That's not what the quote says, it says the discount will be available from the 21st.

Michael

There is no way to upgrade without the discount. Hence we cannot upgrade for another week.

Yes we could purchase a Standard Beta copy of the game to go with our existing Game Only kickstarter, but that's not upgrading. That is purchasing a second copy. It will cost us the full cost of a beta copy and at the end of the day we will have 2 copies of the game.

The cynic in me shys away from this thread . Ill wait until the 21st with a chuckle amd a gentle smile towards comercialism, which is the ruler of all things.

The game needs money and so be it. If this brings in a few hundred quid more from the impatient then good for FD.

Considering I was not going to even look a pre testing and paying for it, as I think its a nod towards exploitation tbh , fanboys howl in indignation lol. If I have to wait another week while FD squeeze another few bob out of the potential custumer base to fund the game fair enough. They will be squeezing another 15 quid out of me on the 21st so alls fair in love and developing.

100 quid is a good deal really if you consider 35 quid for the released game 35 quid for the expansion thing that leaves 30 quid (checks fingers) for the premium beta. I may have even done that myself If I hadnt already got the game and the expansion pack. So maybe it shouldnt be a suprise that a few will buy the pack if they are new to the game and not backers even at this late stage. Maybe it is a kick in the nadgers to some of us backers though as I was actually looking forward to having a look at the progress so far but so be it.

Its a shame , I was looking fwd to having the chance to set up my controllers and joining my mates already "testing" the game, but hey ho its sunny outside , the sea has given up some of its glorious bounty and claimed two savage lures so Im happy either way. Better get the kayaks out again and nail a few more bass for tea.

The delay in standard beta upgrades is disappointing and frustrating but I can only direct that at myself. I chose to back ED in kick starter at a level that did not include beta access.

Frontier have offered a way for me to access beta for £75 more and get all the future expansions but given my experience with SC I am reluctant to spend that money. I could spend £50 and get a second copy of the game and beta access which is tempting as I am sure I could find ways to use or give away the second account.

If I wait until Monday I may be offered £15 to upgrade to beta access and that would be great. I will, in the future, be offered expansions to the game when they are ready at a price unknown but if the game is even half as good as I expect it to be I shall have no problem paying for those either.

Just remember you could have backed SC for considerably more and currently have no access to ships you pledged for, a beta of hanger to walk around in and a 1km diameter space simulation.

You can still get the expansion pack for £35 for a couple of week more. I would get that and wait for the upgrade discount rather than spend £50 on beta 2nd copy and no expansion pass.

I already have.
I first bought game for £35
then Pid £35 for upgrade when I could afford it.
after paying£70
I Have been waiting to pay extra £15 to get beta.
but they wont take my money.
while any tom or harry can come up pay £50 and start playing.

There has been no officel notices we only get to know what is happening if we email to find out. and have been lied to twice. First on 27th June news letter 29 said we could upgrade. when that did not happen I was told 15th July.
I will probably give up waiting for beta upgrade to avoid the irritation and just wait till Gama arrives.

Yes I must admit that by the time the upgrade comes around I will probably be interested in something else and forget all about Elite Dangerous for another few months.

I will probably wait now to see if the Beta is worth paying another £15 for before I upgrade. I have got games vying for my attention that I bought in the Steam summer sale that I haven't played properly yet. And I must get back to starting the Euro Cup as England in FM2014, which will hopefully go better than my World Cup game where I was beaten by Germany in the semi finals. I also have an American Civil War pending, plus a few pesky Alien Earth visitors to get rid of. So gaming time is in short supply at the mo.

I don't for a second think Frontier have lied to us. I suspect that the change in upgrade date is an oversight. Someone decided to extend the Premium Beta at the last minute without realising the full implications (a common issue with last minute changes which haven't been fully thought through).

I am however very disappointed that when the oversight came to light they didn't follow up with some Comms. The biggest issue here is a failure to actually communicate with their customers - or even to acknowledge the issue.

Full implications about what? Offering upgrade to normal beta is not something FD exactly is obliged to provide. It is smart decision, sure, but when it comes, it comes.

I must admit I am sometimes bewildered by some of the things Frontier do. Starting from the terrible Kickstarter they improved dramatically with the quality of the game they are supplying but they still try and pull things like this, delaying dates for no plausable reason. Its like they are trying to wring as much money out of the situation as possible and yet the game is now standing on its own merits - they really dont need to resort to cheap tactics. And surely by now they must have all the money they need? Puts me off a bit seeing this stuff, I wish they would stop and just act sensibly, stick to their dates etc. Does them a disservice. Sure its the marketing peoples fault, David really shouldnt be listening to them.

No one said anything about 'obligations'. What I believe Whirlmeister means by 'full implications' is that the decision to extend the duration of Premium Beta sales means delaying the upgrade opportunity for potentially 16769 Kickstarter backers who pledged at one of the tiers granting them the finished game.

Now, I'm sure that some of those KS backers will already have paid to upgrade to Premium Beta. It's also likely some aren't interested in beta at all and will be waiting for Gamma anyway.

But the point (as in the point that Terryfried, Whirlmeister and others are making) is one of a lack of communication that has undoubtedly left a bitter taste in the mouths of some of those who were there at the outset of the Kickstarter, backing Frontier, and who now feel like they've been taken for granted, ignored, or overlooked.

Well News letter 32 out today. and extension of available premier Beta mentioned.

But while I did not expect an Apology there was still no mention of the delays to previous backers wanting Beta upgrade. In fact after 2 previous dates canceled There was no official announcement of a new date at all.

also as people can buy beta who haven't upgraded I see no reason we cant upgrade unless they can not set the system up to allow upgrades to either beta or premium beta. and that would amaze me. as every online shop in the world can manage more than one discount at a time.

The likely reason for delay is:

£35 Pre-order game
£35 Life time expansion
£15 top up to standard beta (Access 29th July training now)

Total £85

Premium Beta access has

Game access
Life time expansion
Immediate beta access

Total £100

So they are maintaining the value of the Premium Beta buy another week. #edit# no pun intended ...

Delaying for 6 [censored] days! :) Seriously, we are going all over this again? Want to save on upgrade - wait for six days. It is easy, it's summer out there :)

And that's cool. Upgrade or no upgrade, this is nowhere finished game yet.

Lack of communication? FD have stated multiple times that upgrade will come when premium beta upgrade finishes. What else did you need? Promise they can do it faster? Come on! In what way FD ignored beta testers?

Not to stir anything up, more to clear it up, because I am confused now -- does the new front page offer standard beta to new buyers? If so, how can present owners of the game not be allowed to upgrade? That makes no sense to me. :S

Or has this changed again? Can existing owners upgrade now? :S

Please note that I helped my spouse upgrade their copy, so it is bewildering for me to hear people are denied this upgrade now. I almost feel bad, having gotten something they cannot, despite starting in the same place. :(
