News Premium Beta access update

I cant see how it is. We all know ( those in Alpha ) how some of the launches have has a few "issues" and weve not managed to get as much time as we wanted initially, but its alpha.

Call our 2 weeks - 2hours of "premium beta" Alpha 5 and everyone is happy.

Does not seem a big issue to me but the i did put my hands in mu pocket and paid the money for Alpha.

It is not such a big problem as Michael clarified it will be just a blocker's test (2 weeks are way too long for that) - which makes complete sense. FD are usually very coordinated with their message, so something got lost in communication between PR and Michael/David.

It is all a matter of semantics.

The politics of Elite: Dangerous operate even when the universe simulation is not online. :)

Do pigs fly too?

Some of the statements on these forums amaze me. You would think we were in primary school.
Thanks for the insult.

Is vanity more important than the roll out decisions by the developers? I am pretty sure that the developers are not trying to spite people.
Not sure where vanity comes into it, and I agree it's probably nothing to do with the devs.

Yes the Alpha came out on time in regards to the proposed date of December.

Yes the Beta was delayed in regards to the proposed date of February. Do you know why? It wasn't ready. Is that an acceptable reason?
Estimated Beta date was January. Not being ready is an acceptable reason, and 'beta comes after alpha' was in fact in my sig for quite a while, until very recently.

How many of us really and truly want the best gaming experience possible as opposed to how many of us want to serve our vanity?

I like to joke around here and there but some of this entitlement mentality really irks me.
The vanity thing again? Entitlement: Was OK waiting for beta, but this is different. Beta *will* be ready, but won't be given to Beta people for two weeks or so. I'm not sure what the problem in seeing this is. People paid for 'premium' and 'standard' beta access. They will get it (>5 months late), after being made to stand outside in the rain for two weeks (remarkably, no longer 'a matter of hours', I must be clairvoyent) while the build they should have access to is in full swing with another group.

When people perceive they have been wronged simply due to the fluidity of developer decisions regarding their testing process. If the devs want to stagger Premium Beta access through an Alpha backer filter for testing what is honestly the problem with that? I'll tell you what the problem is, jealousy, vanity and a sense of self entitlement. That is the problem with all the fluff removed.
Haven't got a jealous bone in my body. There's really no need to imbue people you merely disagree with, with pejorative negative traits.

Grow up folks. I also hope I am allowed to speak my mind here without having to be too politically correct, God forbid if someone's feelings get hurt.
Fully adult thanks. My feelings remain resolutely robust.

Will beta builds be beta tested alongside these two-week alpha tests, or will beta testing be on hold while new builds are being alpha tested?

I completely agree with you.

You paid for alpha, it was delivered on time, and you will have had it for six months by the time beta properly arrives.

Why is it not fair that people who paid (personally, I've spent £240 total on E: D) for beta get access to beta when beta is ready?

Is that not a double standard? Can't see why some in alpha seem to want to 'pull the ladder up' after them.

I must admit to being a little confused between the "few hours" and "two weeks" statements.

I wonder, and it is no more than wonder, if the mid-May release will be with the alphas for two weeks. In that time it may, or may not have a few updates and changes applied. Then on or around 30 May it is released to the wider beta audience.
If that is fairly feature complete then subsequent updates should be incremental, and we may be in a position where they are passed to alphas for a couple of hours before being passed to the beta people.

That's the only way I can square the two positions, other than one being an error.

Hi Mark

Thank you for responding but that doesn't really answer my question.

If the Premium Beta alpha exclusivity period is purely a check of the beta builds to ensure they are OK for Premium beta backers and that according to previous posts from Michael that this is hoped to be only a few hours why does the announcement state that Alpha backers will get the Premium Beta builds 2 weeks early?
Is this a mistake and Alpha backer do not get access to the Beta builds two weeks early and instead get first access to the Beta builds on the 30th of May with Premium beta backers getting access hopefully a few hours later when it is confirmed to be OK?
I and other backers (as you can see from other posts) would like this clarified if possible as they appear to be conflicting statements (Statement A - The alpha exclusivity period will last 2 weeks or Statement B -The alpha exclusivity period will only last as long as it takes to ensure the build is stable which hoped to be only a matter of hours)

Many thanks.

Hi again, to clarify we are aiming for 2 weeks for Premium Beta as stated on the initial post. Sorry for any mis-understanding.

I find these discussions about what each of us have paid rather disheartening to be honest. I pledged for the game to be made. I was (and still am) mostly interested in final game, and I upgrade to expansions only after some time. Only after upgrade I discovered that it included normal beta access.

As for alpha delay for beta tests I hope Michael will clarify this, he's usually being correct with his claims. As alpha tester I really don't see need for 2 week window. 24 hours would be max reasonable to clear beta build status.

No they didn't. They made a donation to a Kickstarter project. Alpha and beta access were perks.
I backed after the initial kickstarter, so sorry - this is incorrect. (And to be honest, with all due respect, it's a bit of a semantic can of worms that really is tangential to the real argument.)

I had to download and run a second time but it no longer complains about version number. Logged in and it's compiling a hardware report. :) Exciting times.

Yeah, me too. I pledged that money in the full knowledge that I might be flushing it down the toilet. If the game gets made at all, I'll consider it a result. I'd like to see it sooner rather than later, but I don't consider myself entitled to delivery by a certain date.

Those people who paid for beta access will get beta access with the beta is ready. The beta will be ready once it has been run past the alpha backers.

As an alphan, I would be disappointed if Frontier held the build back if there are no showstopping bugs. I hope this is just a miscommunication, because I (and I suspect most alphans) are looking forward to the betans getting in the game.
