Port this game to Linux please.

I was gonna play tonight, but once again "loserdows" decided i would not...update for defender antivirus, taking forever trying to install and now @ 31%.
After that the whole thing may or may not work anymore...and i paid alot for that.
After that i may redoo all my game bindings again, i know there's a solution for that but i found that it's better like i do, i remember all my setting now...freaky i know.
The only 2 reasons i have "stupidows" is this game and another one, noticed that i really hate "winblows" ?

I don't want a PS4 or anything else, just do the right thing plaese Dev's.
O7

It's @ 40% now, the install of this update must be the biggest thing ever...i'm gonna let it do it's thing and just go to sleep...tomorow workday, i really bought the best "looseblows" ever with this win10. Just amazing, what a world we live in.
See you all in a few hours, game on.

Port this game to Linux please.

as much as i love linux, and as much as i expected elite to run on it initially and would love to see that ... now, no, just no. they have enough problems already (disclaimer: isn't gonna happen anyway) ...

you don't need an antivirus to run windows safely, just a bit of caution and internet awareness. actually, antivirus are just parasiting your resources and don't really make you safer failing the former.

(much less for a gaming&trivia windows pc which should hold no sensible information nor have access to any critical assets anyway, and which you can take offline, blank and reinstall as needed).

I never do my updates until I go to bed.

By the sound of it, I guess OP is dual booting, so if he only boots into Windows to play two games, and rarely too as it seems.... so no surprise he he is throwing a fit....

He could try something like this, but I doubt he is elite enough to pull of a setup like this. And now he could take control over the situation and actually make sure his Windows is updated during times he is not planning to play some games without the need to dual boot.

I hate statements like this. It's like saying, "It's okay to use Windows...listen, just because you don't believe in all that closed-source software stuff...and limitations on what your computer can do...and lack of security...and paywall software galore...and even if you can't afford to buy Windows...it's no reason why you shouldn't *totally* build a Windows gaming box!"

Everyone's situation is different, every who uses Linux does so for their own reasons, and you just effectively posted like a Windows fanboi. For someone who loves Linux...you just sold yourself out, bought the T-Shirt from Bill himself and kicked a penguin down a flight of steps.

For shame.

However, you are right, it ain't happening peeps. If OP wants it that bad, they're going to have to actively support and work with the devs for WINE and make the game a priority. It can already sorta be done...as long as you're willing to get your arms dirty up to your elbows in WINE tweaks, testing, mods, and potential breaking.

1) i know, but must keep the internet people /dev's aware that it's out there & games can be played with it in a better environment.

2) i know, it will never be safe... so why use one.

3) i just reinstalled 2 weeks ago and i so agree with you.

I didn't notice the pc was updating after it was too late, and sure was not expecting this. I never set a time for updating cause i play @ random hours day & nights. With this one i woke up about 4 am till 6 am, just on time when it moved on till finished. luckely i need only 5h of sleep.

Thanks about that, i knew about the project but didn't know they where that far advanced with it...looks great, but i would need sponsors for these hardware pieces lol.
I don't dual boot, i have 4 pc's because it's easyer to look up things (internet or not) while playing.
I did not start the damn thing up yet, gonna try it now after this post i think. Wish me luck...

I hate statements like this. /QUOTE]

I know, some people like to hear that Earth is a great healty place and that there is nothing wrong with it.
Others like to shout that there are thing that are wrong, so others can be aware...i'm one of these, sorry but not.
If your ok with the fact that Bill is the most wealthy man on the planet, but gives nothing back to the community...and i speak about Linux and others, hardware & software producers ect...then that is your right.
Me i hate people like him, in his place i would help out where i can. If he would do that then we would have been way further advanced then we are already in many ways. And do not foget that without the linux world, win 10 would not even exist, he aquired suse linux goodies that's why.

I give Linux the Bird,, especially when I see winblows..so 1990's

I noticed that now we have no saying in the use of "onedrive" as it automated that everything you do on looseblows now directly is copied to onedrive...mindblowing, that is pure malware. They are selling every bits from you to third parties via onedrive.

You realize my comment was directed towards the person I quoted: Znort. I was actually defending you.

But hey, carry on.

i've read this twice. i have no clue what you're on but it sounds scary. :)

trivia: this is the second time in my life i've been called a 'windows fanboi', and i've been in plenty of os-related discussions, from technical to trivial. the first time was on this forum, i was called that by some frustrated apple user simply because i didn't agree with his viewpoint ... on the needs, prospects and possibilities of maintaining the mac port of elite. wondering ... is this another pattern emering?

nope. i've never been fond of emulations although i do see how they might be convenient at times, or for specific purposes (i.e., vm's in (automated) testing jobs, etc, or even emulating extinct machines to revive abandonware). i think the goal is good but emulation is just the wrong strategy and effort, i'd rather have open standards and direct compatibiliy and as such emulation goes in the opposite direction, so it hurts more than it helps. then i've tested wine specifically several times across its long history and ... tl;dr: no thanks. e.g. screw photoshop, i'll make do with gimp. games? don't waste my time.

linux has its own game 'scene'. at present it is different from others, and that's not inherently bad. i've been playing linux supported games exclusively during several long periods of my life. i do think linux is the best bet for the world as an opperating system but, unfortunately, both the masses and industry (in their satanic feedback loop) seem to disagree. i have come to the conclusion that at present windows is just the best gaming platform there is, which includes some of the games i'm currently interested in, and there is just no way around that, plus why should i try to save the world from doom if they are so eager to jump into it? so, finally, even me, a linux guy, found a use for windows! this might come across as a blasphemy to you but i can assure you it has no negative health effects and isn't really an issue at all: you have the choice, use what you want.

I fired off the "like a Windows fanboi" missile strictly for the fact that you turned around and told someone who wants to be able to play something in their preferred operating system that they should, instead, utilize another operating system which has none of the features they want, save for the ability to play a game they wish to play on another OS.

Soooo...I dunno man, perhaps stop sounding like a Windows fanboi and the accusations will cease? Just a thought.

But as I said, it's not really something they're going to do, which is pretty sad. They have it ported to Mac. Mac is BSD. BSD isn't Linux, but they're kissing cousins. However, they've already said, "Hey, we have problems making it work on a Mac, so we're giving up." and they'll no longer support it soon. *shrug*

Me personally, I use OSes for what they're good for (as a systems admin, I've found that's a pretty logical way to do things) and I use Windows 10 for my gaming, Linux for my media center, file share and general network. I also seldom go into my 'nix box, except through remote access because...there's really not much need. Windows 10 does what I want it to do, how I want it to do, and when it doesn't, I have enough know-how to make it happen.

But that's no reason for me to start telling others that the best way to achieve their desired goal with their own personal OS is to use the same one I do that works.

Just my .02

1) i know, but must keep the internet people /dev's aware that it's out there & games can be played with it in a better environment.

2) i know, it will never be safe... so why use one.

1. fair enough, i'm not saying it's a lost cause. however, particularly frontier ... i think they have enough on the plate, and it will never meet their particular market expectations.

2. indeed two defense rings are better than one. however antivirus do sell a false sense of security that's even more dangerous than nothing if it induces do drop alertness.
