Planet Zoo: Barnyard Animal Pack | Announce

This is the Worst DLC by far. What a ridiculous idea from Frontier to prefer farm animals for a ZOO GAME instead wild animals from regions that have a poor biodiversity in the game, the best example is south america. I gonna skip this garbage.
I understand how people can think this completely, although it isn't as if this idea hasn't been consistently requested by the community. And realistically, more zoos have petting zoo areas with domestics than those that don't. Both of my local zoo's, the henry doorly zoo and aquarium has goats and a few other domestics, etc

To put it in perspective, y'all, I have yet to visit a zoo that DOESN'T have farm animals. So, when y'all say that farm animals aren't zoo animals, then that ain't true at all. This is almost the same boat as saying "local species don't belong in zoos," which is also not true

Exactly, one of my local zoos opens with a goat contact yard and then goes right into free roaming peacock, white tailed deer, guinea fowl, etc. And my other local zoo houses Baby doll sheep, KuneKune pig, Nigerian dwarf goat, Ferret, Guinea pigs, rabbits, hedgehogs, Pygora goat, and the Pygmy goat. In complete honesty there are so many domestics i wouldnt even mind getting more

I get where some of these people say domestics don't belong in zoos because maybe their local zoo/region doesn't have a petting zoo. Scotland doesn't really have any proper zoos with domestics in them but more open-farms to see domestics which are extremely popular. But then I visit say usa and every single zoo there has a petting zoo of some sort, 2 different worlds in the zoo experience.

My god, the point is about the priority. If you want to see chickens and cows just visit a FARM or go to a country region, the lifetme of planet zoo is ending and the game still missing KEY ANIMALS like New World monkeys, flying birds and aquatic mammals. I hope that Barnyard won't be the final dlc or it will be a nightmare

I think most people already agreed that aquatics won't ever come. Flying birds is debatable, but we have yet to see them so it's leaning to where we won't get them.
The only thing better than the barnyard pack right now would be a South American pack, but even if we got one, we'd likely only get 1 monkey and various Carnivorans and maybe an ungulate.
Thinking about it, I doubt we'd get a South American pack without Carnivorans or ungulates, which is shame because if they did do one, I'd be afraid of the devs choosing something like a guanaco or ocelot over a howler monkey or Patagonian mara.

But if you wanna talk priority, then yes, a petting zoo is important. It's been asked for years, the new update features coincide perfectly, which is also heavily requested. So, I'm glad that this came before the end

I once visited the Singapore Zoo with a local friend. Afterwards I asked her about her favourite animal, and she confidently said it was the goats at the petting zoo. Domestic animals may not be as exciting to us nerdy players, but they certainly excite a lot of people, belong in zoos, and are more iconic/marketable to the average person than, say, a Tasmanian devil, African porcupine, wisent, gibbon or capybara.

Saying it's not your personal priority is fine. Saying it shouldn't be anyone's is gatekeeping other people's opinions. I'd surely have made some different choices regarding this pack, but there is no doubt a high demand for domestic animals. And it's great that they all come in one pack, because if you're not interested you can simply choose not to buy the pack, rather than getting all domestics anyway but spread out over two years.

I wanna clarify that I'm fine if y'all don't like it. What bothers me is when people say that it was the worst choice ever, because it doesn't matter when it came; no matter what the same people would've complained.
But, as I said before, y'all are the same people who've said before, back in 2022 and 2023, that y'all would be ok with a barnyard pack if we had more support. Well, we've definitely had more support since then, so instead of being mad, be happy we even got this far

It is sad that a beautiful game like Planet Zoo is ending looking incomplete without flying birds and few monkeys and neotropical animals.

BUT LOOK NOW WE GOT CHICKENS AND COWS, WHAT A GRAND FINALE FOR A ZOO GAME!

That is the one part of zoos i always skip.

Idk maybe i'm used to farm animals since i live in a country and in a region where i see them often and have friends that have fields for cattle breeding and stuff. But when i go to a zoo i couldn't care less about goats and chickens. I'm there to watch wild animals.

I'm with u here, maybe a little less agressively ao today than yesterday, but i have given up hope for more DLCs and specially for SA content. I feel like Frontier just hates this region of the world and has some weird obsesion with South East Asia and more understandable but also a bias towards Europe.

What about exotic farm animals? You can't hate that Highland cow or a longhorn. They have faces everybody loves

I dunno, maybe somebody's mad that Argentina won the world cup...
But honestly, and this is my personal opinion: what if they skipped South America because they really do plan a final DLC, one with a few more animals and maybe some more build pieces. They already know how much SA has been requested, and the devs have always fulfilled requests, some sooner than later. What if SA falls in the same boat?

Of course we'll never know, which is why I say wait for the stream tomorrow, but still, the devs knew how divisive farm animals were to begin with, so I highly doubt they'd assume the entire community would be happy with this pack, especially after the whole "y'all gonna be happy with PlanZo's future."
There's so much going for potential further packs (and lack of) that's it really goes both ways

Yeah same here, I live in the countryside where I can see highland cows, sheep, pigs every single day and never actually bother visiting these animals when I'm at a zoo (that actually has them) BUT I'm still extremely excited to see these animals ingame and build for them when I get the chance. I distanced myself from the whole realism side argument of the roster long ago when I viewed planet zoo as a casual game not this virtual perfect zoo simulator.

Yes, but... how many zoos have these breeds specifically? And not the breeds that actually saw some people vote for them?

I think I'd be able to swallow it a lot easier if not for the specific breeds they chose.

I can deal with the highland cattle, between that and the Eurasian wildcat I was keen on something for Scotland anyway since I build there a lot, but the goat, pig, and sheep are stupid when better choices were right there for the taking.

Interestingly both this and the last DLC (Eurasia) are the ones that haven't grown on me at all.

I lost the whole realism side argument of the roster long ago when I viewed planet zoo as a casual game not this virtual perfect zoo simulator.
I don't really see how 'realism' is relevant here since I think everyone can agree petting zoo animals are if nothing else a realistic thing to put in a zoo. And the argument is still fine anyway, since Frontier does care about realism where it doesn't conflict with gameplay.

I'm just glad nobody is badmouthing the burro:

Love these guys, always wanted one

In the new pack sure, but otherwise i cant see this at all
Europe, Twilight, Eurasia.

In the latter we got the boar, the swan, the wisent, the wolverine, the hermanns tortoise. In Twilight the red fox. Anniversary red deer.

I'm not complaining about any of these inclusion (i didn't really needed the wisent at all but i understand why it was important) but they all came in the middle of the on going discussion of not having good enough southamerican representation and so on. And at the time we were also not sure if it was or not the last DLC.

I think all five were important and necessary to "complete" Europe but i think there is some bias because they decided to Focus those resources on expanding the Europe roster instead of investing them in monkeys, birds and southamerican animals.

Like i said though i'm not complaining about their inclusión. The red deer and the swan are some of my favorite animals in the game. But Europe was prioritize over something else late in the game's life.

But again that bias is understandable being an European company and wanting to being representation to that continent that is usually ignored in most zoo games.

And now with this farm pack 4 out of 7 animals are from the UK. So it reinforces my opinion on this.
