Please commit to rerolling the planets...

...It has been stated on stream that FD want to avoid rerolling the planets. This thread's purpose is to encourage a wave of voices to cry 'please reroll the planets!'

Planets should have been kept as they were until it was verified that every planet was an upgrade in terms of either usability, visuals, or realism. They didn't need to be perfect, they just needed to be 'not objectively worse' than what we had. I'm aware that a few planet types are working correctly and are impressive. Unfortunately, there are too many with some kind of fundamental issues (canyons on Ariel, best in game, completely gone, surface detail issues like the shot below, 'inkstamped' features on planetary surfaces that tile and repeat, just at different angles...

Gaining a few EXTREMELY lackluster atmospheric effects and a handful of new planets to land on was not worth the cost, imo. I don't hate FD, I'm not uninstalling the game, I'm not raging. Although I'm not playing it at the moment either, I believe this can all be fixed and I believe FD can do it, but I'm concerned by the statement that they do not currently wish to reroll the planets.

Please consider taking every opportunity to tell them the planets aren't good enough, in the hopes that we get a more serious revisiting of the generation algo, and some of the most important locations retain their unique character (Ariel, and others).

wth is this (2080ti, 1440p, ultra)?

The planets may not need rerolling. They did changes to the old planet tech, changing the depths of canyons and the height of mountains without the need to reroll.

We will have to wait and see.

You put down landing gear, gravity does the rest. Its not complicated unless you make it that way.
Yes, I am wondering why they did not give us some kind of skimmer type vehicle to roam planetary surfaces. Then it would not matter how rough they are.

Also, when it comes to landing why not have the option to use the auto land that a ship has when you do a recall or just to drop the SRV from a certain height.

It always amuses me that the SRV exits from the rear of the ship though, it looks like the the ship has sh?tted you out.

Rerolling is an interesting suggestion because it assumes that there is some kind of a state where this "new planet tek" does not suck.

Re-rolling won't help. That's why they are silent about anything planet-related. nu tek sucks and everyone knows it, but to fix it is almost starting from scratch, something they are not willing nor have the funds to do.

Indeed, 99% of Horizons bodies are dull & uninteresting too - I know, I've visited literally thousands!
Odyssey has its own ills - I don't know that a re-roll, whatever that is supposed to infer, will magically 'fix' things to anyone's liking... but it is a good drum to bang.

Once the issues are fixed, however that may be, I fully expect 99% of the Odyssey generated bodies to be dull & uninteresting too...
Exploration in Horizon was exposure to a limited variability of surface shapes and colour ranges, with a lot of artificial oddities introduced by the mathematical nature of the proc. gen, but overall not really that much more variability.

Odyssey hasmore variability and more realistic looking landscapes overall, but also a whole new range of issues.

We can only keep reminding FD of the new issues and help outlining them.

I found a Metal Rich body last year - 137 KM diameter, so popped back in Odyssey - it had turned into a potato, very uneven shape with 'interesting' features at the poles but pretty bland around the middle bit.

I landed and had a drive around, too hot to disembark, but was possible at the terminator, so out for a 1st and quick selfie... The terminator moves quite quickly, so was roasted before being able to get back to, and into, the SRV. All for Science, of course :ROFLMAO:

Mmm pork roast. Rubbernuke would approve.

My current exploration is about visiting blasts from the past as well. Ice planets have really gotten an upgrade, and I don’t miss the excessive canyons of the past.
