Planet Zoo: Arid Animal Pack Releasing 20 June 🐪

Initially, thoughts are that this pack is a huge missed opportunity. Obviously, it's going to get harder and harder to give us new, truly unique animals as more are added to the game, but this pack of 7 habitat animals only adds 1 (the porcupine)....really?

I mean, the Hamadryas baboon has been in the top 10 community wishlist for at least 2 years at this point. Did anyone really want another gazelle species? Especially with 3 other hoofstock species and an additional ungulate. The camel, donkey, rhino, addax, gazelle and sand cat all have at least somewhat comparable species in terms of taxon and niche in the game.

No baboon, no desert birds, no North or South American representation at all? Sorry, everyone, I'm disappointed this go around.

A Baboon and a Secretary Bird would have been cool, and I still hope to see some desert animals from other regions, but I really like this lineup. The Dromedary and Crested Porcupine have been high on my list for ages, and I also really like the Addax, Somali Wild, and Sand Cat. It will be so nice to have a little cat!!! The Black Rhino was popular even if it wasn't for me, and I still think it is good. The Dama Gazelle is a nice surprise pick, although I might have preferred a bird, monkey, or reptile. I think this will be my third favorite pack, just behind grasslands and North America. Thank you, Frontier! I'm really excited for its release!

Okay, going through the animals.
African crested porcupine - Excellent. Getting a new rodent is always an exciting thing, and they are probably one of the most-required animals now in the game.
Dromedary camel - I guess they are fairly essential as a desert species, but would not have been my first choice.
Sand cat - It is great to have an actual small cat in the game. Look forward to making a nice little niche for them in a zoo.
Black rhinoceros - My favourite rhino species. I was a bit disappointed when the white came instead of the black in the Africa Pack, so this redresses the balance.
Somali wild ass - Another animal I very much wanted. A centrepiece from the Horn of Africa is now in place.
Addax and dama gazelle - Both fairly similar to me really. I possibly would have preferred a goitered gazelle instead of the dama, just to get a fully Asian species.
Desert horned viper - Would have rather had a red spitting cobra, but it is good to get confirmation that snakes are possible in DLC if nothing else.

In short, a good pack, but definitely needed some different animals. I would have swapped out the addax and dama gazelle personally in favour of some desert species not from Africa.

interesting that it is called arid animal pack instead of drylands animal pack, which was more in line with the existing naming scheme for packs

With this pack out, we got 3 animals from Zoo Tycoon 2 ! Now the only basegame animals missing from Zoo Tycoon 2 are the Nile Crocodile and the Musk Ox, and I would be hyped to get the Musk Ox in Winter.

We finally have the Somali wild donkey in the game. It's a great animal pack

Maybe I would have changed the Desert horned viper for the Thorny devil

Hopefully, at some point, we will have the Saiga antelope or the Ethiopian wolf. What are the animals that I have asked for the most along with Somali wild donkey

The screenshot of the Sand Cat is killing me 😭😍🥰❤️

I Like the Pack even when this could mean the end of my hope for the Kirk Dik Dik. Dromedary and Porcupine alone cannot make this pack somehow bad for me. In the end 3 animals from my Personal Wishlist is a good number.
Going on to the critics: They are reasonable and I can understand them. The Hamadryas Baboon would have been a cool addition instead perhaps the Dama Gazelle but I would not say that it has no further chances. Regarding birds I do not really mind. I surely welcome birds if we get them but I do not really heavily care much about them like others.

Also, I’m beyond stoked for @nutrit and @Swiftie_Midnights_ . It’s always exciting to see people get their favorite animals added, and these have been two of the most vocal forum members in support of theirs.

Fingers crossed that I’ll get mine before it’s all said and done.
thank you so much!!! really I'm so happy right now, thanks for being so happy for me!!!!!!!!!!
