Planet Zoo: Arid Animal Pack and Free Update 1.14 Out Now! 🐪

First up, we've got a brand new friend to introduce you to - meet the Red Deer, which will shortly be available to add to your zoos!

The Red Deer is one of the largest deer species, inhabiting most of Europe along with Northern Africa and West Asia, and is widespread enough to be considered Least Concern status. We're really excited to see the kinds of habitats you create for them in your zoos!
@Lydiah Moon The red deer is still not shown on the zoopedia when the Africa filter is active despite the zoopedia map, description and even the announcement post indicating that the red deer lives in Northern Africa. I reported it on the issue tracker but it got expired. The red deer needs to get the Africa tag. The arid pack has given much love to this region, but the deer has been sadly forgotten.

Continental tags annoy me to no end. Say the red deer gets the africa tag, and already has the grassland tag, now it would be fine with african savannah trees and bushes. If we ever get a PZ2 I hope we get a better map and continent system.

Well, it's both bad and good.
I mean, in real-life I doubt animals really care what plants are in their enclosures. I mean, we have exotic plants growing in zoos.
I think the important thing is for the animals not to get potentially sick from eating or interacting with certain plants.

But also, I think expanding the Zoopedia to include plants, or having a Plantpedia, would help educate players as to know what plants they should use (in theory)

The vegetation system is also quite meh, as animals don't really care much if the tree that is giving them shade is from a specific continent. Local zoo has had its cassowary living in the shade of an oak for close to 2 decades now, and guy is happy without the Australian rainforest vegetation.

I do believe that zoo sims should place more emphasis on stuff like shelter, shade, and enrichment for animal welfare, while leaving the biome recreation something that benefits GUEST reaction. Say, proper plants would give guests education bonus, rather than animals complaining about geobotany.
The territory formation of the JWE games is also more on point, because animals being aware of the entire terrain composition of the habitat they are in is quite weird. Have the animal look for what it has around it, and wether it has enough of it, rather than whether the proportion is right.

Are there any news regarding the flickering porccupine bug? It's such an amazing animal and model and I really want to use it properly.

I'd like to know if it's at least being looked into.

Agree! Although, in all fairness, plants make very little difference to animal welfare in-game and can generally be ignored. Nevertheless, a positive effect on guest education would be good

My PC is a gaming laptop, but I've had flickering with even Zoo Tycoon 2 mods. Porcupine quills are going to cause flickering in most machines.
