Pre-alpha and alpha planet generation vs release (now). On how we were misled.

The tiling issue can be fixed. All it needs is more tiles, more noise and more resizing/rotation so it's not noticeable.

Surface generation is done entirely on the GPU and is limited to what you can do with shaders. Same with the tiles. They are fixed textures uploaded to the GPU, then used by by the shaders which places them randomly on a sphere. Adding more tiles means you need more GPU memory to fit them all. It won't be fixed.

I wouldn‘t say they are random, also I think the tile issue will be fixed - they just need to be cleverer and use the correct amount of tiles. The correct tiles but not necessarily in the right order.
 
Just saw previews of the next planet coming in SC. I have a "déjà vu" feeling.
