ping time in network settings, what's going on?

07 so in network settings it has the ping time displayed when I log on it's usually okay around 40-50ms but when I play for a while and go to log off if I check it can be in the 100s. This can happen even when playing with my partner on the same network and my father-in-law down the road from me. As i understand it elite uses p2p to connect to players so i can understand if my ping was that high after taking part in a cg or going to an engineer base in open as I may encounter players from other distant parts of the world. So whats happening here? Does that ping mean that for some reason while i play with people that are close to me it connects us all to different servers from all around the world which is creating the high ping times or am i missing something any help on this would be much appreciated

AFAIK the value shown is the ping time to Frontier's server, which is indeed not important because it's for low-urgency traffic (e.g. matchmaking).

Ping times between peers are important, but these are different for each peer and change all the time, depending on who's instancing with you. There isn't much you can do about it.

have you ever been in a telephone old school/new conference call the tech is the same frontier just connect your call instead of an old school tel operator a human who would connect your call I have long since beta been an advocate of a centralized server like planetside2 and argued since the elite dangerous beta that peer to peer was a really bad direction to take given the successes like planetside2 considering it was and still is free to play you can squad up in seconds with up to 11 per galaxy trans
(play it a while i dare you then imagine a truly online elite experiance) now I do understand that fd was a crowd funded endeavour compared to giants like Sony but going forward...…
with 5g networks
