Planet Zoo: Wetlands Animal Pack and Update 1.9 Out Now! 🦦

There's a new Hat? Can you show a Screenshot? Can't play currently
There's now a red crowned crane hat :)

So I'm a bit late to the party, but now enjoying the pack and update as well! The quality of the animals is pretty on point again, and I'm in love with the capybaras under their water tap! I think capybara, otter and crane will become top species in most of my zoos. I also like the platypus a lot, although it will be a challenge to build for them. And even the buffallo is pretty amazing. A bit more indifferent towards lechwe and caiman, but their models are great as well.
The roaming educators are also a very welcome addition, as are those many quality of life improvements regarding the management/UI. Still figuring out the new terrain tool...

Fixed an issue where temperature bounds were not accurate in specific biomes, resulting in some animals not being able to cope with excessive heat or cold in their native biomes. The majority of animals should now not need heater or cooler support when placed in a zoo of their native biome, barring a few intentional exceptions where species have a noted problem in coping heat or cold (i.e. Moose)
This seems to have led to the Tundra Maps no longer being covered in snow. Can we get some confirmation on if this was an international consequence of fixing this issue or just a mistake? Some of us are being badly affected by this, and it would at least be nice to know if we just have to live with that or if it will be looked into.

For me, There are multiple reasons why I loathed “tegidcam”.

1. Not everybody reads forums. Really, believe it or not - some players just want to play the game, without researching obscure hacks in the internet.
2. Because “tegidcam” was a hack. An easter egg. A fun addition to the game for the adepts, but nothing for the casual player.
3. It was hard to remember. What does “tegid” even mean? I don’t remember, how often I had to look it up in the internet until I finally remembered. (Maybe there is an obvious English memory hook. But English is not my mother tongue.)
4. I don’t want a staff member run around named weirdly.

And 5. and final: No, building was not possible in this mode.

So, while I doubt there is or was any “hype” around this option, I am very happy that the dev team finally made the “Personal Mode” an officially supported game feature, easily available for everyone.

Thank you very much, Frontier! :)

I don't understand the aggression in your post.

In fact, I wasn't dismissing the new explore mode, I am happy it was added and like I said, I find it useful for building. My impression was that this feature was a bit overhyped from the reactions I've seen here and on reddit. But that is just my opinion, I am not here to police anyone's excitement and it was certainly not my intent with the original post. I am very happy for everyone who has wished for it! ❤️

I remember early on in the game's lifecycle, being told constantly that smaller species (meerkats, otters) wouldn't work in the game because they were too small. Well, we can safely say that is now patently false. Haha. I do feel like, early on, Frontier definitely skewed toward providing bigger animals but I'm glad that's changed.

Because you're right! These smaller species all breathe new life into the game and help us to fill-in gaps between the bigger habitats in exciting ways. And I want to emphasize the "exciting" there because I really am ecstatic about the otters, foxes, beavers, capybara, meerkats, and prairie dogs all being in the game! They're super fun to build for and add versatility to the game. Nevermind the fact that we're at a point where - if you wanted - you could build a pretty substantial "small mammal" house in multiple zoos and not have the same exact species in each. I'm really excited about it all!

Question though: What do you mean by "black and white friend"?

I didn't "loathe" tegidcam but... This new mode is much easier and provides more functionality because you can now edit your zoo in tight spaces, get a quick sense of nightlines, etc. This is a nice little quality of life improvement for me.

Nothing game changing, but I'm not sure why anybody is scoffing at it. Being able to press a button anywhere in your zoo and get right to it is much easier than finding and moving around a staff member.

Just to clarify, I am not scoffing at this new feature and that was certainly not my intent.

Two thumbs WAY up for this update! I gave up on PZ after the launch and came back recently. My first attempts had some serious issues - partly caused by bugs, partly by what I suspect was one or more bad mods, partly just due to my not understanding some game mechanics. After the additions and fixes with update 1.9 and getting rid of all mods (which I will never try again) and getting some help, tips, and inspiration from some amazing YouTubers I am now able to play this game smoothly. I am having soooo much fun! Oh - also LOVE the explore mode camera, I just feel so much more immersed in the zoo when I use this after a few hours of building. It would be nice to be able to make turns like a guest would but this is WAY better than tegidcam! Thank you so much, Frontier!

Seriously guys? I really, really want to enjoy all these amazing, water loving animals we have in the game now but I just can't because this game breaking bug is still not fixed and it's been over a year! This bug has been around ever since deep diving was added to the game and the animals keep happily swimming through anything that isn't solid terrain to this day.

Case in point my Caiman just now:

Please fix this! It makes underwater viewing areas and any habitat including part of a larger body of water impossible to build unless you wanna deal with constant escapes.

This bug is so prevalent but I have luckily never once encountered it. I hope it does get fixed, people have been talking about it for ages.

🤔 I really wonder if there's anything specific that causes this. I only know that a small Enclosure with many Animals can cause it to happen with King Penguins. Except the Penguins I think I've only encountered this Problem in my Marine Park with Grey Seals (relatively often) and Saltwater Crocodiles (rarely). Any Theories so far what could cause it for those other Animals?

It's indeed an underwater tunnel, but it's made using the underwater tunnel trick that's been known for a while now. You can see it in the trailer too, in the back the guests are walking on a staircase, so it uses the tunneling trick. :)
I was aware of the trick, but still surprised Frontier's official media are using it. It doesn't seem to be an intentional feature, but it would be great to have something like that easier accessible.

From my experience? As soon as they go into the diving/deep swimming animation any barrier except terrain isn't recognized anymore and they just keep on swimming no matter what. It's also definitely not the group size as I had it happen with single animals as well.

It can be caused by too many Penguins in a too small Space. Was always able to temporarily fixing it by removing Penguins until it were too many again. It's also never happening in my Game except in the Penguin Situation and sometimes the Seals and Crocodiles in my Marine Park, so there is probably something specific that causes it

Never experienced this glitch, personally. Instead I get animals stuck in their treading water animations until I box and unbox them. Maybe it’s a similar issue though, of not having enough space to dive properly?

I've gotta walk back some of my earlier misgivings about the spectacled caiman. It's actually a great animal.

So I guess what I'll say instead is that "I wish the spectacled caiman had been in the Aquatic Pack instead of the Cuvier's dward caiman, and that something else had been in the Wetlands Pack". I still think we're oversaturated with crocodilians, but the spectacled caiman is actually a perfect size for smaller habitats. The dwarf caiman is super hard to build realistically for (unpopular hot take but it should have been an exhibit animal - in a bigger exhibit, sure, but still).
