Powerplay Beta 1.3 live, lets test if it improves performance for VR!

In 1.2 had FXAA active in-game and the HUD text quality was quite decent.

Now in Beta 1.3 I achieve similar results with no AA active. As soon as I select FXAA in game, the HUD text becomes a blurry mess.

Well - I finally got down to installing powerplay. Lots of things I like about it. Some great sound touches - like the extra layer when ships accelerate and decelerate etc.

As for the VR experience -

* I liked the wrap around for the main menu and would like to see more of that.
* I found the map easier to use. Once I had targeted a system I could select it to move to much easier.
* The power play menu system was easy enough to get round - although I wasn't quite sure about the map. I guess that will come to me.
* That Imperial Courier is the nuts ... and has a great cockpit like a cross between a gondola & Tron. Loads of power & speed.
* The Diamondback cockpit made me feel like I was sitting in my toolbox.
* Approaching planets - I've seen no freezes or micro stutters.
BUT ...

* Menu text seems worse. Even with OR slider to max - it feels like it's been dropped back 1/3 rd and everything has become more pixellated.
* In game graphics seem to be a touch chunkier than I remember them to be. Am I imagining all this?
* Ships in space whilst in super Tom Cruise = judder still. :S

Now I've played with the new internet space ships ... I guess it's time to test the power play elements.

Do the stars in the galaxy map still shake in Powerplay? That's a major source of nausea for me. The stars and the lines connecting them shake like 1-2 px back and forth in the Galaxy map (but the text next to the stars that indicates the cluster or constellation name doesn't)

Yesterday's patch fixed the Rift issues from 1.3 for me. The performance is stellar! With a 980 I'm now running all settings on max with MSAA. No DSR but everything else to max. No stutter seen at all.

I seem to be getting 1.2 level visuals except for HUD graphics which seem to be lower res and hard to read. However, I'm sure the Ocukus quality slider is completely reversed, with best quality now being all the way to the left.

Slider to the left = crappy visuals for me.

But.........

For whatever reason, tonight, ED has never looked so good in DK2. No CA, at all. Crisp clear text. Everything looks great. IDK why but, I'm not complaining.

Are you high? PP didn't change a thing for the RIFT, it's still the SAME as usual. Text is "ok" but that's it. It's readable but can still cause major eyes strain. Text isn't bigger either, it's the same size so how can it be "crystal clear" now? Espcially with the current DK2 hardware? Did you magically get a CV1? lol...

Sometimes, yes.

Crystal clear inasmuch as it can be on a DK2. I can read the text in ED on the DK2 and always could, up until 1.3. So, I was very pleasantly surprised, after upgrading to 1.3.4, to see the best ED has looked so far, IMO. YMMV.

Well I'm glad it's better for you. I tried it late last night and it's still way off the clarity I get on 1.2

1.3.4 changed nothing for me too.
1080p SSx1.5 on 1.2 is still superior to the same settings on 1.3.4
1080p SSx1.5 on 1.2 is still superior to 2715*1527 SSx1.5 and lumasharp on 1.3.4

I did notice today that the GraphicsConfiguration.xml in the beta has some new parameters under planets and galaxybackground etc - '<TexturePoolBudget>'
I maxed these and also messed with my SweetFX settings, and things have improved vastly from this morning for me. It's looking pretty much like 1.2 for me now, except the SS still seems broken so I'm having to use the DSR.

Please note: 'Messed' being the operative word as I haven't got a clue what I'm doing with SweetFX really, just tried to raise a few values that looked like they would help and I'm sure perhaps if someone who knew what they were doing spent a bit of time with it, it could really improve things. Try increasing those <TexturePoolBudget> figures, I put mine all at 100.

It's something to do with that new shader, the graphics are way worse than the normal game, I so want to test the beta but simply can't without seeing what I'm doing!

I think that new preparing shaders thing is just to do with the planets, to remove stutter. You can turn it off in the AppConfig file in the beta directory - ShaderWarmingEnabled="0"
