Mines the same, replaced and aging old one that couldn't muster the energy to run my new graphics card and it has a thermostatic fan in it, probably as much part fo the new energy efficiency standards as for noise.

This new one has 50% less fans and about 200% less noise. :D

I've got exactly the same unit and I don't think it's spun once yet. As AndyB said, it's normal for this product (one of the reasons I chose it).

Awesome!! I know what I'm going to shoot for now. Your comments have definitely helped. I like the mother board. The previous one I was looking into was the Gigabyte 87. The Asus board will save me 100$ and I have no worries on what CPU to buy. The 4 gig GPU is a great way to get started with the additional slot on the MB I can add another GPU in a year or two. With the latest chipset upgrading the CPU will not be a problem. For cost reasons and not having to worry about HD space I will go with the HDD you recommended. The cooling unit you suggested seems it will work best for now and future upgrades. Thanks for all your input, I will post my outcome, if you ever need a wingman or an escort in ED, just give me a shout.

Glad to help, looking forward to seeing your new & shiny computer. :)

Good job!! I will post a pic of my new build as well. I squirled away some nickels and dimes so far. The insurance company sucks and say they will only put 710$ towards a new PC. Those *******s!! Oh well, I didn't want to resort to this but I guess I will have to sell one of the children. :p

I think it's a typo and should read "Toshiba 2.5 inch 60GB Solid State Hard Drive"

If you read the description, it only mentions 60, 128, 256 & 512 GB

If that's the case, then no - it's not a bargain :)

Saying that £220 for 540gb is not too shabby... won't be long till these prices tumble

Hardware Sales Spike

After reading quite a few posts about folks (including myself) buying X52 joysticks, hardware upgrades and even brand new PCs, I was wondering what kind of positive impact E : D has had on pc hardware sales this quarter?

Not enough to effect general hardware sales but Saitek look to be getting a massive sales boost from ED and SC.

Edit: maybe they could look at doing a ED / SC special edition.

I don't even put a drink on the same side of the desk as my computer, who would be sufficiently foolhardy to place a cup or glass of liquid on top of their case on a good day?

*shudders*.

Elite's system requirements aren't super high, but it might help the joystick and Rift sales. I'm thinking Star Citizen will encourage people to upgrade their rigs/graphic CPUs moreso than Elite.

Rumours (that's all I've seen so far to claim that it's anything more) that Saitek will be producing an SC related peripheral. Apparently some video somewhere has mentioned there being "interest", but still nothing concrete.

These things always seem to be a rip off if you don't value the aesthetic differences (how much time do you actually spend looking at your peripherals versus using them?) They are usually the same basic build item with some stickers or other other decals on them. Not impressed.
