Yes that is correct, but we shouldn't have to complete them to rank up. If we have the merits we should gain rank.If I got it right, then you only need to do it once, not every week. I guess these tasks might also be changing each week - if that's correct, then just play as you have fun, then complete them in a week when they look ok for you?

I've been getting merits and ranking up without finishing my weekly tasks yet.
I have well over 2000 merits and have not ranked up at all. I've seen people complaining about not ranking up only to find out they have to complete the weekly tasks.
Same here, stopped getting merits at a certain point. Also not seeing any power SS after visiting nav beacons. Assumed PP had reached a state of dysfunction that devs temporarily disabled it.
Not had the issue. Since Thursday have gone from rank 3 to 5 with only 4 of my 5 tasks for the week completed.
That's probably because you've done the weekly tasks before.
Well you didn't mention that before but I swear I didn't need to do them all first last week. Oh well, maybe I did, it was a busy week.
Hardly onerous though. Spent more time unlocking one engineer.

If you click on it, does it specify what kind of cargo? Do e.g. wreckage components and black boxes count? If so, you can find them easily in Power Wreckage POIs, just like escape pods.Does anyone know how to complete this top type of Weekly Assignment ....

The 30.32 LY is probably the issue, spheres of influence max at 30 LY as per their twitch stream dump dive.

There's lots of conversations being had regards nonsensical weekly missions and the usual lack of polish (or beta testing) to an update. My stuck one is https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/68551 but thankfully I also managed a 5/5 last cycle to progress PPv2.0 rank.
Unlucky for those needing a 5/5 full set to at least start their power ranking, but I'm gonna stop wasting life guessing whether missions are doable or not until FDEV give us the timing of their PPv2.1 patch and/or its UI refresh.

It's getting more and more confusing tbh, it seems the system my power is quite obviously trying to acquire is not an acquisition system AND at 30.32 Lys it's too far away anyway. Awesome.
I've had a similar bug with them. One 'batch' was bugged; not only no merits but couldn't offload them on the FC either. Btw, you can see the range of systems. When you click on a system in the galmap you get the powerplay information screen (like the one you posted above, with the current state of it). At the bottom are three buttons, the left one (the globe) shows you the range on the galmap of the selected system via a sphere.
And yes, it is all absurdly poorly documented. Key terms are not explained, other terms are used inconsistently, and the UI is non-intuitive.

Aquisition systems are systems currently not held by another power that you are trying to expand into; so either expansion or unoccupied. If another power is there it will be an undermining system, and it will be their exploited/fortified/stronghold system. So:Thank you for the info

exploited/fortified/stronghold (held by your power) = reinforcing
unoccupied/expansion = acquisition
That's the same one my OCD is going crazy about. I have tried completing that mission in many ways... starports, ground ports, my power systems of all 4 types, their system powers to my power contact and to their salvage person... every combination I could think of, nothing worked.Does anyone know how to complete this top type of Weekly Assignment ....

Anyways, nothing has made the progress bar go up nor complete upon turn-in at all yet. I've tried collecting in 'Brokpa' zones ( Power Wreckage and Degraded Emissions, etc. ) all 3 types of listed cargo using limpets, as well as manually with my ship one-by-one flying into using cargo-scoop method. I'm honestly stumped. Any help from the community or from 'FDev' would be most appreciated.

Oh, that might be an unlucky combination. I think the "counts once scooped up" is bugged anyway and only counts when handed in. That's easy if it has to be done in the same system, but yours is about undermining Aisling it seems. I guess you could try the closest fortified sytem, or maybe it's just bugged and can't be done.Sorry i should've been more clear in my earlier post ... i tried ALL appropriate type systems within 20 Lys of 'Brokpa' and nothing worked.
Very very disappointing when basics of video games simply fail to function properly.

Please make sure all weekly missions tasks are added to the 'what you can do in this system' as rares should be shown if it is in a mission. I know only the things you get for a power are shown but this is important for new players joining a new power. Don't make life more difficult for new players,

Also just wanted to point out for anyone looking to datalink scan "megaships" … you can't. Megaships are the things with landing pads (at least the four I went to were, and no, I don’t mean fleet carriers). The things you can datalink scan are called bulk carriers. Inara knows this, it's a shame Frontier don’t seem to.
