Interceptors don't immediately attack. They even attempt to communicate. Their technology appears to be significantly more advanced than ours and, like in any good story, the very technologicaly advanced people are weary about allowing their technology to be used by people that have not developed it themselves and who have not yet learned the consequences and responsibilities associated with it.

As an optimist I still have some hope for humanity to overcome their faults.
