Planet Zoo | ZooKeepers Animal Pack Announcement

And finally on Tuesday:

"Today our senior art director shares concept art of the Geoffroy's Spider Monkey, which was originally planned for the Zookeeper's Animal Pack in the early stages. Coming never."
"As well as the South American Coati, which didn't make it past the concept art due to general lack of interest."

"We also planned 5 macaws for Walk Through Exhibits, but the idea never took flight. Just like all the birds in the game."

Part of me feels bad, as the people running social media and making this dlc is most likely a skeleton crew. So understand my issues are less with the hard working Devs, and more of the situation with the management and Frontier as a whole.

“Swinging from branch to branch” makes me wonder if this was actually gonna be a spider monkey, but nope, it’s the sifaka. Who not only isn’t named in the tweet, but is moving in a way it really physically can’t.

I get it’s hard, cause we are hyper focused animal nerds. But man, this feels like PZ is ending with a resounding “neat” instead of a “bang”.

I‘ve been watching this thread for soms days and have been collecting and organising my thoughts a little….
I‘m definitely not disappointed with this pack, animals like the Baboon, Pallas Cat and Markhor are actually quite exciting to me. Not my favourite pack, absolutely not the worst one either. But these things have been said 1000x already so I‘ll spare you the details on this and get on with the other thing I want to express:
This pack (and also the Barnyard Pack) feel so weird to me, and I don‘t mean this in reference to their actual content, but how they were introduced to the community by Frontier. Especially with the newest pack, everything seems so… emotionless, so stale and corporation-like, if that makes any sense. Compare the ZKAP‘s rollout to how the Eurasia expansion was handled - We get one or two little paragraphs for each animal, but with the latter, we had this whole cute story of seeing them in the wild, venturing around the continent, this notion only being strengthened by the special livestream held for the dlc‘s announcement where iirc we were trying to capture video footage of the animals that were being added. And I know many people didn‘t enjoy these little things, but for me (and I‘d wager many others as well), it upheld the vibes and the tone the game was representing - PZ will always be my comfort game and these things made it feel like the management around was also comfortable and nice and cute and friendly. I know that in the end it was just well executed marketing, but I really don‘t care because I feel it missing with how this game is handled currently - Tim and Jens and Fran and Lydiah and Eltanin and all others were such a wonderful team, and now I couldn‘t even tell you the names of the CMs currently working on Planet Zoo. And I know that‘s not the CMs‘ fault at all - PC2 is probably their biggest focus right now and it‘s probably also really hard to integrate into a community for a game that‘s
1. already been running for more than 4 years and whose previous CMs had a fairly strong identity and (at least from what I‘ve gathered) pretty positive reception by the community
2. going to have its support elapse in just a few weeks
but I just really feel the game has lost a piece of its soul. Like. you guys are all still there, the big and small youtubers are all still there and I fully appreciate that, but after losing the old Communications team, I‘m just not as enthusiastic as before. Maybe that‘s just nostalgia tho.

I think Frontier is on something, like why the Sifaka, I know it's been said a million times but WHY PICK A SIFAKA, honestly I think it will have plenty of new and unique animations but I feel that sense it got a song a Echidna would have worked better as the NWM spot stealer, or we could just get a NWM. A Sifaka can't move like that, Why show that animation. I don't want to be angry but I just can't handle the thought of giving us such a unique and obscure species and even remotely having it be half-hearted by giving them animations that can't be done in real life. Honestly I'd they replaced the Sifaka with a Echidna, NWM, Coati, Secretary Bird, Tree Kangaroo, Pelican, or even something a little obscure like a freshwater turtle, Burrowing Owl, or Langur I would be much happier, hopefully they put some love into this animal but I already lost interest in it over the Tortoise, Dik-Dik, and Baboon.

With that said thanks for all you do PZ team, just wish you picked a different animal

Tree kangaroo... What if we got the tree kangaroo but it's just a wallaby clone that has the basic climbing animations to it. I don't know if one of the most anticipated animals would be worth getting in a pack like this.
Well at least we would have had a more popular animal, don't get me wrong I would hate that with a burning passion, but at least is such a popular request it's a tiny bit more understandable, but why half-ass such a obscure yet iconic pick like the Sifaka, well I know why, BUT WHY!!!

Honestly seeing how most of the animals in the this pack seem to be made in a rush i'm kind of glad that none of them is one of my beloved South American animals lol i rather get the modded versions. Modders will probably put more love into those animals than Frontier at this point haha
Well we still could have seen a White-Faced Whistling Duck, Pudu, SA Tapir, Squirrel Monkey, Greater Rhea, etc that don't require complex rigs. With that said I do agree I would hate for the coati to be a Racoon clone or for the Howler Monkey to only get one new vocalization animation and then be a Capuchin clone

Well, tomorrow we will see how bad they (si)faka'd up.

All animals I have seen so far before the Sifaka looked like they are very good quality. I will judge the Sifaka only after I have seen it in motion. No difference to earlier Packs in my opinion. One animal had always a "controversial" Look.

It's sad to say, and I won't point out the few people still working on this game more to Frontier in general. But this DLC, and the Sifaka is a great example, is the ultimate middle finger, and the event I was needed to put behind my adventure on this game. I lost interest with Frontier, their strategy, and their products. I am sad but at some point I feel like grieving and simply moving on this ride.
Hopefully Sid Meiers won't disappoint me this winter... cause I need some video games x)

All of them, except the bear, look wrong or half fineshed or like someone mentioned, like they belong to early packs rather than the latest ones. The fur on the male baboon looks nothing like the beautiful mantle they have in real life over their shoulders, the male markhor face looks weird (eyes too big, too cartoony) and when you compare it to the mod that was made long ago you can see the clear difference in quality (with the mod looking better), the cat is just a cartoon, face looks nothing like a true Palla's cat and now the sifaka... which yeah i'll refrain to commenting more on it until seeing it ingame.

I'm sure the tortoise will look great though lol

Yeah i feel that.
I mean i get that Planet Coaster 2 is a very important to Frontier but it just feels to me like it sucked all the life out of PZ and im very much starting to resent it for it.
Like instead of cherishing and celebrating one of their most successful games ending on one last Hooray it just feels like they are just throwing something out just to be done with it. I wasnt a big fan of this pack from the start, but the more i see of it the more dissapointing it gets.
PZ will forever be my favorite game, but this is quickly turning out to not be a bitter sweet ending but just a bitter one
