Possibility to shut down power plant

Hello,

As fas as I know, we only have the ability to reboot the power plant.

Can we have the possibility to shut down the power plant ?

It could be an element of gameplay.

A shutted down ship becomes cool, cool enough to be seen as a space debrit. A risky way to hide and flee from thargoid or pirate.
A shutted down ship continues its route like in flight assist off, with no possibility to maneuver. A risky way to sneak in station while wanted, or smuggle in.

Of course, shut down the power plant shut down the whole ship, meaning no shield, no engine, no weapon, no chaff... and no life support.
The limit of the shutted down time is the oxygen emergency reserves of the life support module.
An other con is the boot time.

What do you think ?

Isn't most of this already accomplished by running silent? Other than the cooling off aspect and the ability to camp out in this manner as long as your life support holds, what's the greater benefit?

I like the idea just from an immersion standpoint, outside of that I don't really seem much call for it.

If you want to try and hide you can power down all modules and you'll be almost undetectable, if that's not enough go silent running and with everything off it'll take a long time before your heat becomes a problem.
Just tested this with my T-9, with everything off the temp dropped to 6% (nice and icy) took about 1 of my 10 minutes of life support to do so. Then went silent, 4 minutes later and still at 6%, it's probably a good bet you'll run out of air before you overheat.

You can effectively do this by shutting down all modules which draw power, as the power plant automatically scales its output to the requirements. In this state, you use no fuel and produce no heat, will drift as you describe because the drives are off, and be on emergency oxygen.

(With synthesis, and an A-rated life support, you could survive about 2.5 days this way)
