Polygon and Twinfinite interviews - more Odyssey details, unknowns, and Walking-In-Ships not at launch

Lol

It usually makes sense to actually expand the strongest suit of a given system precisely to maximise its competitive advantage and differentiating selling point.

Yes, it would make sense to expand the strongest suit by implementing a refined atmospheric flight model, expand on things to find instead of the current stupid minigame, and finally build upon the excellent spaceship experience of the game. Surely you wouldn't add FPS...

Re explo i don’t know about you but i think that new planetary tech looks gorgeous!

As for first person... gimme!

Shame for VR tho... I guess we can’t have it all...

sounds like they have no clue how to implement what they want, and it is nowhere close to being done. Not sure this launches 2021.

It will be like the previous updates. Deliver in a hurry, without much content and variety. And full of new bugs of course.

I want a space Sim more Battlefield than Fortnight. Interiors and see my foot touch the ground. 2022 we can take our helmets off.

Bare minimum, without clouds and weather effects of the surface. I think we can agree that after all these years FDev could have gone way further.
My point was that FDev has done the opposite what you said - instead of building on what made this game special, the ships, the flight and the sights most effort has been sunk into... a thin layer of FPS.

Yeah. Players of other sims want their core gameplay improve, their planes fly more realistic, their cars feel more in depth, and not interested in commuting through the airport or putting their racing overalls on. Space sim fans however, want everything - and will get nothing as this project starts to look like SC.

I disagree, the new planetary tech we saw today actually expands one of Elite s strongest suits and main selling/differentiating points which is (imo) the 1:1 galaxy, science based stellar forge related exploration elements. The fact it has been shown as the first dev diary further reinforces the point.

And they always forget to add the gameplay to the game also. We have a really good 1:1 empty "sandbox" to play take screenshots. Exploration is based on screenshots.

Let's be real here....we're going to turn our head and it'll already be September. This release could be at the very end of Spring 2021, and I still question what we'll truly get at its launch.

How can any company - regardless of how many folks are involved - think that they can finalize and polish multiple experiences that they're still not certain on the functionality of?
this wont be out in 2021...and if it is, it will be bare bones basic.

i really doubt all the planning, coordination and actual execution of DW2 for example was simply “screenshots”. Those are just a nice by product of the actual exploration gameplay.
