Prices for extras

I would have liked to get an Elite model but I only Collect Die Cast Metal Ships.

my favorite is the die cast 12" model of the eagle

I have almost all of those except they are boxed as well. :) I have all the variants of Dinky Eagles too.... boxed :)

As for the OP yes they are expensive but they will be specialised limited edition one offs and they will be of amazing quality I am sure. Hopefully there might be some photos down the road to help people decide. :) We all pledge and buy what we can because every single £ helped MAKE Elite Dangerous and NO ONE can take that fact away from ANY contributor :)

Hi OSH,

If you were to buy a model from a store then you're right, these prices are high. However the point in the models is not as a purchasable item, they are a reward that we're providing to people that have pledged towards the development of the game. This is an important distinction to make.

The whole point of the Kickstarter and the following web app is to raise money so we can develop Elite, the rewards are our way or showing gratitude for your support. It would hardly be worth us providing these rewards if the majority of the original pledge went into producing them.

Hi Ashley,

I have a bit of an issue with your comment here...

First things first lets get this out the way, i am a massive elite fan, i support what FD are doing wholey. I in my opinion pledged a considerable amount of money to FD to get the game made, and in return i will get the said rewards for my chosen pledge level. Fair enough.

I do object though to you suggesting that these models are "rewards", if they were rewards you would have given one to each of the pledgers...

Far from rewards these models are a way for FD to make money from playing on peoples passion and commitment to the game. Again, fair enough... But be honest about it.

Finally no one has asked for them to be given free thus taking up part of the pledge fund... I think the majority of people would just like them to be reasonably priced.

Perhaps that may take away the "Exclusive" part of it. However if thats how you guys feel, then why not have just pitched the only pledge option as circa £1000.00 Allowing only "Exclusive" players to own the game.

I think we all know the answer.

Lastly i know this seems like a rant.. perhaps it is..... However I fully support FD in making money for further development in any way they can. Lets just be honest about it.

Strangely enough, my very first reaction on reading Ashley's post when he made it was that it was good to see FD being honest about these things. Many KS stretch goals/bonuses are just fluff to pull the suckers in and pad the income without a significant compensating cost, but most KS campaigns do not admit this.

I still have the boxes for them all but I dont collect them to keep them in boxes just incase they are worth something in the future I collect them because I like them and want to show them. ;)

Your post was a rant - all the other pledge tiers say "plus all the rewards above" - Perhaps it's just terminology - all the other KS campaigns also use that word too.

<shrug>

FWIW I bought one despite the price - I knew my money was being used to invest in the production of Elite and that the real price of the model would be far less.

You do not understand the purpose of KS as this kind of thing came up a lot during the campaign with people complaining about the prices being too high for the game .. you are not buying anything, you're investing in the production of Elite .. The reward you get for doing so is incidental. Had they said "We need your money and you get nothing in return and you have to buy the game post production" I still would have pledged towards it.

Well for a limited edition model ( i presume the run will only be the amount of people that have brought it) its not bad, you know the price and what you get, its up to you to buy it if you want.

On a side note, i had one of the eagles, not sure if i still have it but remember the red exhaust funnels coming off, also had one of the liberators :). Happy times.

Thats more than a little condescending...

I know exactly how KS works... i too would have contributed should there have been no rewards whatsoever... infact the amount i contributed was irrespective of the reward but simply what i could contribute... and at a time when there was still no guarantee that the game was going to be made.

As you have said perhaps its just a breakdown in terminology, but my objection was that in the post i originally quoted it was suggested that allowing us to "buy" the models was a reward....

Im not so sure someone giving me the option to buy something is a reward.......

like i said no problems from my end.. i just wanted to air my thoughts....

I imagine that after the launch of Elite Dangerous and FD has a sold their first million copies, those models/mugs /T-Shirts that have daft prices will be available to all of us at a much more realistic price. It just makes marketing sence.
