Please make Elite Stars (prestige) ranks retroactive.

As with a lot of things in Elite which are unbalanced (exploiting money etc): 🤷‍♀️

What do these new prestige ranks actually do? Nothing. Total waste of time IMHO

Agreed it's mostly nothing now, the Elite ranks have very little meaning apart from being able to access a couple of extra systems on the huge galaxy map, but they don't really mean much achievement wise.

I just think it devalues reaching Elite more for playing who have yet to reach it.
I remember my first Elite in exploration and boy was I proud.
From now on: Gratz, you are Elite, now you just need to become Elite I etc. Kills the feeling of an achievement if you are still to hit Elite.

It's something to do ;)

For a long time I have considered triple Elite (or reaching Elite in any rank really) not to be an end goal, but the end of the beginning. If you're Elite, no more excuses you have demonstrated you understand how to kill NPCs, gather & sell exploration data, earn money etc.

It is of course up to the player whether they choose to put any value in any achievement, I qualified my triple Elite by doing it within a year of starting, although that was in 2015 & the challenge is different now. I don't expect anyone else to be impressed but I set myself a goal that was challenging & am proud I achieved it. I've gone on to do other challenges since too, it's just how I like to play ;)

Nothing wrong with your way to play :)

I would rather prefer they would start linking ranks to real achievements like for explorers:
Has seen all star types
Was atleast 50k away from starting point

Such things. But yes that's utopic and it's about "Make your own goals" but sometimes a big more nudging players in directions would really go a long way.

You can do that yourself though, the Codex even tracks it for you now & that's one of the targets I aim for when I'm exploring, although I find my own examples rather than visiting the example given in the codex.

I took a 19ly jump range fully equipped combat Corvette to Beagle point in 2017, it took 7 months to get there, IIRC it took about 2 months to cover the last 2,000ly with synthed jumps knowing only the location of Beagle Point and that it could be reached in a 36ly ship & I could jump 38ly with synth. It was like a maze of dead ends :)

The game doesn't have to track & provide achievements for everything, only to give a few example targets to aim for until the player understands enough about the game to set targets that are meaningful to them.

I've never really done much PvP, killing other players is not a goal I am interested in achieving but I respect the skill that some have acquired in that area. Quite a lot of players have tried & failed to pop my ship(s) though & I'm pretty happy each time I have an emergent encounter where I could die but don't ;)

Yes I can and I've done this for 7+ years now :)

But such things would make long way inspiring newer players to dabble in all the things they could do.

o7 Commanders. Respect.

I, too am concerned about this. Originally, the 'ranks' were added with Odyssey, but didn't show immediately. I didn't even notice any difference (apart from the new categories) until I checked the Ranks section in the patch notes:

That didn't even show up until just recently, and now, when I check that left panel, it bothers me.

I added the screenshots to NeoTron's Issue Tracker. No, it's not a top priority. Yes, there are many, many issues that should be handled first. I'm happy that some of you couldn't care less about it, but my heart goes out to those commanders that have put literal weeks of their time into this with a passion and fervor to 'achieve' that Triple Elite, and kept going. They kept playing. They didn't whinge. They didn't rage quit. They didn't move on to other games.

They played their asses off and they LOVED EVERY MINUTE.

It feels as though not acknowledging that time investment is a disservice to them and as Amy Pendergast mentions above cheapens the 'top tier' feeling of what Elite really is.

I hope that it is addressed in its time. I hope that Frontier finds the best solution for its playerbase.

The more I think about this, the more I am convinced David B had almost no involvement in this latest(and last?) chapter of what I am sure will become his legacy..
FDev and the Elite team today are completely different beasts as nearly a decade ago. I don't think DB still influences much there on a creative and directly involving level.

The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced, this is the FDev way of "enhancing endgame for top tier players".
I don't want to be rude, but you're a bit slow on that one :)
Elite 1-5 was made to give veteran something to do. It's the odyssey endgame. Alongside the 2 new ranks and the new engineering. Get your triple elite 5, and your new double ground elite.

Yes it's lame.

His legacy is now a multi million dollar company. He is a CEO nowadays, his job involves a lot more than ED.

Alas, I think you are right.. Elite is now being run by the equivalent of Kathleen Kennady and Rian Johnson .. and it breaks my heart to think what could have been.

No offence taken :)
It was merely a musing that FDev is going the easy road with everything they want to achieve instead of coming up with engaging and entertaining ideas.

I would rather put that guy who ruined Star Trek and whose name I don't write out into the list too.

This shouldn't be on the issue tracker. It's not a bug!

The issue tracker has enough problems as it is, but part of the reason things can't be looked at properly is people use it incorrectly and spam it with feature requests and then brigade others to confirm and vote up pointless things.

I just think it devalues reaching Elite more for playing who have yet to reach it.
Some Elite ranks like Exploration have been devalued for years. Exploration payouts have had 3 increases over time, the bump at 2.4 for terraformable worlds was pretty big, but with the introduction of the FSS all bets went out the window. The rank thresholds have not been updated since release.

I know someone who's highest single system reward is 70 million credits. That puts you over halfway to Pioneer which is the 6th of 7 old ranks! You can do this in a Sidewinder with a DSS.

Elite ranks have meant nothing for years.
