An autopilot of sorts is definitely coming, it might be via an NPC crew member otherwise how will you walk around your ship whilst travelling?

Season 3 content imho and extension to NPC crew and Guardians.

An autopilot that can make jumps between systems ONLY: Yes.

Anything outside that: No.

Jumping between systems is the most tedious thing I've ever done, and quite often I'll be doing something else during this time to pass the time.

So I'd love an autopilot that could do that for me, but I'd still want it to disengage and make me fly when it arrives in the destination system.

I just don't get people's antipathy about having an autopilot option!

You don't even have to use it personally if you don't want to, so why deny those that do the option of having one?

I can't believe the poll results show that the majority seems to be against an autopilot! Maybe I'm living in an entirely different universe to everybody else! Either that, or I simply just don't understand where you are coming from at all!:S

I've heard of petty minded but this just blows my mind! Really???

I can only assume that since the 'No' voters would not use one they see an inclusion of an autopilot as an easy ride for the folk that would use one which due to some twisted logic of competition puts them dead against it.

Huh?

xen·o·pho·bi·a
ˌzenəˈfōbēə,ˌzēnəˈfōbēə/
noun
noun: xenophobia: Iintense or irrational dislike or fear of people from other countries.

Maybe, some vocabulary lessons are in order?

Off topic, but the short/first google definition is a little limited/too specific imo.

xeno: other/different/alien/strange
phobia: fear

Essentially fear of what is different. In this case: preference.

The wiki article describes it pretty well too.

Maybe have your NPC pilots able to plot and hold a course whilst you do something other than play the game.

Have their skills and competency determine how many wrong jumps they make, how much cargo they randomly dump, which control bindings they delete when you are not looking, and wether they'll make your ship faceplant into a netron star just for NPC lulz :)

And the instant club are in the wrong place.

Im not calling for instant, just an AI that can travel my ship from point A to B, and make a BUZZZZ when something goes wrong (i.e. pirates, heat near a sun, arrival to destination, etc), like any ship in the sea right now, if you are the captain, you are not in the bridge all the travel! Airplanes have autopilot, fighters have autopilots, even Google and other companies have self driving cars with autopilot right now!, I tell you, in ED the man of the future is dumber than the current one!

Of course it should have an autopilot.

They are in common use now (3 thousand years earlier.)

And it would mitigate against ED being, potentially, the most boring and time-sinking game ever.

they had autopilot in 302ad !!!! ... I suppose a horse can be classed as an autopilot!

You must be new. If so, welcome!

It seems every poll on whether to let the game play for you or not or do something instantly or not hovers at around 70%/30%+- a little in favour of "no". These results are very predictable.

Things like that kind of go against what elite is in my opinion. It's a dangerous place and there's no handholding. We (the no's) want to keep it that way. Basically, what's the point in playing if you aren't even the one playing? I don't think it's petty in the slightest. Maybe we are purist masochists, but if you want a game that plays itself, there are others out there.

I have to agree with you, but I simply don't get it...

Humanity has spent millennia trying to evolve to the current state of play; we have automated everything conceivable from washing machines to the central heating in our homes, yet for some God unknown reason, people that play ED seem to prefer to throw millenia of human history out of the window, and would rather sweat the small stuff, just because they can? Really? How in hell does that make ED a better game and you an evolved human being?

Tell you what, let's not invent the wheel, fire and all that stuff we have been doing since the dawn of mankind and just make squiggles in the mud with our fingers...

I voted yes for delayed tranfert because i think logic and realism are a must, then... Yes, autopilot is an obvious choice.

It would be a fantastic opportunity to raise a very flop part of the game: CQC. Virtual playing while ship autopiloting.

...and no, the game don't play itself. Autopilot put you il line with 50 years of sci-fi lore.

Chess with Chewbacca...

(obviously any danger disengage autopilot)

for those who did not understand: play CQC by the ship's deck, not from the menu ...

Greetings...

Everyone here does understand you can turn it off right, or not even buy one?

Unfortunately there is a much larger population of people that lurk on the forum that think anything that is useful should be banned. Its much a larger population on the forums because the rest of the people are actually playing the game or dont even access the forum. For example the large portion of xBox players and steam players who use those platforms boards alone.

So staring a poll for this will be the same result as the poll for instant transfers. Especially when the largest majority of players dont even know your poll will exist.

In this case you should play SKYRIM or another game in the middle ages! but it's supposed that the future will be more automated than now. Even in DCS world you can takeoff in any aircraft and press the autopilot to flight to destination through selected waypoints with terrain avoidance included!! hahahaaha amazing ED crazy future!
