Free speech refers to a right between you and the government, not a private company. If it weren't so, then forum moderation would probably barely exist.

It is proposals like yours that lead to inappropriate and extreme forms of censorship.
Ganking and griefing are not explicitly well defined terms - there is an element of subjectivity in their assessment and they are anything but overused IMO. You or I may not agree with all the uses of these terms but that is moot. If someone initiates PvP with an unwilling target then they are legitimately open to being accused of griefing/ganking - playing in Open is not the same as explicit consent to all forms of PvP.
As for carebear and coward terms - these are clearly intended to be insulting and usage of these terms is tantamount to flaming/trolling IMO but that is up to the moderators to deal with such incidents.
Frontier isn't obliged to follow Steam's lead.
I'm with Kari and the others. We don't need FF to moderate that speech. Not only is it useful to the clued in but I'm confident we can deal with it maturely all on our own.
Sure, that means repeating ourselves a lot but such is the price of a good forum.

Forum moderation is not a legitimate vehicle for the kind of censorship you are pushing for though - there is no good reason to impose it at a unilateral level like you seem to wish it to be. If this is because you have personally been falsely accused (IYO) then that is a matter to be dealt with by the moderators on a case by case basis.
I am confused then. Are you saying Steam moderates that speech and Frontier should too or that Steam doesn't do it and Frontier should?

How about going for consistency in the other direction and go over to Steam to lobby that they stop censoring? Liberty is far easier to give away than it is to regain. We already censor far too much speach in western society these days for the sake of political correctness...let's not continue that trend into gaming terms too, for god's sake.

The moderators of Elite Dangerous Steam forums are unpaid employees (for lack of a better term) of Frontier. Steam support claims they (Frontier's Steam moderators, not Steam itself) can use their own guidelines when moderating (seems wrong to me but whatever). If you have an issue with moderation action on Steam's Elite Dangerous forums, you are told to contact Frontier support.
So yes, consistency. Why not? I'd prefer no "censoring" of the terms myself, but if it is going to happen in one place, then why not here too as they are the same people?
And thank you to those of you engaging honestly with this vs trolling, flaming, attempts of humiliation, and those of you using the opportunity to take cheap shots. You've helped me to clarify the issue.
