Please remove the display of CQC rank from my panel

I think it's the fact that obviously a sizeable lump of development went on a stand alone development, which could instead - had the desire been there - added some more involved gameplay in the core game.

It's three years, and we're only just getting Wing missions? Yet there was time to development a stand alone fighter game?

What if that effort had instead put fighter based combat gameplay in the core game? eg: Signing up for a tour of duty protecting/attack a location/asset. And if this had been offered with bots or indeed for PvP (in OPEN)?

We could right now be leveraging those assets to have fighter tours of duty trying to fight Thargoid scout ships etc while escorting convoys of civilians through asteroid fields to safety.

But instead? We have a lump of stand alone development effort collecting dust for the majority of the community.

I had great fun in CQC for a few weeks. But had it been in the core game, being used/leveraged in more and more ways, I'm certain I'd have got more out of that development effort, and ED would have been a more interesting experience now.

I guess it's just a different way of looking at things. I'm not a big fan of powerplay, but I don't begrudge the time taken to develop it. The game is still fairly successful and has quite a large user base, over a few different platforms. It might be less successful if people other than me weren't playing it, and they might be there because of stuff like Powerplay.... and Arena.

CQC is part of the game. It's in the main menu just so you know.

So is a Coriolis station spinning in low orbit above a planet while an SRV watches from below, but that will never happen in-game. So what you're saying is that, since it exists in the menu, it's therefore a part of the game.

True in a technical sense, but not in a playability sense. Empirically, I've played ED for going on 3 years and have yet to successfully connect to a CQC match (and not for lack of trying).

CQC is part of the game.

At the risk of going all Inception-like, CQC is a game in the game. Posting our CQC rank alongside our "real" rank is like a professional soldier wearing medals from his weekend paintball games alongside his actual military medals - it makes no sense.

In lore, it was conceived as a sort of recruiting ground for the federal military. It's not exactly paintball.

I'm sure there's a lore explanation for all the skipping between open / solo / private too. But I'll let someone else explain that.

So if I align Imperial, Alliance, or Independent, I can have this useless stat removed? Awesome! :D

As long as you give up your access to the federal rank locked ships.

[Disclaimer - I don't like having CQC on my stats panel either. Don't play it, never will.]

So, here's a 'compromise' that will no doubt cause ire amongst 'the usual suspects' ;) ...

IF a pilot has never played CQC but has indulged in combat with the Thargoid menace, replace the CQC non-rating with an AX rating similar to Combat but specifically geared towards AX activities.

- I have a feeling that this will become more important to more pilots as time advances.

Don't play it - never will again. No incentive and poorly implemented.

Its stand alone as its intent was to encourage sign up for the console market. If they wanted us to engage - shove the locations into the main game behind permit locked areas..take off the ranking reminder as its just a shame full reminder. Instead push in game adverts, news articles and radio broadcasts (eg. Cmdr x wins today) with some actual credits or skins to win.

Otherwise drop it and move on. Obviously FD either don't care, or their too busy on other stuff. Personally I couldn't give a monkeys, just drop that ranking...

And for those of us that have done both?

I like CQC. But I'm not bothered about the rank being shown. Can we get rid of the other ones too? :D

This feature isn't part of the main game. It is a rank that almost no one cares about. I have no interest in playing this external game mode. Please at least create an option to remove the display of my CQC rank. I have never once played CQC, and I have no interest whatsoever.

I agree.

As with many others, I wear my "0% helpless" badge with pride.

And know that we are not in the minority. For evidence of this, just check out the EDSM statistics page. The lowermost ratings are most popular in all four categories, with lowermost Exp/Trd/Com ranks at about 50% - by which I would assume that about half of EDSM users haven't linked their in-game commander, so are rated at the default 0%. (I have difficulty believing that half of the EDSM contributors are at 0% exploration rating, since EDSM is primarily an explorers tool)

But check out the CQC ratings: a stark difference, with 93.5% of members rated at "helpless". Clearly only a small minority of EDSM users had had anything to do with CQC.

People are using CQC, at least when I log on. Didn't things go wrong when everyone started arguing over using custom setups VR/HOTAS etc etc, it then became clear certain cmdrs would have an unfair advantage? There was a massive topic, the devs cancelled the competition ($100,000 top prize) Said they would revisit it at some point, never came back to it. Pretty sure the CqC permit locked system is still in the Bubble.

This is the problem with CQC and part of the problem with Open PVP, mouse users have easy mode, VR users can have much better situational awareness. You can't balance that in ongoing competitions unless everyone has the same equipment. THey probably wanted to turn it into an E-Sport, there was quite a lot of excitement before they cancelled it.

Whilst I agree with your points, this affects the whole game, not just CQC, though, really, ED does a pretty good job of levelling the playing field in terms of controllers.

VR certainly is a huge boost, though, I can tell you that playing CQC in VR doubles my K/D ration fro ~1.5:1 to about 3:1. Being able to visually track another ship, and also look around for threats males a big difference in life expectancy.

Z...
