Planet graphics is broken in many ways and FDEV is in silence. Why?

It was clearly released too early, but not all the issues are due to being undercooked. Copy pasta terrain was a dev decision, and is the worst of the planet tech issues.

@Fishman Supporting creators of any kind only makes sense when they create content that is appreciated. Spouting, "Support X!" is only a testament to the fact that people aren't finding it worth it. It reminds me of my days in the local music scene. The worse a band was, the harder they pushed, "Support Local Music!". The people do support local music, your band just sucks.
Well i appreciate all their hard work.

They said in many streams. Basically when many open the same ticket (choosing by one already open, searchable as soon as you fill the subject), the ticket enter in a queue until reach this point on the first page.

But the community manager could be wrong.

I hope you reach your target, if you haven't already but I only believe in supporting stuff I can actually see or experience. Good luck.

I doubt, anyway I've created many tickets and this thread. Every player should do the same to 'force' they, at least give us a update. Let's see.
If you created many tickets just for the planets graphics it is an issue in itself.
As always said on forums "Use the search function" to see if someone already addressed the issue/question and address it there.
Apart from that, the developers have stated that the planet generation isn't working as intended and are working on getting it fixed, might take a while since it's a different approach from the previous code, in the end it should be able to add much better results.

I would suggest Fdev to setup a feedback request, where broken planets and in which way they are broken, can be reported.
Maybe something ala a Google form so it gets usable data and nothing else, think that could speed it up for all parts.

I prefer an exact analysis before something is changed in the code than that with a quick shot new bugs come into the game. Still, FD could be a little more communicative at times.

You need some people to look over everything visually regardless with the amount of planets in question.

Just to give perspective.

Maybe, just thought that it could be helpful and save from going over everything themselves = less pressure.
Usually how alpha/beta works.
Problem was there was no officially stated beta only several alpha stages. Perhaps, if they had said that there were were then going to be two lengthy beta stages leading up to the PC with console mergers first alpha stage. Then half the angst might have been mitigated. Players would have clearly understood there would naturally be further issues on going to be resolved for some time to come. If it was possible to do it that way around that is.

Perfect! Sell the BETA, even with the 'full price'. People would buy knowing what to expect, and the response would be much better.

What's wrong with planet tech? No problems here /s

Why are they quiet?

Think about a pilot that was supposed to fly to LA but now finds that he is well on its way to Australia, and the passengers ar asking how come they can see a Kangaroo out the window.

The short answer is - there is no easy turning back from this bad turn...

BTW, I'm curious on how they'll fix everything, in special how they will optimize the graphics to the console launch.
Run this update in a 1.8tflops console (PS4) will be a challenge. :)
Not necessarily. The advantage of putting EDO on consoles is that the exact setup, hardware and OS, is known in advance. Your PS4 is the same as mine (if I had one) is the same as the devs. The challenge with EDO on PC is that there are 100s of combinations of hardware and OS configurations - that kind of explains (in part) why BDE was so flippant about his set up running lovely and most everyone else's dog pile.

That's not to say of course that edo was clearly not ready for market and was pushed put put the $$, just saying that PC is harder to develop for than console.

Personally, after seeing many hand crafted locations (Jameson crash for example as stated in the OP post), I don't think the game will ever recover after Odyssey. The downgrade is just too much. You can't expect them to change the whole graphics system, nor to hand craft dozens of locations again..

You can't duplicate passion, or the driving force behind a new game. Things that existed in the beginnings of Elite Dangerous..

Not really, my new 2060 still shows flat surface periodically, reloading game helps usually. + this is common case for real flat ice like world where you have huge empty field without limiting mountains. So card just don't have enough VRAM. But on surface with mountains it's just perfect always.

His 1080ti is not worse than your 2060. Actually it's better. Not only faster, but also it has more vram than a 2060 :)

I see exactly what was shown in the pre alpha trailer and seen in the alpha itself, really.

It seems someone tried to make the same planet out of plastic, but couldn't get the mountains quite right.

A planet that was visited by player during alpha, AKA the "Frozen planet". It's actually a decent planet, if you don't take the bugs into account (tilling, lod issue). But it's nowhere near what was in alpha.

Low atmo flight. One have already visible snow/ice on the ground, the other a weird dotted camo. Also volumetric atmo vs shader atmo.

Cold fog weather effect ✅
Large amount of scattering ✅
Visible ice on the ground and rocks ✅
Volumetric atmo ✅
Verdict : (y)

Bonus shots !
Nice texture instead of actual ground noise :

Such high quality ! Wow !

Now, as I said, the second planet is decent. But it's nowhere NEAR what we had in pre alpha-alpha.

If you press alt-F ctrl-F your screenshots will show the game version active at the time (and framerate).

There is only one playable game version in Odyssey. I did the screenshot literally today.
Framerate doesn't matter for screenshot, they are pictures.
