Paving and walkways

How you would using it ? With spraying you couldn't build straight lines!
This is not to replace the "Normal Curved Path Tool" (you've described) but rather as a complement (You could choose between the two systems, with an icon, or a keyboard shortcut).

In which case of scenario it would make sense using it for a path system?
Well, everything that is not a straight line or curves.

If you only have the "Normal Curved Path Tool", how can you make this ? You cannot !

But I agree that the "Spray" solution is not the only one. We have the "Vector-like"

A system where it is possible to stretch the paths to any type of shapes, could be fine. (Like what you can do with vector shapes, in Illustrator, image below).
Unfortunately this would be a little more complicated to create the shapes we want, but it works too.

But it Must be easy to use

Why not use the same type of system that Cities Skylines did for their road system but just for the paths, this way you can have perfectly straight areas and then curved areas, and maybe even a free path transformation tool as well that would be like the spray tool? This way everyone has the best of all the worlds?

Are you talking about this : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_g1LZcBdm0 ? If yes, this is what i called the "Normal Curved Path Tool", it's obvious that we will have that kind of thing, it's like "the minimum".

The idea here was to improve this system, to allow more "shapes" by thinking out of the box : "a path is not a road but an area"

Yeah I was talking about a path system, but if we are talking about doing shapes why not have some type of tool just like in photoshop like you were saying above that would let you draw out a path or draw a area that you would want to fill. Once you have the area drawn out then you will "fill" it will concrete or black top or some path top. This would create your path in a custom shape the way you wanted to make it.

I see exactly what you are talking about and I like it. From my point-of-view, what you are saying would be a tool much like the 'Pen Tool' in Photoshop/Illustrator to draw a custom 'Path', once said 'Path' is drawn you can in turn 'Fill' or 'Stroke' the path with the texture of your choosing. In the case of Planet Coaster, this 'Path' would turn into a walkway.

I think a feature like that would work well for custom path building, especially if it is a bezier type system as well, allowing for smooth curves, much like the Photoshop/Illustrator 'Pen' tool.

Also as demonstrated above by Angelis.

Okay ...
After seeing the "Paths system" of the competitor (A "simple curved road builder" with "X" differents shapes), i need to say that :

We DEFINITELY need a "Spray-based" or a "Vector-based" system in PlanetCoaster, that allow us to make area, and not only roads.

I'm not holding the competitors attempts at path building up as the bar to reach. It looks like paths are going to be a pain in that game, especially if you want to have some kind of symmetry. I think their concept can work for PC, but I have faith that Frontier will be able to implement it in a better way.

I agree.

But I just want to be sure. [big grin]

I want to add a suggestion here :

I would have a specific form in the interface to upload my own "path/area texture".

Description of operation :
1) I make a tileable texture
2) I upload this image with the upload form
3) I select the "material" in the list (to define if it's cobbles, sand, metal, etc ... in case the sounds change depending on the material)
4) I can use my texture to make path/area

And we have a "unlimited path style" [big grin]

The same thing could be applied to the terraforming tool (to paint with our own textures)

After playing with RCTW's path system, I stand by idea of at least being able to spray dynamic paths. I don't even understand how they missed a crucial part of being able to make massive walkways. Can't even connect 2 curved paths together without some error.

I just want to be able to mould paths, not just making them curved. Super disappointed with other game.

Just give me tools like Cities Skylines for roads and the ability to place objects on that path that "snap" as well as a Shift+Click = Fill to put down Benches or Lights or trashcans perfectly spaced on a "section" of path.

Nope ! I not agree.

"Theme parks sim games" are totally differents from "City builder games", on many aspects.
The "Path System" is one of many aspects that are different.

The "Cities Skylines tool" is perfect for "a city", but not for a "theme park" !

A City is made with many "straight and curved roads" :

When a Theme Park is made with many "large areas and small paths" :

This is why a "spray" system (or a "vector" system) is more appropriate.

For the first time since reading this thread, I just pictured a spray system in my mind that actually worked and I think you're probably right now. A spray system could work wonders.

I think using the toolsets like mentioned above would be a great start but having different "brushes" to be able to paint your paths in different shapes would be a great functionality of the toolset. However, I want straight midways. I want straight Queue lines. I want precise bridges and other "paths". Im not a huge fan of just blobs of space for the peeps to walk around on. I want to have some design/creative choices and wide range of tools to use. Blobs would work in some scenarios sure. But I like my paths to be uniform and precise. :)

Yep, like i said in the previous page, we need "straight and curved path" too, obviously ! [happy]

If i take the Disneyland Paris exemple :

- Main Street USA is a huge and large straight road, with a big roundabout at the end
- Frontierland / Adventureland are large areas with irregular shapes and small curved paths

And it's amazing because, we can see the difference here, with "roads" (grey) and "paths/areas" (beige)
(It was not on purpose, but this is great for the exemple)

I would like like a circular texture tool that paints paths. That way i can make them any size and shape. It would be neat for you to be able to place benches, lights, signs, etc anywhere on the map and snap on the side of the path. So if i wanted i can put a bench in the middle of a nowhere or in the middle of the path, and if i wanted to make it look nice it would be able to snap to the side of the path, i dont know how they can make it snap if its a paint like path tool.

[...] i dont know how they can make it snap if its a paint like path tool.
Exactly the same manner than using other system.

In 3D, a circle is not "a perfect circle" (unlike vectors) but contains edges. So there are "benchmarks" everywhere, even if the shape of the road is crooked.

Plus, the idea of smoothing could come into play, so even if you put down a bit of a wobbly path, you can set it so the game smooths it out. Or you could keep it wobbly and uneven if you want an extra bit of character for the park layout.
