it on purpose. It's a slight shame it's 'so' obvious on the upper hardpoints which are more visible, but it's a feature of the game and gimbals are 'better' because of it. If every hardpoint was unable to clip through the hulls just a little bit, loads of ships would be unusable with gimbals, corsair included.

Does that mean you won't buy any arx until the other 20 ships that do this get fixed as well? Sorry to be facetious, but it's honestly a little frustrating to me to see a bunch of players outraged by something that's been in the game and nobody ever made a big deal about, since day 1.

Yep. We already have enough trouble with gimbals getting blocked by hull curvature and shape. If they start strictly enforcing weapon arc and clearance, a lot of people's favorite ships become a whole lot less effective.

Add this to the "performative outrage for clicks" pile.

Nah, I disagree. Change the ships and/or hardpoint locations then. Surely the status quo isn't the best possible outcome.

Obviously it's not a gamebreaking problem, but it's not exactly great either.
