Post-Salvation Stuff (The spoiler thread)

The unshootable relics at guardian sites has been a bug for a while, it went mostly unnoticed even during the guardian item collection CGs because most people were either using limpets or scooping directly with their ships and not bothering with relics. But it's definitely not new.

I visited an old research site at HIP 17403 A 4 A and the crashed Thargoid ship near it and didn't find anything new. I'm visiting old sites I've been to before cuz a new Galnet article claims there are new artifacts to be found. I'm not sure if it's the green relics they're referring to, or something entirely new to be found, so I'm just going to Thargoid related places I've been to before to recheck. Maybe I find something new, maybe I don't, but it's something to do. I'll post if I find anything new, for sure.

Commander Kralone referenced in the article was the first player to create an unclassified relic, so yes that is what is being referred to.

So previously, the Merope Sphere (a spherical region centered on Merope in the Pleiades Nebula where Thargoids hang out) had a radius of 150 lightyears. That's consistent with my previous scouting around in the area a few months ago.
However, now that the Proteus Wave disaster happened, today I scouted around the area around the Pleiades and I think the Merope Sphere might've shrunk to a 50 ly radius. Can anyone else confirm this?

Other thread:
I was looking at NHSS, assuming that they had maybe been removed around HIP 22460 after recent events, but actually it looks more like the Merope Shell (the volume around Merope where NHSS will spawn) has been reduced to around 66Ly. This is a large reduction in extent (normally the shell is around 155Ly up to 175Ly - it varies occasionally).

Of no practical use, just thought it may be of interest for Thargoid nerds 🧑‍🔬

(And ofc may not be true, though I did sample quite a few systems :) )

I just noticed that signal sources are slowly returning in HIP 22460. Just had a "Degraded Emissions 0" pop up. The past days while scouting Thargoid behavior in that system I had absolutely nothing besides the persistent POIs

I doubt the Thargoids could so easily parry the Proteus Wave if they hadn't seen it before. One interesting question will be, did they learn to do that recently through Salvation overusing his system-clearing superweapon, or did the Guardians try this too?

Worth noting, if this is an old anti-Guardian defense mechanism - the surface sites we know were never part of the Guardian war so far as we know. The front lines in that conflict seem to have been in the vicinity of Barnard's Loop. This may be a last-ditch fortification that was aimed at defending their core systems from a major Guardian incursion. If so we should assume that other systems with Thargoid surface structures are similarly defended, and possibly now on high alert. Sounds like they're still accessible though.
The jury is out. But my guess would be that we used a base full of technology we don’t fully understand and enhanced it with guardian tech that we do not fully understand. While I don’t know the details, it looked to me like we reverse engineered the Thargoids signal to use against them, and amplified it using guardian Tech and our own. If they were linked in anyway to their own technology they could simply flip the switch. With our own amplification in place the entire thing just kind of backfired on us.

My thoughts from the cut scene onwards :

1. Thargoid weapons still work in HIP 22460.
2. Salvation had had help modifying Guardian weapons.
3. Guardian Relics are power sources.
4. Thargoids adapt technology.
5. Thargoid bases change Guardian power sources.
6. FDEV stated onstream to revisit old places as they have changed in some way.
7. Ram Tah is the key, and to some lesser extent Palin.
8. Leading up to the next phase it will become more obvious what has changed or who might be discovered.
9. Salvation is missing in action.
10. The sound byte from the end of the cut scene contains mechanical sounds at the tail end which can be seen as square waves in slowed down audacity. These could be code, or just chittering of millions of thargoids. Still scary as hell.
11. The Nemesis has not..yet.. been found.
12 Salvation is tall and bald. No beard could be seen.

My last question is about Thargoid hearts as I have no practical experience of them, can they be carried to a thargoid site or guardian machine?

And off topic - in my opinion Onion head is crushed baby thargoids.... sick, but why else are some agricultural sites on dark side of planets. ;)

I suspected. Someone else suggested hitting up the Proteus and seeing if there is anything new there, so I'm heading there too.
I'm at the Proteus wreck in trapezium sector with green relics, have not yet found anything new but I haven't tried much other than dropping green jobbies at promising locations

*edit Tried dropping Unclassified Relics around various spots. Tried feeding one to the Guardian site but that did nothing (and regular relic did nothing either after activating all 6 pylons).
Also tried going to a barnacle site in HIP 16171 and dropping URs when the Thargoid came. It sucked them right up but then dropped them before leaving so I'm now pretty much out of ideas.

Do you have a screenshot of this square wave?

My hypothesis when they tweeted that sound (and still my firm belief as I write this) is that it is of Construct origin. I speculated with some friends that the Proteus wave was never meant to kill disable the Thargoids at all, but it was meant to reach any Constructs that might be left in the far corners of the galaxy. Yes, the Thargoids were momentarily disabled as a reaction to the wave, but then became extremely aggressive after they awoke once the surface site reacted to the extreme amount of Guardian tech. Perhaps the terminal reacted in such a way because the Thargoids had been fearing this day since their war ended, and now they are taking out their aggression on us for trying to reach the Constructs again? After all, we don't know if any of them are left roaming the galaxy after they destroyed the Guardians.

To me the sound file is very mechanical and I think it is that way intentionally. Plus with the discovery of it saying the word "hello", I think this isn't an oversight of a lazy FDev sound engineer, but intentional. That the Constructs have been reached...somewhere...and they are coming back for another war...

Salvation himself said "Our weapons are insufficient. Our defenses are unreliable. I will change everything - with your help. I am Salvation." - July 2nd 3307. He referred to it as an "anti-xeno weapon" in further communications only as a way of gathering our support for it being built. Obviously if he had said he was trying to contact any Constructs left in the galaxy we would have dismissed him and his efforts immediately as insanity, but notice that he never said his goal was to kill the Thargoids, only to "ultimately expel the alien threat from our galaxy." He didn't say how he would expel them, we just assumed this "weapon" was going to do it for us...

I increased the speed by 2x and filtered out some of the noise with Adobe Audition to get a clearer version of the supposed thargoid "hello".

I find the theory that the message comes from the Constructs and not the Thargoids interesting and somewhat coherent. But another theory that occurred to me is that this communication somehow involves Salvation's experiments with neural interfaces for controlling thargoid ships. Maybe they are using Salvation himself as a puppet...

And make no mistake, it may not be a peaceful greeting...

Well the neural interface is what the Guardians were working on when they made the Constructs, so it doesn't surprise me that over the centuries that have passed since then, the Thargoids have also figured out a way to use it. This is probably also why they were capturing the escape pods in HIP 22460. I do think that if it were the Thargoids in this message, it would be something more ominous than "hello". To me it feels like a response to something. To let us know whoever sent it has received our signal.

I have also just heard from a friend that there is an alarm going off at Formidine Rift Gamma site which is supposedly there to detect Thargoids, can anyone confirm this?

Not sure if important. I feel like pirates around (at least those related to missions) drop too many of occupied/damaged escape pods. Like each one drops up-to 10.
