Pilot Ejection Table - For those who want some risk in their game!

Would you mind mossfoot if I made a single webpage version of this? Might be handy when the mac version of ED comes out, or if your 'for running all those support apps' laptop isn't windows (like me!). Should be straightforward to code with a little javascript, and I'll post source for self-hosting, no ads etc. Don't want to step on your toes either KellyR!

Personally i don't mind. I'll link to it as well. Options are good :)

Someone ask's me to do something on the internet but admits he has the plague, do i...

1) Aw' crap great Idea but download nothing (at least he's honest) ;)

2) Read 'The Dice Man' by Luke Rhinehart (george Cockroft) :D

4) Do whatever I like in game if it comes to it?

5) Save up for a tax free home in Monaco

6) Buy a Lakon!!!

3) Pretend it's a '5'

This program doesn't have a plague. I find it odd that Panda would do this as it is one of the programs that detects no threat on the file checker service. I didn't do that for the updated version when I release it but I have now. Below are the links to the results.

https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/...6e905c43a1f12506b0bd1836/analysis/1425472178/

Just because a virus checker says something is suspicious does not mean it is or has a virus. Windows told me it blocked the program, the first time I ran it and I developed it on this machine. Does that mean I shouldn't have ran it?

I have now went to general release on EDIMRanGen. Version 1.0 is out now. You can get it by Clicking here.

I've included the links to scans by TotalVirus.com and Jotti.org, both of which show no infections or malware. It has been reported that Panda doesn't like this program. I recommend setting an exception in Panda, if you use it. The documentation for Panda should tell you how to do this, or you can google it.

Any bug reports please let me know here or by the method stated in the readme.txt file.

Got taken out in a Low Intensity Combat Zone near Sol... modifiers totalled +6 which was good, because I rolled a 7. Whew! Live to fight another day... now if I can afford my insurance....

Were you using my program or your dice?

I admit I used the die this time because that silly panda Antivirus has to be shut off to run your program on my machine (otherwise it auto deletes it). I know it's safe and all, it's just it was quicker to use the die.

Ooh, had a thought. You should see if you can get it made into an app for Overwolf... Look it up to see what I mean. They even have an ED skin for it now.

Haha, ejector seat pops when you fly into the station wall. It ejects you with some extra oomph, right into a bulkhead. All over the bulkhead. And over there too.

i love the idea, but sine we all know that it takes alot of effort to get the top ships. i'm not willing to lose my asp, FDL and Type 9 just for the fun of it... but if this game was a lot easier and getting the top ships were ez, i would do it :/

I hear you, but that's exactly why some of us play it this way ;) the difficulty and length of time to get ahead means you are going to be VERY careful before doing something that might get you killed. Well, usually...

It's not that hard once you have some experience. When you first start as a newbie, sure. Getting a python, type 9 or worse yet, anaconda, seems daunting in the extreme. But once you have the experience, you can be back in an Asp inside of a week if you're smart. Assuming you can play more than an hour or two every day.

What exactly is the canon behind the ejection/rescue procedure? I assume the Pilot Federation gets a notification upon ejection and tasks the nearest commander in good standing with retrieving you or something along those lines.
In a book I'm currently reading (not related to ED aside from being a space opera that tries to be scientifically plausible) everyone is legally obligated to respond to distress beacons, which is enforced by a scan of your ship's logs as you dock.

Also, I would add that if your ship is destroyed as the result of a crime you committed your insurance doesn't pay out (on a 10-20 you take the sidewinder).

I'm not sure if there IS an official canon.

The thing about canon is, nerds love to rip it to shreds or enforce it with an iron will. Better to keep it vague, I suspect.

Heck, you've seen people on this thread who make the case for the idea that we actually die each time and a clone takes over at the nearest starport. I for one don't truck with that, especially since we clearly see from the concept art on the first page that the ejection seat works and is designed to get you away from the wreckage via a main thruster and maneuvering jets.

Your crime penalty idea is definitely interesting, but crime gets treated pretty leniently in Elite overall. I like the idea of an insurance company using this as an "out" to not paying out, but this shouldn't change the odds of rescue iteslf. Perhaps for every XXXXX bounty on your head the window in which the loophole factor comes into effect increases by 1?

Career pirates might consider this unfair, but honestly, what is fair about a life of crime? ;) But I'd like to know if any pirates actually use this table first!

Stop!
Frontier might get the lazy idea that they can now skip working on an iron man mode...

Heh. Naw, I think this ejection table fits a different kind of niche. It's not Iron Man as some people implement it now (dead is dead no exceptions) and if Iron Man is implemented in-game, it will no doubt be similar to the way it was in previous games, that it's up to you to eject before getting killed.

So even with official Iron Man, this would be useful for those who want the auto-eject as it is, but with a sliding scale of reasonable risk attached :D

I don't think strict Iron Man (dead is dead) would work in a multi-player environment. It would be mortally damaging to PvP. The system we currently have is damaging to PvP, but not mortally so. Cause if you lose you can be back in your ship with some loss, but not totally starting over (unless you didn't have your rebuy).

Therefore I think that this table, or my program, whichever you choose to use, is about the best solution. Now if they wanted to incorporate this as part of a conditional Iron Man mode, that would be fine, but dead is dead just wouldn't work; most people would not play in that mode. And if they change it where that was the only mode there was, they would lose most of their players.
