Planet Zoo: Barnyard Animal Pack | Announce

Pretty sure the decision if supoort continues or not isnt gonna be made on a whim if this DLC does good or not.
If this is the last one the decision for that would have been made a while ago
No. But it’s the only thing we can all do that MIGHT help continue support. Other than that, there’s no other way for us to have any impact. As someone said here earlier, this is a company. The only way they operate is through sales.

While signs of it being the last or not are up in the air, there shouldn't be a reason to stop. Even though the packs are slowly digressing in popularity, they still make money. There are no other games in PZs genre that hold any competition so they can really do whatever they want without any competition. If they stick with the amount of effort in each pack recently I think they could keep going, but perhaps that's wishful thinking.
Kinda my thoughts. I always figured they would milk it for as long as they could even if that meant putting out ridiculous packs like unicorns and ligers.

But I honestly have no clue how much it actually costs to churn out a pack vs the cost to create one.

Mmmm settling in after my initial shock and disappointment. Which....if it's not the last pack, my disappointment will be lessened, but we won't know that until we never get anything again (okay, if we don't have any signs of anything by October we're probably done). My biggest disappointment for the most part is not the animals themselves but the theme. If we knew we were getting another 2 or 3 (or even 1) more pack, I'd be fine with this theme. but this could be it and it's a really horrible (IMO) choice to end the game on.

The Good:

Sussex Chicken - getting the big one out of the way. ironic since it's the smallest of the animals. We thought we'd be getting a bird, just not this bird. As far as the theme goes, it's a good pick as a general bird and I have no issues with the actual species. So I approve, in the context of the theme.

Highland Cattle - probably my favorite pick out of the group and I'm actually excited for it. Even outside of the actual theme, it would have at the very least been an alright pick for some other theme. Within the theme, it's the star here, for me anyways.

Alpine Goat - A goat totally made sense for the theme and while I would rather have seen the Nubian Goat, this is not a bad choice.

Alpaca - Again, another animal I'd had floating around for the idea of a petting zoo pack. It's not my favorite but it's a good choice IMO. It does get South America another animal even though it wasn't one that was high up on any expectations for the region.

The Not so Good:

The Donkey. Outside of a rabbit, the animal I think I would have looked forward to the most in this type of pack was the Shetland Pony. Sure...they're both equids, and while it's good to get a fourth equid, it's a disappointing choice IMO.

Hill Radnor Sheep - Now we get to the point of this being way too ungulate heavy, despite this being a pack that was always going to include a lot of ungulates. It's not like they could put carnivores in this pack (oh hey our first pack without a carnivore I think!). I'll admit I'm really just not much of a sheep person, so that lays into my opinion on this choice as well. Despite liking goats and cows, sheep have just never been my thing. In the context of the pack needing a sheep, I think with an equid, a bovid, a camelid, and a caprine, there could have been another choice the fact that sheep are very common farm animals.

The Bad:
The Unnecessary Pig. I don't care about its name. That's what I'm calling it. I don't deny that pigs are a big part of farms, but getting a sixth (!!!!) ungulate, even in this pack, is at least one or two too many. Definitely at least one too many. We got three pig-type animals least year, putting us at 5 total. A sixth piggie was just not needed. Rabbit, Duck, Turkey, Geese, any of these would have been much more welcome by me. And none of them are an ungulate. Even in the context of a disappointing theme (for now), this is a really not a good pick.

I'll make the most of this pack, since it's what we're getting and of course I'm going to buy it. I will enjoy the new guest interactions with the animals, but it's pretty likely you won't find them interacting with pigs in any of my zoos.

That said, I do look forward to making a very simple more farm-oriented zoo, even if I'm not thrilled with the theme and none of the animals were high on my....oh let's be honest. None of these animals were really on my want list at all outside of the purposes for the theme.

I for one am pretty happy with this pack. It fills the barn/petting zoo niche pretty fully, which is something that I have wanted since the beginning of the game. Just regular animals would have angered a lot of people anyway; as for any theme only like 2 most requested animals would have made it in and the rest would be basically wasted, and people would get just as mad they didn't get their favorite animal in. This pack lets us fill the whole barn niche which was mostly entirely missing before. Feels pretty new and cool for me. If this pack had been released before people wouldn't be as mad, so you're all not really angry at this pack, you're just angry that you didn't get something else last, probably birds. I mean, they could perfectly still go on, but modders already figured out flying birds anyway, so I'm pretty happy with this result.

It’s not necessarily a bad pack as all zoos feature some sort of petting zoo section more often than not. I would have liked to have the pack extended by three more animals which would have been a turkey both white and regular variations. A rabbit and a duck. Especially if this is indeed the last pack. As far as the last pack discussion I don’t get last pack vibes from this really but just in case it is I’m not allowing myself to get my hopes up really but only time will tell.

Another thought i had that i find quite ironic. This pack is announced in Earth Day but is about farms and livestock which are arguably bad for the environment in the larger scope. It is kind of funny. And instead of getting a pack to celebrate biodiversity and wildlife we get one full of artificial man-made breeds of animals.

Ok i'm done critizing the pack. Just had to got that out of my system haha

Don't want to keep spoiling the fun for those that actually like it.

Personally, I'm fighting myself about it, but I both love and dislike the burro. I love it because it's great for Mexican representation, as we have a lack of Mexican animals typically associated with Mexico. But, I would've replaced it with either a duck or even another horse, like a mustang, brumby, or Clydesdale

Same with the pig. I've never heard of the breed, although I've actually seen pics of it before. But if they wanted to go iconic, I would've done the Yorkshire. If they wanted something more unique, then the saddleback, potbellied, or guinea hog...

I'm just saying that the animals choices aren't horrible, but I think it would've benefited if they were more international. The highland cartel is absolutely perfect, my only other option would've been the Texas longhorn (I'm from Texas. What can I say?)

I find it odd we’re 18 pages in and nobody brought up putting in a Guinea pig, I mean they’re adorable and they wouldn’t need a new rig or animations unlike a rabbit or duck.
I did:
-Alpaca is the only one that I would change to something else, mainly because it collides with the llama in usage, so I would change it to a guinea pig.

Why would I be happy for other people I don't even know? I live for myself, If I'm unhappy with something I will post about it, just like when I'm happy about something.
Because it's human nature to love others. People have walked all over me and I still want to jump up and help them if they need it. Try to be kind on here for a change, please. It'll make everyone happier
it’s no surprise that I try and be the most positive one in this community but let’s look at all the pro’s on why someone could be excited for this.
I have some competition then. Bring it on, Leaf
All I see in those photo's of those product-cows is a error that took the place of the Wild Yak or Gaur, both which are far superior to those beefs on legs.
Quit your yakking, guar-else the Highland cattle will have some beef with you

On my way to pay 9.99 for epic chicken (y)
I thought that was a pigeon at first. Now I want pigeons in the game...

Not exactly the animals I'd pick for a farm pack - dwarf goat, a turkey, and any duck would've sealed this pack for me - but I like the idea, and it will help both with making realistic small zoos and with my usual "farm sanctuary becomes wildlife park" builds.

Maybe I’m just an optimistic guy, but I have never been disappointed in any of the DLCs. Did I like some of the packs more than others? Yup. Did some of them have species I have never even used once? Yup. Do I have my own personal wishlist of species I would still like for the game? Absolutely (where are the birds and aviaries!). But overall, I just like getting new content. I get excited for new content. Any new species, scenery and foliage are all great to me. I love checking out new scenery items. Not just for the theme they are intended, but how else can I use them in the game.

I’m a little surprised by the barn yard theme, but as someone else mentioned, plenty of zoos have farm or barn yard themed areas. Children’s zoo areas always have domestic species. So understandable why Frontier would have a DLC for this. I am already planning a barn yard area for my current zoo. I’m fine with the species list. I’ll just enjoy the DLC for what it is.

As far as the whole “is this the last pack” discussion, I have never thought this was going to be the last pack. The barn yard theme convinces me even more that there are more DLCs coming. On the last Frontier Unlocked, they even made the comment that they are not done with PC yet. I totally get that this is a 5-year-old game with 16 DLCs, now 17. That’s a long life for any game. Plus the fact that they just released console. But I’m just not getting any vibes that Frontier is ending support for PCs anytime soon.

I have read about the layoffs at Frontier. I have seen information on their financials. I have seen information on player use and adoption. But one of the reports that someone posted indicated that PZ was still profitable for them and that they wanted to continue with their management games. I’m just not going to worry about the status or direction of the company.

So maybe I am overly optimistic, and maybe I’ll be proved wrong, but I am also definitely not doom and gloom about PZ or Frontier. I’m just going to have fun with the Barn Yard DLC and wait to see what comes next. They have to give us birds and aviaries at some point! Don’t they?!!!

I agree with every part of this 100%!
