Prehistoric Plants to feed Herbivores

Hey :)
The following idea came to my mind:
It would be nice to have prehistoric plants in JWE. We could also research on them, get fossiles and extract DNA and then grow the plants in special facilities. The plants can then be planted in the enclosures to feed the herbivores.

  • Expeditions to get plant fossiles
  • Research to extract plant DNA
  • Breeding and growing of plants in special Flora facilities
  • Planting the prehistoric plants in the dinos enclosures to feed the herbivores
  • Feeding Herbvores with the plants: not all plants are eaten by all herbivores, some are only eaten by one species of dinos, others are poisonous etc
  • Maintaining the flora: planting, cutting, watering, weeding, putting fertilizers
  • No need to feed herbivores on the normal feedingstations

Well, if the leak rumors are true, you'll be happy come July when the Claire Dearing DLC is released.

I think that's a good idea! :)

Now that we're getting individual plant placement, this is looking a bit more likely for some point in the future.
I doubt that everything would be considered (plant maintenance and herbivore preferences are the main two that I feel wouldn't be on the table), but the core idea certainly would be.

Also I wouldn't hold too much hope regarding the "leak", considering the palaeobotany mentioned is purely for the feeders, essentially being another leaf type that saves money.

I already thought of that too and, just to add another gameplay feature for the system: since every herbivore would have it's own likes/dislikes in paleo plant taste, also make them act as "lures", somewhat as the ones in JPOG, so if, say, trikes like ferns, planting a certain area with ferns will have the trike herds gravitating towards that precise area. That might be expensive (researching and planting more or less wide areas, and likely replenishing/gardening them periodically based on the extension of the area and the number of herbivore specimens feeding on them) but would also be a lot of fun adding this further layer of animal control/care.

Yeah! Looks like the developpers had the same ideas! :)
"Dinosaurs aren't the only addition though. Now, there are brand new Paleobotany mechanics that allow you to research and grow new plants using the new Greenhouse building. You'll be able to serve your dinosaurs their favourite meals to increase their lifespan and prestige while making them feel more at home in the environment. "
I am looking forward to the new DLC "Claire's sanctuary"!

The new DLC is out! And i like it a lot, so many of my ideas are implemented, one could think i knew about the DLC but i didn't, i had this idea completely independent. :)

I finished the Claire Mission finally, i like it, and i was amazed, how many of my ideas i had without knowing anything of that DLC at the moment i posted them in this forum, were implemented already. But they did not implement the discovery, excavation and research of plant fossiles, just like we have to excavate and analyse the dino-fossiles. That would be nice thing to add. :)
