Polygon and Twinfinite interviews - more Odyssey details, unknowns, and Walking-In-Ships not at launch

They haven't nailed down the flight model in atmospheres yet? Wut.

Ok, that's a surprise at this late stage.

I am shocked that you cannot at least walk around on your bridge. I really expected at least that amount of interactivity with existing ship assets. That's disappointing.

The planets look good, I'll give them that. Sampling alien life sounds like it could be fun, but if it's just the same as the existing surface sampling gameplay (but on foot) it'll be a bit of a letdown.

All in all I have to say I'm a bit underwhelmed. At least this news reveal has not gotten me any more pumped for it.

Total supposition but wandering about on your bridge would be a good free demo of space feet. If you don't buy the expansion the "open airlock button" isn't powered.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
To be honest that aspect doesn't concern me at all because it seemed fairly clear from the way they talked about it on the stream today that whatever the initial release of Odyssey looks like, it's as much about putting a framework into place for future expansions to slot into as it is providing a whizz-bang all-singing, all-dancing update at day one. Much like development of the game over the last five years. It will expand the potential scope of the game significantly, which for me at least is far more important than whether X or Y is in it at day one.

Sorry, but I just can't agree there. They've had years to lay foundations. IMHO we're way past the point where they can claim that excuse for their interminably long dev timeline. Given the time they've spent on space legs, I expect a fully functional whizz-bang experience day one. Many of us have bemoaned the lack of depth in the game for years with the expectation that the foundation was laid by version 1.0 and Fdev just needed more time to flesh it out. If they launch Odyssey with a flight model that they've finished at the 11th hour, and without even the ability to walk around on your bridge, I for one will be disappointed.

I'd say we should just give them the benefit of the doubt, but frankly we've had so many expansions that have failed to live up to their potential that I'm a bit jaded. I'm still hopeful, and some of the stuff shown here looks very cool, but it's not blowing my socks off.

Watching some of CMDR Ascorbius livestream earlier CMDR Plater (I think it was) was in chat suggesting some details in the Polygon article may have been refuted by fdev. So let's wait and see I guess.

I'm hyped, regardless!

Wow we get to walk around and pick plants to then go back to the bubble yet again to get rewards. How about base building ? or building mining rigs on planets. ? This game is getting worse. We have billions of planets yet the FDEVS are forcing you to stay in the bubble. Its like they are scared that people will want to move out of the bubble and never return and then they wont have control of what we can do in the black. We have seen this in the recent mining nert for Fleet Carriers. What about community goals ? what about burning stations ? why have they gone ? Look at how many Fleet Carriers were bought on day one. People want to live and expand outside of the bubble. Pull your blindfolds off and give us something that will let us build bases and expnad. Even your competitor Eveonline has base building.

Well .... It seems Frontier haven't actually said what Polygon are saying.
There is an image, of Burr Pitt clarifying it. I can't post the image here, as it's from his discord. If you want to see it, go to his discord and look at it.

That looks untrue ... this dev reveal was about exploration, and that takes you out of the Bubble. We don't yet know where these planetary hubs or bases or whatever will be located, but Colonia has a chain of spaceports all the way along its route, there's a port at the center of the Galaxy, and other stations outside of the Bubble.

It needs to be clarified, and that is what is hopefully happening. :)

Totally understand where you're coming from and ultimately it's a personal perspective. I'm hardly a fully paid-up member of the happy-clappy brigade myself, perhaps it's because this game is no longer as central a part of my gaming life as it may have been three or four years ago that I can afford to be a little more sanguine about this update, since it won't be the end of the world for me if it's not jaw-dropping on day one.

(Edit - added most of that after the like but I don't think it changed the context of the original one line post :)

It's not been refuted BY FRONTIER
In one corner we have Polygon saying Frontier said X
In the other corner we have one or more people who have spoken to Frontier saying Frontier said the Polygon article is not what they said.

You and I are in the middle.

Hm, thanks a bunch. That offers a glimmer of hope there, Buur seems to have had a direct line. Let’s see what the clarification is when it comes if it comes.

Optimistic viewpoint: We don't know how long ago those interviews were held. The material may have been held back a long time under a NDA. And they've moved on.

Pessimistic Viewpoint: It's all true and no wonder they haven't engaged with us to date. How do they assemble all the pieces (which they are presently unsure about) and work out the inevitable bugs .... in <gulp> 5 months?

I dont feel like blaming the dev , probably more the management. I' pretty sure giving patchnote we got ect that they changed alot of direction during the dev , making them lose alot of time. I dont know to what level dev can choose over what they dev (probably 0% :p ). So i blame more management that prioritized building around instead of building on top of wonderfull fundation elite got.

The quote from Burr in his Discord is a direct response to a question I asked. :)

It was a question I asked, and Burr has put the response out there. But it still needs further clarification, I can't say more than that.
