I'm a little late to the party, but still wanted to say that video was amazing. Watched it once through and then put it immediately on repeat. I haven't played computer games for a while, but have to say the graphics shown are already way beyond what I was hoping for. If the rest of the game follows this high standard then we're in for a treat.

There was one part in the video where they showed the pilot swinging into his seat from somewhere behind. The motion looked really good - fluid and natural. I was a bit sceptical of the "walk around your ship" plans, but maybe it's time for me to change my opinion on that!

I'm very late to the party as well. I just found out about this game a few days ago. HOW COULD I NOT HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THIS?

Steam - that is why. A lot of us long timers have congregated over at Steam and it seems that as far as our universe is concerned there are no other games out there outside of steam other than EA and Blizzard games which I couldn't care less about anyway.

So I had no clue about this.

It took the X-Rebirth debacle for me to look for alternatives...

I'm extremely excited for this.

Watched all the dev logs last night. Everything is being done RIGHT.

Can someone help me understand what exactly he is stating about future videos on other aspects like trading. .. something about polish. .. my English :-(
The UK Armed Forces teach you to use spit and polish in order to get a really good shine on your boots. Literally spit and then a dab of shoe shine polish. So in the context of the video, it means they have lots of awkward bits and pieces they need to make presentable before a video can be made.

Welcome to the forum Colonel Kenney! - Have a look at the unofficial FAQ and the design discussion archives as well as they are a mine of useful information. (both are links in my sig).

I might Pledge 100euros after watching this video, before i was afraid and was planing to see how things go when the game release but now i got more hope.

Having looked closely at the new holographic dashboard, there seems to be two long, thin strips either side of the radar. I wonder if these could be hidden MFD's that rise up when required.

Now do we tell him about that other space game? <Sucks teeth...>

Welcome to the forums.

No I know all about SC. I'm just not as interested. I mean I loved the Wing Commanders of course the others. I've seen the development of it and I think its going in the same direction his previous games have gone with a formula of a lot of dialog and story and less sandbox. I'm looking for a universe to explore with infinite possibility. Not to mention David is the "Papa Bear" of space sim's so if anyone knows how to do it right, he does. So I'm putting my backing behind this.

When SC comes out I'll definitely buy it but I won't be backing it. I dropped over $125 USD on this one. I'll see if I can up it a little more before the 6th.

We need more up front developers like this who will directly answer questions and even say "NO we will not have that feature and here is why" and stick to their original plan. The "kitchen sink" I believe he called it. All the philosophies and core formula are in place for this to be a long standing game that can be added on to in the future as time goes by.

For a moment I thought I was reading something I had written cause this is also my story :)

Welcome aboard!

Here's the SC HUD prototype from the recent vid.

Have to say its very busy and maybe dedliberately old school (in the vid it can be seen to 'retract' somewhat). Much prefer the Elite holo!

One thing thats interesting though. SC have chosen to place the HUD on your helmet, not in the cockpit, so crucially it follows your head movement around. This might need to be an option too in ED?
I agree with you, that we should be able to keep seeing all the crucial information at a glance while turning our head as even current day fighters have HMD's like that.

Also I hope that the excessive head bobbing can be toned down especially when rolling and pitching.

If support for TrackIR comes along, I might well have to invest in one of those.

I'm not sure if I like the OR. The resolution doesn't come close to HD at the moment (though hopefully that will change).

Plus it looks difficult to see the keyboard with the Occulus Rift. I really hope we get TrackIR support, I think it should be mandatory since this is a space sim.

Well the consumer OR is going to be at least 1080, and the early demo units are said to be a big improvement over the current dev kits.

They could of course stick a much higher res panel in there, but there's no point until a large percentage of punters generally have much more powerful graphics rendering hardware. Future ORs will almost certainly be much higher res.

Also looking at the OR recruiting part of their site is quite interesting. They're evidently looking at external cameras and eye tracking too.

Could you give some reference about this? While I have no money and means to buy OR right now, I would like to in future, so I want to hear what people say about upcoming consumer version.

They have said they want to do 4k/60 fps in the future, which is nice milestone to have. They are clever guys and I frankly geek out hearing about such devices these days, because there's relatively cheap parts to do that, so innovation can move forward in this field finally.

this is OR's site Click here

at the moment they have neither the dev kit or a customer version available :( , i have the money but was not in time before they sold all of their dev kits. them ED backers have a lot of answering to do :p
