Patience

Is that why they had a fast-forward button and an autopilot for skipping travel times? Along with no limit to maximum velocity?

Gotta go 100,000km/s, man.

Yeah, well, no time control in a shared galaxy I fear. And yeah, I'd love to have less limits due to gameplay choices actually, but then other people scream because in other departments that would endanger their fun. Would also mean no more dogfighting I fear.

Patience, or just a slow burner?

If I want adrenaline, I'll hit up PUBG or BF series. Just a few minutes will get my heart rate up and my twitch-reactions going!

But if I want to chill with some music, a couple of cold beers, and a few hours of engaged relaxation, then it's Elite I play.

Sure, there are heart-pumping moments in Elite, but they're the exception rather than the day-to-day for the "generalist"; trader, explorer, community goal-er... (of course, not if you're a dedicated CZ-er/PvP-er/Grief-er/Elite combat junkie)

I guess it's why I'm still playing with over 5 weeks in-game to date! :D

It's not in any way essential for me if the development process of a game takes more or less time. Even if I like the game very much. There is no "too much patience" in this case because there is no consequence for me.

Also, concerning development time, I believe Frontier wants the same as we do, to develop as fast as possible. So even if something went wrong and they needed a lot of time to, for example, restructure something under the hood or whatever, that's unfortunately but well, can't be changed.
You can complain about things taking to long and you can also choose to not trust the devs to love and support the game as good as they can, but that's your choice.

Given you complain, what's the outcome? Let's assume the devs don't care and ignore you, which would mean, the outcome is nothing. Let's assume the devs care, but ran into problems that will take a while to restructure, and because of complains they rush. Rush is never good when coding. So they see the complains and don't rush and take their time because it is necessary to create a clean update they can build on later. So, again, what does impatient complaining help? I tell you: nothing.

Perhaps "Trust" would be another topic that deserves a thread on its own. But to make this clear: I trust Frontier to be as eager as we are to get new stuff into the game. I think Elite is a labor of love and they do the best they can, which is, in my opinion, pretty awesome so far. You can believe what you want of course.

Interesting take on it, and very personal. I commend you.

For me it's a matter of the longer the design (not development) arc gets drawn out, the risk increases.

Without a firm commitment from FD that ED will be developed "in perpetuity" (there's no reason that it can't be), or indeed any communication over the planned support going forward and what metrics are being used, to decided whether current support levels change...one can only assume that at some point the "game" that is ED will end. As we go along with light improvement, that timescale gets restricted. I'd like to know what that timescale is, if there is one, and how much time "away from the game" I can risk.

Hopefully, there are no plans for withdrawing support for ED. It would however, be nice to know what the contingency plan is, just to allay "real world" concerns and allow those who have, or are running out of patience...to better judge and decide for themselves whether there are consequences for them based on actual information as opposed to "trust" or "faith". Neither of which are actual currency, in this case. Just ask the KS Backers or LEP Owners.

Beyond being free is a good move in this context, but the actual quality of content has yet to be realised. Fingers crossed it satiates the beast.

You seem happy though. Which makes me happy.

I had, but did not need, the patience to read everything and I was rewarded with good entertainment. Well written, repped.

And I agree: when the time comes that FDev removed all the space-is-big experience, it will be no space game anymore for me. For now it is still THE space game for me.

If someone plays the multi-tasking card then I'm folding

Says the guy playing the Contingency Card.

Here.. let's throw this one out there too and get it over with...

Excellent example! Don't. You go somewhere to find this one specific USS because you want something fast. And of course it will not come fast enough because you are impatiently cruising along and waiting for it. Instead do something else and scan every USS on the way. The one you are looking for will pop up at some point. Yeah, perhaps not today, but well, that's what I am talking about.

So the only way to play the game is to bumble along aimlessly, I see. Blaze your own trail aimlessly, without focus or goals. Not my kind of game and not most people's kind of game I'd think.

Completely off-topic, but I clicked the link in your signature. Awesome exploration music so far. :)

Thanks! I hope you continue to enjoy the rest. If you get a chance, I recommend browsing the Bandcamp website. A tonne of great stuff on there. (no affiliation )

Sorry - I ran out of patience to read the OP article. Was there anything I missed?

Lol, I diddnt so much run out of patience as Im a very patient man in RL, but it was more of the another forum post telling others how to be. Or was it I dont know diddnt read all of it, but I sort of see where the OP was going and over all agree with the point being made.

But then It was way back when I was running for a Tube train and came hurtlting around the corner and almost sent a mum and her parm flying towards the tracks, since that day I have never rushed to get anywhere in life even though I hate being late, nor have I worried about how long things take to come out, its done when its done and will get here when it gets here.
