Planet Zoo: Oceania Pack arriving 19 Sep 🐧

I'm really excited for this pack. Knocks out 2 of my top 10, another out of my top 25 and one sort-of oddball, that we often get in a pack. Less excited that it definitely seems exhibit birds are not going to be a thing, but I can't fault the pack for this alone.

Mixed feelings for me TBH.

I'm very happy about the update and the Tasmanian Devil. The tassie was very high on my personal wishlist for so long and it looks phenomenal 😍 I'm also happy we are getting a flying fox.

On the other hand, I can't help being a little disappointed by the other animals. I've said many times I couldn't care less about the kiwi. (Nothing against the animal in itself but there are so many birds we need more than another ratite that is not common in zoos). For a third penguin, I would have liked a rockhopper or macaroni penguin more. They look more unique to me and they could have shared an exhibit with the king penguin. I really wanted to build a mixed penguin exhibit someday and now I doubt we will ever get a 4th penguin. And the quokka... Well, it's cute and I will probably warm up to it but it's not common in zoos and I really wanted a tree kangaroo and now I feel like we might never get one.

So, yeah, this is definitely not my favorite DLC. But I know some people here will love everything about it just as I did with the Arid pack. We have to accept the fact that we don't all feel the same and that Frontier needs to speak to everyone. I know that and it's fine. I'm gonna keep being happy about the Tassie and wait to see more about the scenery pieces. I hope there will be a lot of good stuff in there.

Also, the fact we're back to regional packs makes me hopeful for the future. I might be wrong but it makes me feel like we will get more content next year. What do you think?

However heated the debates may be regarding the presence of fauna from Europe in the PZ, it is already becoming obvious that the other continents already have their representative animals present in the game. I know, many will jump to argue that there are enough clones for European species and that European species are much too "boring" to be a priority, but as long as for Oceania we have come to have niche species in game, extremely rarely present in zoos other than those in Australia or New Zealand, Europe has no nominal defining species. Wild boar, European brown bear, Wisent, Roe deer, Mouflon, Chamois are emblematic species for Europe, which are present in 99% of zoos in this Continent and cannot be replaced by clones.
It is true that, from time to time, an emblematic animal from Europe has been sneaked into the last DLCs, but, apart from the animals characteristic of northern Europe that it shares with North America, the central area is still poorly represented in the game with distinctly representative species, compared to other continents, even South America. Perhaps only Central and North Asia has such a poor representation in the game. As most of the gamers are from the northern hemisphere, the fascination for niche species from the southern hemisphere is justifiable.
I have not the slightest interest in Polynesian architecture after the Indonesian one, given that such architecture is not present in most zoos in Europe or North America. With the absolutely niche species from Oceania, Frontier is clearly choosing the path of exaggerated exoticism, when a player from Europe still cannot build a local normal zoo with nominally specific species, but only using clones.
It's time for me to leave the game for good.

So relieved we reached 10 birds before support ended. Now let's go for another 10, shall we?

Haven't been this positive-minded about a pack's composition in a long time, even though it was another missed opportunity for a small exhibit bird. But as long as we keep getting more birds one way or another, it is alright I guess.

Well done, Frontier! You did a great job on this one!

After all these years of longing, sitting through DLC speculation thread after DLC speculation thread, the devil-shaped hole in my heart has finally been filled.

As always prophesised, my favourite animal in the game, instantly.

So:
Tasmanian devil: Beautiful animal, like top notch quality, was super high on my wishlist 10/10

Kiwi: Also super nice animal, finally another bird, and while its another ratite its atleast very different from the ostrich and rest 9/10

Little blue penguin: Wasnt really dying for another penguin, but as far as a "mandatory clone animal" for an OCE pack this is one of the better ones, weakest member of the habitat roster for me, happy for everyone who wanted them tho. 5/10

Quokka: Little conflicted about this one, on the one hand im happy australia finally has a small filler type animal, but on the other hand i would have really prefered the tree kangaroo, definetely the oddball of the pack, still cool tho 7/10

Spectacled flying fox: Yeah this one is a bit of a stinker for me, nothing really against another bat but budgies and lorikeets were right there..., from the short clip ive seen it looks like its just a reskin of the fruit bat which is a bit of a bummer, i hope they atleast have a cool exhibit and a few new animations/enrichment options. Definetely prefer this over the potential orchid mantis but its hard for me to be excited about this one. 4/10

Scenery: Hard to tell from the short trailer but definetely looks like there are some cool pieces in there, really loving a new rock set.

Overall: Pretty great Pack! Couple animals that i would have picked over the penguin and to a lesser degree the quokka, but u will never get a perfect roster, happy to finally see some love for a very underrepresented region. Im happy we get 2 new birds in one pack, but they are another ratite and penguin which we already had a couple of, so no birds in the WE again still hurts. Would put this at a very good 7-8/10

This new pack looks great!

We finnaly get two bird species and the community's most requested animal, the Tasmanian devil! We will still miss the WE birds, but regardless, the new DLC promises to be good.

Also, the Frontier returned to the continent/region based DLCs. I would be happy to see Central America or even a South Asia/India DLC!

The Oceania pack is cool! Thanks Frontier! :)

Like almost all DLC and data updates that are announced I feel a mixture of happiness mixed with strong disapproval.

In this case the joy is certainly that of being able to use the "Viewing Domes", it will be fantastic to use that, and brachiation for the orangutan...rating 9 for these introductions.

As for the pieces of the scenery, I won't expose myself, given that little has been seen, perhaps something interesting will emerge in addition to the usual set of beams or poles...Plants and flowers are obviously always welcome, the more there are, the more the better, also in the latest DLCs the quality of these has significantly increased.

The sore points once again concern the roster of animals: only 5 for a regional thematic DLC, but I'm used to this by now.

TASMANIAN DEVIL:
highly sought after in the wishes of forum users, I like it a lot too, a nice addition, iconic animal of the area and quite particular, rating 8.

QUOKKA:
I don't know the position on the wish list, it is definitely not common in zoos, I really like it, very cute and friendly, and a unique species, rating 8.

KIWI:
another highly sought after animal on the wish list, personally I don't love it very much, an iconic animal, one of a kind, but its presence in zoos is almost nil I suppose, above all it is a bird which unfortunately does not fly, a very painful point in this game . The features seem almost perfect to me, but I would have made the choice to add him to the game later and I only rated 6 for this.

BLUE PENGUIN:
although this is also a cute and friendly animal and reproduced in an excellent manner from what little I have been able to see, it represents the classic clone that Frontier prepares for each DLC. If I want to make a zoo in that area of the world there could be room, but in any case in the zoos I've visited in Europe no one has more than one species of penguin in their roster, but let's be serious... In a game where we already have 2 Was it necessary to include a third species of penguin when in fact there are many types of animals that are still underrepresented? Super speculative pick by Frontier, rating 0

SPECTACLED FLYING FOX:
also in this case, as for the penguin, Frontier does not deny itself and offers another clone, which I repeat, although I like it a lot and stylistically well done, but do you want to insert animals that we don't have into the game first? Was it necessary to include another bat species now instead of exploring new possibilities? To give an example, I'm sure that if one day there will be a DLC on the Amazon (another sore point of the game), Frontier will offer another sloth or other butterflies or maybe even better a vampire bat. Rating 2, just because it's particularly cute .

I had seen and heard many people talking about Tree Kangaroo and Lorikket, even YouTubers who perhaps have contacts with insiders and I was deluding myself too, I would have been very happy, but today I returned to the harsh reality, for the umpteenth time happiness cut short, for the umpteenth time clones and for the umpteenth time no flying birds, in a DLC where they rightfully should have been.

Overall rating for the DLC between 5 and 6.

Am I really the only one who was absolutely certain it wasn't going to be a lorikeet?
Honestly it seems like it, as much as I knew I shouldn’t of got my hopes up, there were so many signs that made it seem like they were coming. Overall I love this pack though, hopefully we get two or more birds in the next pack!

Ooh, honestly a really superb little pack all 4 habitat animals are really solid choice,

A little disappointed in the Bat vs some of the really cool Bird options Oceania gives like Cockatoo, Kookaburra, Bird of Paradise or I'iwi, but I don't have anything against it either!

The scenery in this pack looks STUNNING. It’ll greatly compliment the Tropical Pack scenery in my Islands Passage area of my zoo.

I really see the appeal of this pack to lots of players, and although not personally my favourite roster of animals, I can see that this will make a LOT of people VERY happy.

Funnily enough, the flying fox is the animal I’m most excited for. Though I’d have loved lorikeets, the flying fox is a fantastic unexpected addition, which always end up being my favourite additions in every pack.

The overall theming of this pack is EXCELLENT, with a very well thought out selection of animals. Very very impressed yet again!!!

I'm really disappointed that in an Oceania pack; we get a flying fox instead of the Lorikeets or ANY Other FLYING bird it should be.
Yeah we get 2 birds whooptiydoo. We get another penguin, when penguins were already represented fine. And the Kiwi, which is represented in very very few zoo's globally.

Seriously, why no Lorikeets. It's even absolutely perfect for the walkthrough concept. In almost every zoo they have them here, they are a walkthrough exhibit animal.

I'm so very disappointed that even the Tazzy can't make this right for me. Though I'm holding out hope for the building pieces.

First of all, Congrats to the devs! Once again I'm pretty happy with the overall look of the pack. The building set looks nice, I'm specially excited for the new plank path and the lava pieces 🌋 and I hope the new map is a real island 🤞 as I've wanted a map surrounded by water since the Euro DLC gave us the boat entrance.

I think it has a very solid roster, even though this is the first DLC without not a single species in any of my hometown zoos (!) and I preferred rockhopper penguin over the little blue (or any small Antarctic penguin, but that wouldn't be Oceanian pack). But they are representative species from this area and fill some important empty areas in the map.

My only point of dissapointment is the WE species. Not because I expected a bird (even though I think that's the number 1 thing the game needs), as I know they can only come to the game in a dedicated DLC. Not because I don't like the flying fox, as I think a second bat is a nice option, and I'll be using it as much as any other WE animal. But because all the iconic small animals (specially reptiles) from Oceania that could have been in a classic small exhibit, and the game is severely lacking: New Caledonia geckos, frilled lizard, thorny devil lizard, tuatara, coconut crab, weta cricket, walking stick insects... 🦎🦗🦀
