Nope - its the street! Law of the jungle out here. We mix our metaphors any way we please - deal with it

The consequences for murder should be more serious for ganking harmless newbies with superior ships. The Elite federation sanctions are a good in-universe tool to effect this.
Yeah, the negative response against proponents of PvP interaction are way over blown. A few that get griefed by it just make tons of noise, and then some feel like they need to defend their right to do it :-/I've been playing in open for the past week BEGGING to get interdicted by something other than an inept computer and it has yet to happen. And if I lose my ship I get it back, no big deal.
Exactly, Frontier should write some new rules into that Pilot Federation now that we have OPEN play. We have the systems in place, we just have to execute them.
Some of us don't want an Arena Dog-fight Simulator. We just want the PvP between Pirates, Traders, and Bounty Hunters to happen naturally once in a while like it does with NPCs. How about instead of trying to neuter OPEN play even more by trying to remove PvP, we just make certain crimes against other CMDRs more severe with higher bounties. I'm pretty sure most people against PvP aren't really against legit Pirates trying to make a buck, but the murderers who stomp Harmless players in their freshly respawned Sidewinders.
That's true, giving the police more teeth in certain systems would be a good place to start.Consequences for murder in in civilized space should be high regardless, with a quick response from the feds. Otherwise it breaks immersion. There should be stricter safe zones. That being said I want someone to try and attack me. I'll consider them a pirate and part of the game.
Want to be a criminal? Fine, but either pay off the bounties or deal with people like Araviel coming after you.

I kind of like the GTA V approach.. if you gank a players car.. "YOU" pay the insurance for replacement. Now that would be an interesting twist.. you kill a ship, "YOU" pay the 125,000 credits.. then by all means.. have at it![]()
You don't get to tell me what is fun and what isn't. I may happen to like shooting anything that moves.
If you attack me for my cargo, or because I've got a bounty, or I'm on the opposite side in a conflict zone, or even if for whatever reason you know I'm a Fed (I'm not, just for example) and you're an Imperial then you're not a griefer and if you're getting labelled as one I can understand why you're getting annoyed. All that stuff is part of what the game's supposed to be about.i am one of those bounty hunters, but that does not seem to matter,
i am still getting branded as a griefer just because i am pro pvp.
Couldn't have said it any better.
Personally, the more beer I consume, the more likely I am to try to best another player.
Obviously the beer does not help in that regard.
The best part of games like ED for me is that I get to be that surly space jerk with no moral compass that I am not in real life.
-hachikyu
don't count on that, i am almost about to uninstall the game because i am sick of this.
the anti pvp squad is blind, any kind of pvp is just griefing to them
If you are a pirate why would you agree to pay another parties insurance?
That would rather mess up "legitimate" piracy. There's no reason to destroy another players ship that has a clean rating, unless you're in a conflict zone of course. The fact it actually costs you credits to do so should tell you the true nature of the psychopaths that do it. ED has given you all the tools you need to interdict a player, plant a limpet and nick the cargo if you want to be a pirate that bad.
Simple solution, flag murder against real players differently to murder against npcs.
1-25 murders against real players gives a permanent wanted status that can only be removed by killing enemies in a conflict zone, at a ratio of 100 conflict kills to remove 1 murder.
25+ murders against real players gives a permanent wanted status that can never be removed. (delete the save and restart fresh to remove it)
50+ murders against real players and no ship insurance company in the galaxy should touch you with a barge pole.

^^^ Totally.. there should be consequences..![]()
Piracy in Elite has usually involved murdering the victim (as it all too often has in reality). ED gives us some alternatives but it may end up with blowing the other guy up, particularly if he decides to put up a fight. Whilst in reality that would be murder as well as piracy, piracy in Elite is part of the game design that I wouldn't like to see made unviable (although it should be in some places). Therefore they shouldn't be treated as harshly as those who attack other players because they like upsetting other players (the type of people who teamkill in other games). How do you tell them apart, and is there a mechanic for dealing with it with a plausible in-game explanation.Pirate: A person who attacks and robs ships at sea.
Muderer: A person who commits murder.
These 2 things are very different, they are different words that mean completely different things.
