Please don't take away our colonization megaships!

The Brewer colonization megaships are incredibly useful and helpful for anyone needing supplies for colonization. And I'm sure they are making huge profits for Brewer! Just look at all the fleet carriers nearby placing buy orders! There is absolutely no reason they need to be removed. You don't close a store during the holiday rush!

More importantly, I and many other CMDRs worked very hard on the CG to earn those ships! I put in extra time and even delayed finishing my first colony to help the CG along. Taking away awards earned in a CG feels like a bait and switch. What next, are you going to take back paint jobs earned from CGs? Will I lose all the modules I've earned in CGs?

Please don't do something as underhanded and cruel as taking away the ships that we earned!

Has there been some notification that this is going to happen at any specified time?

I would assume that these would only be removed once there's enough new commodity markets to take up the slack.
Now't concrete beyond this

"It is expected that, when economies and populations begin to settle, Brewer Corporation’s Trailblazer fleet of megaships which currently supply many colonies will be repurposed for other duties."

Maybe moving them around every so often would be a good idea.

Put them into systems that haven't had every carrier slot clogged by people who loaded their carriers up (or set a buy order) then logged off for two months.
Makes sense - adds the possibility that players get a bit of good luck and one lands in a system close enough you don't need the carrier.

Wouldn't worry about it in that case, given the very important "when (things) begin to settle" part of that statement.

Presumably at some point players will be sourcing their stuff closer to/in the system they’re building so will stop using the megaships, at which point they’ll be of little use anyway.

It makes much more sense for me for the Trail Blazer megaships to simply move to keep pace with the expanding bubble. Those colonists racing for Sag A* or Colonia won't benefit from them, but most colonization is still close to the bubble, where having the megaships continue to stay near the outskirts of the ever expanding bubble will be quite helpful.

I actually posted that, "Mommy and Daddy's Trailer Park", be closed as it is a crutch; useful in the short-term and detrimental in the long term. We have been given clearer means to produce systems capable of supporting further colonization efforts, either as a single system or a small cluster of systems and thus it is dependent on players to decide to make systems able to support colonization as the bubble grows or keep carrier jumping back to the original bubble for supplies.

Players who understand markets and colonization, sure, they can find better markets. Elite's long term survival requires encouraging new players to try it out. Using the megaships as a easy way to get into colonization would be a permanent bonus to the game. Especially since colonization has a very low bar to entry compared to other activities in the game.

Also, we were promised the ships as a CG award. Taking them away is a bait and switch. While some people clearly don't mind losing them, to me it feels slimy.

Though, how is a new player supposed to know that the megaships exist at all? They have no marker on the galaxy map, they're not even a "proper" station so they don't have a marker on the system map, and the Galnet article saying where they are will drop out of the in-game display soon if it hasn't already.

Yes, there are various 3rd-party tools they could use, but if they can find those they can find the commodities in other ways anyway. And if you don't have a Fleet Carrier (a new player obviously won't!) then the megaships are only particularly convenient if you're building a colony within a few jumps of one.

As a new player I was trading between stations long before I even notice fleet carriers or discovered 3rd party tools.
