🐾 Planet Zoo - Update 1.2 coming 7 April 🐾

TBH as much as I like all those amazing, creative themes, at this point I'd much rather have a behind the scenes pack so we can (more easily) build realistic zoos with actual stables, holding areas etc. than yet another theme park zoo building set. Please don't get me wrong, like I said I really like the themes and what we can do with the pieces, but I just feel like those are more fitting for PC than PZ and I'd really like PZ to get pieces that are way more integral to an actual, realistc zoo first before they added more of the other sets.
This.
Obviously anything new will be very welcome but we definetely need zoo-utilitarian building pieces and scenery.

Regarding all these hints pointing towards a new DLC, I think it's safe to say it'll be heavily based in a rainforest area. I might be too picky but it'd be a bit disapointing if we get a general Rainforest or a general South American DLC rather than a 'South American Rainforest' or 'Amazon' one. This way it'd mean we could potentially have 'Andes', 'Southeast Asia Rainforest' and so on separately in the future.
Worldwide rainforest fauna and South American fauna are too diverse to condense them into just 4-6 animals.

Don't get me wrong, I'll be happy with whatever Frontier realeases since they're great at what they do, but I think the game could lose some potential if such general DLCs are developed.

I don’t mind general packs as long as in the long run we get lots of them! I wouldn’t assume that a general tropical jungle pack now means we won’t ever get more jungle animals.

Very exciting updates to come :)

"Whether animals get bored of enrichment items (Hard Difficulty only)."
Does that mean the option will or won't be available for sandbox? Really wanna be able to turn this off for sandbox :)

Same. For me, I hope they use a variety of different pack "types" to further 'flesh out' the overall variety of flora and fauna.

For example: If we get an Amazon pack now with some animals? We could see a less specific region packs in the future (e.g., "Tropical rainforest") or animal type-specific packs (e.g., a "small cats" pack with an ocelot or whatever).

I so agree with you... I'm zookeeper and I find the game extraordinary. But for me the black point is the lack of realism for night houses. Barriers for boxes, doors, hatches are missing... It would be really nice if the shelters the animals need were the buildings...

Of course it's the only thing I miss... I can't wait to see the new extension !!

First of all thanks for the upcoming update, great news for all of us.

Will we also be getting more sandbox mode options such as No Littering, No Damage to ATM etc. The option for feeding bowls etc. Always full, or the option for keepers to always fill all.

If possiblecould the disable Animal Aging and Animal Birth be seperated so Animals can get born but stay a baby until you turn aging back on ?

Also still something that is missing is the little barrier ribbon from planet coaster which was used a lot to hide underground to stop people from walking through things like fountains or lamp posts, we been asking since launch to please port that over as it is really missing in the game.

And for the animal market let us manually refresh please so we dont have to buy animals we dont want just to get a fresh new listing.

Also the option to just disable misplaced educational items would be great, because a lot of us like to have some of the screens at like our entrance to display what animals we currently have in the zoo or have education zones and then we get constantly the warning about them being misplaced now we can turn it off but then we turn off more then just warnings about educational signs so please seperate that part.

Hmmm. Not so keen on this update to be honest. I’d rather a zoo game focussed on animals, learning about conservation and discovering nature and this doesn’t feel consistent with that. But let’s see what comes next.

This decor with arrows coming out of the wall make me think more of a coaster park than a zoo...

I'm feeling the same way about all of this teasing. Frankly, I kinda hope the whole "arrows coming out of the wall" thing is just something they're doing to tease the animals and such that will be in the new DLC pack. This game needs far more animals, foliage, etc. before they start delving into DLC that's focused on guest attractions.

At this point I'm pretty sure it's less about the stuff we see along the way (I think most of those pieces are actually in the game already 🧐) and much more about whatever's at the end of it.

My guess/hopes: they'll get out of the Indy-Temple ruin and stumble into some kind of hidden jungle paradise, full of exotic animals and tropical foliage. At least that's what would make the most sense for a PZ dlc if you asked me.

I hope in the upcoming patch there is also a fix for the extreme lag when closing the barrier, habitat, nature, facilities, construction and blueprints screens because right now it takes a long freeze before its finally closed.

As for the screenshots which looks like upcoming dlc I hope we get to see some nice birds and other exotic animals added to the game.

I'm extremely grateful to the team behind Planet Zoo and Frontier as a whole, for having created such an amazing game, that so many of us have enjoyed, and continue to do so. I do however have to ask, while it is very likely that the pictures shown are not an accurate representation of what is to come, has frontier changed their direction and focus with this game? Are the Planet Zoo representatives that are posting this content, the same individuals that were involved with the base game? The most captivating aspect of this game for me, besides its realism, top notch content and endless creative possibilities is Frontier's focus on real life zoo simulation. There is however some concern, that either by their own making or in an effort to make the game more appealing to a different segment of players, there priorities could have shifted. I have read a number of threads in this forum as well as others, where a percentage of the participants just wanted some of the animals and building pieces to be added to Planet Coaster, others wanted dinosaurs and mythical creatures. One individual even asked for a Game of Thrones DLC that contained Direwolves, Ravens and Dragons. My understanding about the game and all its aspects however, is that it is based and focused on modern Zoo design and simulation, allowing for players to encounter a variety of challenges during realistic zoo focused gameplay.

Let me explain, the base game release was fantastic in my opinion, a solid entry, that thru years of support has the potential of becoming anyone's dream zoo simulation game. Then came the Arctic DLC, and it was a strange choice of scenery, with the Scandinavian theme and a very limited number of animals. While the quality of design was again exceptional, and the animals featured continued being the best of their kind in the video game market, there was something off. Having visited many world renown zoos in Northern Europe, I have to say that I had never seen this connection in any of them between this choice of theme and nature. I'm no stranger to thematic design and the concept of including native geographical architecture within a zoo exhibit. There were a number of possibilities, construction pieces and scenery that Planet Zoo's developers could have brought to live within an Arctic DLC, their choice however was heavily focused on Vikings and Christmas ornaments. Do not misunderstand me Frontier, if you read this, the DLC was of high quality, but your choice was questionable mostly because there was so much still needed in the game. The most appropriate theme for a Northern European DLC in relation to zoos, would probably feature a somewhat modern design that the game already included (in a limited capacity) or a wooden marina theme that just does not fit the bill with the current roster of animals. Because of these reasons, I did not think too much of it, especially since the DLC had been fairly close to the base game release. This upcoming DLC however, (not even officially announced yet) will take place more than likely over 5 months since the base game release, so there is a great urgency for concern.

The storyline being featured as a teaser has me in all fairness somewhat confused, what does Jungle adventures, Indiana Jones and deadly traps have to do with modern zoo conservation and realism. The direction of Planet Zoo has either completely changed, or there are members of the planet zoo team that do not share the understanding and education level of what this game could actually mean and do. I have said it in this forum many times, there are so many fantasy and adventure games out in the market, way too many to mention. More importantly there is already a sensational theme park/adventure/fantasy game on the market, that allows players to use the same mechanics of this game to built the worlds of their dreams, and it is called Planet Coaster. There is however only one modern zoo simulation game in the world as of this moment. Please Frontier, do not deviate from what this game can be, stay focus of its original concept. It is my hope that the ones in charge of this game are truly passionate about zoos, and educate themselves in what they truly represent. The game can be extremely profitable and popular given the correct approach and marketing while still focused on realistic zoo simulation, construction and management.

While I would love a jungle or South-American temple theme, I agree with all of the previous post that the traps do not belong in a realistic zoo.
I would love some realistic behind the scenes pieces and educational pieces, I find myself looking for those on the workshop the most.

I have mixed feelings on the entire genetic mechanic of this game. I like the addition of the genealogy and I like to focus on trying to find suitable mates, but... here is my problem...
I find that the game gives players a completely wrong impression of what breeding programs try to achieve. Zoos (good ones at least) will avoid selectively breeding for bigger size, coat patterns and '100% genes', ... etc. (With the exception of genes linked to diseases) Zoos strive to maintain genetic diversity, this would include all genes from your '0-100%' spectrum .The game motivates the players to go for 100% genes all the time; which for a game that markets itself as caring about conservation is not giving the players the right message.

Devs or Community managers there seem to be a problem with the Issue Tracker as its impossible to fill in anything on the reproduction steps field, no matter what you type no text gets in there.

I came across a game called Tom Clancy's The Division 2, it is an action role playing video game, and while it has nothing to do with zoos and conservation, there is map within the game set in a fictional National Zoo, and Oh my, the realism is exactly what Frontier needs. They should look into hiring the artist behind the creation of this map, Loic Petrier, he is actually located in the United Kingdom. Anyone here interested in actual zoo props, animal holding night quarters and a multitude of items that we do not currently have in Planet Zoo, should take the time to watch the videos of this Zoo map in YouTube, it is just spectacular.
