Please implement cross play and cross progression for PC and console clients.

Coming from a console centric video game discussion platform with a small Elite Dangerous player base and being both PC player and console user, I'd really like to see Frontier implement cross platform play and a unified Elite Dangerous account across all clients...

Sure. Just as long as the PC players get the extra commander slots available to consoles, else it's not a level killing playing field.

Sir, I am going to respectfully disagree:
https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/...ony-took-so-long-to-enable-console-cross-play

"So we had to look at it from a technical point of view, we have to work with our partners from a business point of view, we have to make sure that if we enable this, do we have the right customer service support, do we have the right messaging out there, do we have all these different things that you have to get in line. It's rather ordinal - they have to go in a certain order to get them all set up."

(Of course, for Epic at least, enabling Fortnite console cross-play was as simple as flipping a switch, so simple in fact that the developer accidentally let PS4 and Xbox One owners play together a year ago.)

Sony boss dismisses Fortnite cross-play controversy: ‘PlayStation is the best place to play’

Sep3 2018
Sony has been blocking cross-play and progression between Fortnite on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch / Xbox One. While there were some signs the company was listening to the feedback to its controversial decision, Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida has made the company’s stance clear. In an interview with the Press Association (via The Independent) at IFA last week, Yoshida claims the PlayStation 4 is the best experience to play Fortnite.

Sep 29 Sony finally enabled crossplay. People screamed and screamed at them.
The squeaky wheel got greased.

Sorry but I'm dropping the ball directly in the lap of Sony here. I believe enough pressure placed on Sony could get them to admit that crossplay on ED could also be a thing. Once that happens, FD can flip that switch (most likely a beta first but after a few weeks of testing....).
How does this address my point? Frontier could have had Xbox-PC crossolay from DAY ONE. They didnt do it. They STILL haven't done it. That's on Frontier.

PS4 Elite hasn't even been around for very long. Sony is irrelevant. Were they retroactively preventing Frontier from doing Xbox-PC crossplay before PS4 Elite was even a thing? And now that Sony *is* allowing crossplay, what's Frontier doing?

"Uh, we are watching the situation with interest and have nothing to announce."

They already haven't done anything, and they're still not doing anything. That's on Frontier. They may have dropped the ball in Sony's lap, but they still dropped the ball.

Good on Frontier for waiting until all console manufacturers to decide "Open Crossplay for all games" instead of just Fortnite BR Beta.

Instancing and matchmaking stability is bad enough without throwing in multiple partial crossplay (PC/Xbox & PC/PS4) matchmaking options into the mix: a PC CMDR drops into an location, which is already occupied by Xbox and PS4 CMDRs in separate instances; (because warring manufacturers); which instance does Elite select to matchmake the PC CMDR into, and why?

I'm happy for FDev to wait and do all, as opposed to partial. It would only cause more drama if FDev chose the most-popular console platform (PS4) to do partial crossplay with, because the owners of the less popular console (Xbox) would pop a vein.

So far only one game has been allowed full crossplay. Patience is a virtue.

Let me pull the pin on this grenade real quick.

I wonder, if some of these people would still want cross platform play to happen.

This is one of the excuses the ANTI-PVP movement comes up with when it came to BGS and Powerplay.

Making this change would give us a TRUE Open Only experience.

Now I wonder how many monkeys will be against it when they realize they would have to face their enemy.

Pretty much this. ^^^^

The switch would be "allow all console and PC users together" or "You gotta keep 'em separated." I think Frontier is waiting to see if Sony gives up on it's "My way or else" attitude or just wants to be a stick in the mud. I still believe enough pressure from Sony customers will force them to capitulate and say "OK" to all crossplay.

I'm currently in Power Play and was personally very shy about playing in Open. I still am, but I realize that in Power Play, you all have to see each other in order to fly in wings, work cooperatively with other members of your power and must interact with players pledged to other powers (friendly or not). The only way to stop players from a rival power from working against you is to actually be able to SEE then. Without full open crossplay, that's simply not possible. PC players working for one power simply cannot counter moves by players on PS4 or XBone unless they're in the same sandbox that they play in.

I've fallen into the belief that Power Play IS PvP. You simply have to expect it.
If you don't want that, then don't pledge to a power and remain neutral.

One thing I'm curious about is how friends would work. As it stands on PS4 and Xbox, it's system based. Would Elite introduce it's own lists?

Elite was out on both PC and Xbox One for over A YEAR AND A HALF before Ps4 Elite was released. If they were "smart" for not doing crossplay back then, well I guess we're gonna have to wait for a Nintendo Switch version before a crossplay discussion can even START. Course by then the next wave of Sony and Microsoft consoles will probably be on the horizon, so Frontier should probably wait and see what happens with them before they do anything, and I mean do we really know how this whole "Internet" thing is going to pan out in the first place? Better wait and see on that too.

Yes good on them for letting Sony dictate the terms of their game design on non-Sony platforms for almost two years before they even HAD a game on any Sony platform. Smart decision all around. There's no possible way that Xbox and PC players would have enjoyed playing with each other for the past THREE YEARS since the game came out. Smart move by Frontier to not make their game more fun because Sony controls them.

You may make a good point. I'm going to assume here that there were already plans to go with a PS4 version and might have been aware of Sony's feelings on cross-play, hence the switch was left in the "off" position for the time being. You'd have to get the answer directly from FD on that point (which IS a good point, mind you).

Please see a nutritionist about your excessive salt-levels.

Oct 2015 - Elite launched on Xbox One
Jun 2016 - Horizons launched on Xbox One bringing it to parity with PC
Later in June 2016 - Microsoft announced Xbox Play Anywhere: full Xbox+Win10 crossplay (not Win7/8) for applicable games
Sep & Oct 2016 - Minecraft & Gears Of War 4 (MS first-party titles) launched as the headline Play Anywhere games
Jun 2017 - Elite & Horizons launched on PS4

No, FDev shouldn't have focused on Win10/Xbox crossplay, excluding Win7/8/Mac CMDRs, in the 9 month window between the first Play Anywhere and Elite-PS4 launches.

Yes, FDev were wise to develop the PS4 port (9+ months of work?) and await news of full, unrestricted crossplay from all Elite platforms.

Edit: additionally, more PS4 games support PC crossplay than Xbox games: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_video_games_that_support_cross-platform_play

So: Switch port, wait for XboxTwo and PS5, and then maybe think about seeing about looking into considering getting started on planning to think about maybe doing cross play?

Anyone who has kept up with current gaming would know that Nintendo have already stated they're fully supportive of All Platform Crossplay, so there's no reason to wait for their port (if it's even happening).

Next strawman?

So we know that Sony have been using their "think about the children" tale and using their profanity filter in chat etc to show what they mean. And using this as the "main" reason to deny cross play, since they could not guarantee this "protection" for other platforms...

What have we seen lately from FDev? They have been working on an overzealous profanity filter for chat... Do we think this is a pure coincidence? or in preparation for something?

I guess only time will tell.

I could or can understand the console being able to cross play; But allowing the pc to be involved when they have so many more options than a either of the two main consoles have to offer. Would present a problem for the console player when confronted by a pc player. Both console are basically on the same level as to what one can and cannot do. PC's have many more abilities to utilize and would give any one in a cross play a bigger atvantage. OK, having a keyboard and mouse available would be an improvement for the consoles. We still cannot modify any of the particular files which can augment the dymamics like a pc can. Example would be the use of third party addon's like "Voice Attack" or other such program. Having more available keys to configure make playing on a console considerably faster when one can reconfigure multitudes of keys vs a few multiple buttons. But third party programs such as the one stated, makes it even faster. Using A vocal command program is far easier and faster and one doesn't have to remove their hands from their particular control device to do so.

Your griping is out of date, there's a toggle in beta for it.

Next conspiracy theory please.
