So.
Wanted to do this for a while.
But always only Posted Suggestions.

Now I would like to actually Post a Poll to it to see what People think of this rather than Suggesting something.

So very General Poll with a very Basic Question.

Would you guys want to See Frigates and Destroyers in the Game as Playabale Vessels in the Game as the next step after the current Largest Playable Vessels of Corvettes.

Corvettes currently are using C4 Weapons and Tier 8 Modules.
So to also give you an idea where these would be grouped in terms of Power. Frigates and Destroyers would increase this to C5 Weapons and Tier 9 and Tier 10 Modules :)
Which means that the Curve is the same as with earlier Ships :)
Meaning the Frigate Ships Compared to the Federal Corvette should have a similar increase of Power as from Fer de Lance to Anaconda. :)

Edit:
Pls note if your exact Answer is not in the Poll. Pls simply Choose whatever comes closest.
Unfortunately we are all Humans. And my Grandfather already said. There is as many Opinions as there is Humans on the Planet. So I cant add every single Answer someone might give to the Poll.

I voted "no" to all of it because FDev has done a bad job with adding game mechanics for larger ships. Every ship all the way up to something the size of a skyscraper is a single pilot fighter that has beam lasers and multicannons and does loop-de-loops. It's just numbers getting bigger JRPG style and its lazy and dumb. I don't want a single-seater Death Star doing loop-de-loops. It's already dumb with the Corvettes and Anacondas. The only reason anybody wants bigger ships is because the current upper-tier ships feel tiny even though they are in fact MASSIVE.

If we ever get some depth added to the flight and weapons control model, extensive NPC crews that can be assigned task, FTL-style, and meaningful tactical differences between different classes of ships, THEN and only then would I like to see even bigger ships. Until then heck no.

Well. A Corvette is still a Corvette after all.
Its not an Ship. But an Boat in the Military.
And it usually had Frontal Weapons and Torpedoes not Turreted Weapons.

So wether or not we get real Bigger Ship Playstyles would not be found out before we actually get at least Frigates.
Because unlike Corvettes which in reality as well. Are Frontal Heavy Armed.
Frigates and Destroyers would be the First Ships which under Historical Viewpoints should come with more Broadside Armaments than Frontal Firepower :p

Have you played Rebel Galaxy? That was a lot of fun going from the little corvette class all the way to dreadnaught. I could definitely get behind some bigger ships in the Elite universe.

Well, actually, why stop there?

It is a space game. Space is big. I want the space ships to be equally big. Star Wars Executor Class comes to mind as an example.

From what they were saying in their Gamescom stream about the new docked capital ships you can find out and about it seems like they were hinting at the possibility of being able to pilot them in the future.

How would you operate that large ships as a solo CMDR?
Why larger, why not more diverse?
Need a license for them?

Have fun asking for big ships,
please hire a helmsman then and put your joystick aside commanding the ship via
voice commands.
"Helmsman full speed out of the thread!"

Didn't vote in the poll. Like said above, I would like to see larger ships at some point, but only with some appropriate gameplay associated to them. Implementing increasingly larger ships with the current mechanics (Corvettes more maneuverable than fighters in specific cases [woah]) serves no purpose. In fact, it cheapens the game.

I want my own station that creates frigates and destroyers that have launchable Corvettes and Cutters that have launchable fighters, that have launchable SRVs...

One thing I have never liked in this game is that for most weapons, large versions are as efficient as the smaller ones against small ships.
If frigates and above show up, they must be able to deal insane amount of damage only against huge ships, but way less damage against small ships (but in the end, huge ship vs single small ship would still win).
Otherwise...well, we are going to add one more extra layer of imbalance to the game.

For instance, current gimballed pulse lasers track/hit the target efficiently whether they are small or large. This is bad to me, even if you fly a nimble Eagle, you get vaporized in no time.
On the other hand, class 3 fixed burst lasers rate of fire is slow and makes it highly inefficient against an Eagle. Using C1/C2 is more efficient in this case.

I wish there were more options to deal huge amount of damage but efficient only against huge ships...while making smaller ships able to dodge that efficiently.
We would then see big ships using small weapons to take down small fighters (C1/C2 weapons of the Corvette, anybody?) , and use the bigger ones only against big birds.
In ED, you can use the biggest gun against a fly and still nail the shot...

I want to see more "big ships" that behave like "big ships", but I don't think I want them to be player pilotable.

Right now we have two destroyers in the game that really don't do much. I want to see more big ships that can show up at other times, that actually fly around and do things. A large ship showing up and causing havoc would be awesome, giving the current cap ships some AI would be a start, but something maybe half that size that could show up in combat zones, or signal sources, or even near resource extraction sites to provide fire support for the local police...

Elite is the wrong game for these things... But I voted Don't care.

Reason being, players in battlecruisers won't stop me from flying my Cobra, which is the only ship I need.

You're taking modern naval warship naming conventions and using this as a justification for why everything should behave like a biplane. I'm saying that if you go by ship size and heck even their history in prior Elite games, we're already way past the point of absurdity even for a goofy scifi game. Sorry I'd prefer if ships the size of Big Ben dont handle like go-karts. By your logic we have to wait until they're the size of the Golden Gate Bridge before it makes sense to fundamentally rethink the gameplay, and you're basing it on the *names* of the ships. Well guess what the Imperial ships are all from the age of sail, back when broadsides were common, and most of the ships are named after snakes. We're gonna have to come up with a different metric here.

Wrong game. ED is all about being a small cog in a large machine. You don't get to be an admiral.

Nailed it, imo.

I would be happy to see bigger ships, but I don't think they need to be playable at any point soon, if ever.

I would much rather see Frontier flesh out the mid-ship Asp-to-Python range a lot more, like they did with the smaller ships.

Would not mind that to be honest.

Erm.
We dont have any Destroyers.

We got the Majestic Class Interdictor.
And the Farragut Battlecruiser.

Thats not destroyers.

And Both are way too large as to have any meaning for a player currently.
A Destroyer should be roughly three times the size of an Federal Corvette

Wrong game. ED is all about being a small cog in a large machine. You don't get to be an admiral.

Interestingly we got Rear Admiral Ranks and FD said they plan for players to get heavy influence on the game later on.
So it might be just the right game.

In the first place tough.
Frigates and Destroyers are Screen Ships. They are far away from Admiral Vessels. Currently given the volume. A Destroyer would likely be like 1/30 of an Farragut Battlecruiser.

Elite is the wrong game for these things... But I voted Don't care.

Reason being, players in battlecruisers won't stop me from flying my Cobra, which is the only ship I need.

The Poll as main question is Frigates and Destroyers.
Not Battlecruisers.

And nobody wants to force you.
To begin with a Destroyer would likely be really expensive and be fairly limited in many jobs cause he could only use docked fighters to get into normal Star Ports. Docking being only available on the new introduced larger Space Stations :)
So smaller ships wont be something that can be abandoned anyways.

Its the currently used naming and usage we got in the game.
I am not deciding that so complain to FD.
I merely state that we wont see FD making anything better if we tell them to leave things as they are lol....

Jeebus. Don't you think we've already got enough power creep in the game already? I'd far rather Frontier added in new versions of the classic small Elite ships (KRAIT! MORAY! GECKO!), and filled in some rather large blanks and gaps in the current roster with either more ships (BOA! PANTHER!) or more variants.

Now do I want NPC Frigates, Destroyers, Large Liners, Bulk liquid carriers, Tankers, Container vessels, Agricultural ships, Hospital vessels, Atmos. shuttles etc. etc. as static/dynamic features to add flavour to systems, and act as focuses for potential missions? Oh, heck yes. :)

I would be happy to pilot anything, even an escape pod if necessary (provided it has a small FSD drive and fuel scoop) ! I expect to always be the pilot. This game is version 4 in the ELITE series ........ do not expect to be anything but the pilot ! Mr Braben's vision is crystal clear ....... in first person view walk out to his ship, fly to any location in our galaxy, land his ship on any planet that would support the human body, walk or drive some distance, admire his ship and the view above ! A small cog in a huge machine, one man one ship.

I imagine that the dev team are already busy modelling the insides of all the current ships with a view to add the ability for players and npc crew to move freely about .......... imagine the work needed for capital class ships !
