PLEASE MAKE POWERPLAY IN "OPEN ONLY"

Some players find PvP to be fun, no doubt. Frontier, on the other hand, would seem to be "well aware" that the majority of players don't get involved in PvP - and designed their game so that PvP is an entirely optional extra in their game.

The change I'm proposing would actually make it rewarding to take on the challenge of fighting other players. Nothing would be removed, so people who do not wish to participate in PVP would not be forced to, but they might see the appeal to get into it if it's 3 times faster than destroying NPCs.

But if you are willing to let it die, whats the harm in trying it? If it fails, then nothing of value is lost. If its a sucess then great! A dead feature has a new lease of life.
That depends whether the opinion regarding Frontier of those players adversely affected by such a change constitutes "nothing" to be lost,

You do not need either powerplay nor VR to play the game it seems.
I play Powerplay. I don't have a VR. So stop saying I don't need either.

I know a cmdr who cannot play anymore after 3.0. because his pc drops to unplayable framerate. He says an xbox or a playstation is luxury.
Tell that cmdr to go to tech support. He might have a virus or to much stuff on a hard drive. It something minor that can be fix.

There are many good reason we listed for having OOPP, of course we all agree it is pointless to have VR only for some modes. So you are building your usual paper castles.
Where "good" is a subjective term, dependent on one's personal preference regarding PvP-gating existing game features.

How would such a bonus be implemented so that it could not be gained through collusion in uncontested encounters?

Increasing the likelihood of encountering another player does not constitute a guarantee that other players will be encountered.

True, but places like expansions, capitals etc will be like Jameson Memorial at times due to Powerplay objectives.

Then there's the thorny issue of instancing - given that some players, due to geography, internet connection, other consumers of that internet connection, etc. who find it difficult to meet other players.

Thats true to a point. P2P does have issues. But until you test it you won't know how effective EDs instancing is in this situation.

Skill and teamwork does not necessitate PvP.

Powerplay is not pure PvP.

.... and empty at others, due to the game running 24/7.

I expect that those who have participated in group events already have a good idea of how easy, or not, it is to instance with others one wants to instance with.

The friends list and block list also affect instancing.

Powerplay does not require PvP at all at this time.

Does not change the fact that it is not OOPP proponents bringing features away from console players, it is the company who sells the hardware and their subscriptions.
Are players on consoles without premium platform access currently able to engage in Powerplay?

Would making Powerplay Open only change that?

It would not be the console makers who made the change.

True, but this is not like you can't see when a system or objective is under threat. You have station reports, Powerplay reports, player reports.

Check out that video I posted where you have multiple wings fighting at once.

The friends list and block list also affect instancing.

True. The block feature would need looking at too, but that would benefit other parts of the game too since more and more of it is multiplayer.

Powerplay does not require PvP at all at this time.

At this time yes. In Sandros proposal you will need teamwork that might involve it.

It can't. And this is something people can do now and will still be able to do if it goes open only. Unfortunately due to how cheap alt accounts are during sales, it opens up the opportunity for this sort of behaviour even more. Its one reason FD probably can't ever contemplate significantly rewarding direct PvP. Just too many possibilities to exploit via either collusion with other people or by using alt accounts.

Of course, if everyone is in open there is a chance of a random encounter with an opposing player who could mess with the plans, but considering timezones, instancing, etc, you can probably do whatever you want in peace most of the time.

Perhaps FD need to implement (if they haven't already) some sort of monitor for people running multiple accounts from the same IP. But then, they would need to watch what is actually happening as well, since people can be running multiple copies on the same IP for family and friends or just in a shared network space like a student dormitary. It would put a lot of overhead on FD unless it was just raising flags in very specific situations. And then, that only helps with people running multiple accounts, not collusion.

There is no way to prevent cheating completely, I'm afraid. But if cheating has to be done in open, there's a chance that another player will find out and report it.
That's how we handled the bad eggs in planetside 2.

People who want to fight other players can already do that. They are already doing that. Anyone who doesn't want to fight other players is probably playing in PG/solo. People hauling generally are not stopping to fight players or NPCs, it reduces efficiency, and you need that efficiency to compete in PP.

Open/PG/solo - you want to be avoiding combat if hauling.

Weighted merits would sort it out, but then the question is would you be happy with solo merits being worth 5% of Open, or a percentage based on the total merits handed in in Open?

But its that guaranteed efficiency in Powerplay that is driving it into oblivion. Disrupting fortification along with UM would make defence a lot more difficult, making larger powers more difficult to maintain.

Its a fair point. Chances are a lot smaller in ED of catching someone colluding though. Combat takes place in low wake space, so unless someone is dropping into a random low wake and sees someone colluding then they are unlikely to get caught.

Take stealing PP goods. One account loads up, another account meets up with them and "steals" the merits. Someone drops in. "Ah ha! What is this?" "Oh, i've interdicted this other player and he is cooperating, i'm stealing his goods" then from the other accounts "Yes, rather nice of him to not just blow me up and actually do proper powerplay. No worries, he can take the stuff and ill do another run soon. I'll try and evade him next time".

I'm talking about people doing it in open if it went open only (or weighted merits).

You mean the requirement? Jesus it is hard to follow you. On paper probably it did not change, but 3.0 introduced a lot of new color grading stuff which some potatos cannot handle as well as before. And for my friend, that fps drop was unacceptable. But he does not hinder the game's progress.

You might want to recommend to FD they review their minimum requirements then.
